The present invention is to provide a free-cutting steel capable of suppressing production of coarse inclusions, and having a high fatigue strength and a desirable machinability. An aluminum alloy brazing sheet has a quad-layer structure made of an outer filler material, intermediate layer material, core material, and inner filler material. A method of stress inducing transformation from the austenite phase to the martensite phase by conducting cold working on material of austenite stainless steel in the temperature range from the point Ms to the point Md. The above cold working is a biaxial tensing. An intermediately formed hollow body is made, which includes a ferromagnetic portion and a non-magnetic portion contracting inward. Then, the intermediately formed body is subjected to a stress removing process in which residual tensile stress is removed from an intermediately formed body. In the stress removing process, it is preferable that a punch is press-fitted into the intermediately formed body so as to expand a non-magnetic portion and then the intermediately formed body is drawn with ironing while the punch is inserted so that the residual tensile stress can be changed into the residual compressive stress in the non-magnetic portion.

A composite magnetic member made of a single material of martensitic stainless steel including Ni having two sections of a ferromagnetic section having maximum permeability not less than 200 and coercive force not more than 2000 A/m and a feebly magnetized section having permeability not more than 2 and MS temperature not more than -30.degree. C. A process for producing a composite magnetic member, comprising the steps of locally heating a single material of martensitic stainless steel having particular composition including Ni and having ferrite and carbide, at temperature of more than austenite transformation temperature, and rapidly quenching it so that austenite structure is formed in the heated and quenched section which structure has MS temperature not more than -30.degree. C.

An alternating current generator for vehicle has a permanent magnet in the rotary field core unit. Providing such magnet is effective to reduce leakage magnetic flux and the size of the machine. In order to magnetize the magnet without trouble caused by machined chips or iron powder, the magnet is magnetized after the rotary field core has been machined. While the magnet is magnetized in a short period by a pulse current, the field coil is short-circuited. The field coil is subjected to magnetizing flux passing therethrough and generates short-circuit current and, consequently, counter magnetomotive force, which prevents leakage of the magnetizing flux.
