A printing apparatus includes: a printing unit configured to perform printing on a sheet; a driving unit configured to apply a rotational force to a roll member that is rotatably held; and a pressing unit having a roller configured to apply a pressing force to an outer peripheral surface of a roll sheet wound around the roll member, wherein the pressing unit changes the pressing force during a sequence in which the driving unit applies a rotational force to the roll member and a sheet that has passed through the printing unit is wound.

There is provided a printing apparatus having a supply function and a winding function, in which a sheet is guided to a desirable position. To achieve this, the apparatus includes: a supply unit configured to hold a plurality of rolls of a wound continuous sheet; a printing unit configured to print an image on a sheet drawn from one of the rolls held by the supply unit; a storage unit configured to store a sheet printed in the printing unit; and a guiding unit configured to guide a sheet discharged from the printing unit to the storage unit, wherein the guiding unit is capable of switching between guiding the sheet discharged from the printing unit to the storage unit and guiding the sheet discharged from the printing unit to the supply unit so that the sheet is wound.

In a communication network, a source frame relay unit responds to a signaling message from a source terminal by determining whether a communication link has a bandwidth sufficient to transmit a sound signal at a predetermined speed in a frame relay format, and forwards the message toward a destination frame relay unit to establish a connection if the link has a bandwidth sufficient to transmit the sound signal, or returns a busy tone otherwise. Responsive to a preamble tone signal from a destination terminal, the destination frame relay unit determines whether the link has a remaining bandwidth that can support the difference between the predetermined speed of the sound signal and a speed requested by the preamble tone signal to transmit facsimile signals in the frame-relay format. If so, the source and destination terminals are allowed to exchange facsimile signals at the requested speed. Otherwise, the terminals are controlled to exchange facsimile signals at a speed lower than the requested speed.

Frame relay communication method and network for fixed-bandwidth telephone signals and alterable-bandwidth facsimile signals

In an inter-PBX routing apparatus, calls from channels of different service categories to a destination are normally carried by a first route. A controller determines the available bandwidth remaining in the first route, classifies the channels as a first or a second category if they cannot or can tolerate delays when establishing an alternate route, respectively, or a third category if they do not require the second route when the first route is overflowed. A second route is established on a pre-assigned basis when the bandwidth of at least one idle channel of the first category is greater than the available bandwidth and on a demand-assigned basis in response to a request from a channel of the second category having a bandwidth greater than the available bandwidth. When the second route is established, the controller controls a switch to establish a path between a requesting channel and the first route if the requested bandwidth is equal to or smaller than the available bandwidth or a path between it and the second route if the requesting channel is classified as the first or second category and the request bandwidth is greater than the available bandwidth. The controller returns a busy tone to the requesting channel if the requested bandwidth is greater than the available bandwidth.
