A low-profile socket contact is provided that is mountable on a print substrate and has a high contact pressure. The socket contact includes a base portion provided on a print substrate, and a contact connecting portion connecting to the tab-shaped contact provided on a central portion of the base portion. The base portion has an opening in which the tab-shaped contact passes through, and a plurality of lead portions solderable to the print substrate. The contact connecting portion has a pair of first bending fragments, a pair of first inverted arms, a pair of second bending fragments, and a pair of second inverted arms. A contact point in contact with the tab-shaped contact is provided on each front ends of the pair of first inverted arms, and a guiding face in which the tab-shaped contact slides is provided on the pair of second inverted arms.

A multiple-level error diffusion processing is performed to obtain an image of a high quality with uniform texture and reduced roughness, while reducing a gradation level. An image processing apparatus comprises a first error diffusion processing section for selectively performing error diffusion processing on input image data according to its gradation values and a second error diffusion processing section for performing error diffusion processing of three or more quantization levels on the output data of the first error diffusion processing section for outputting as output image data. A selective quantization section of the first error diffusion processing section performs such a quantization that errors are supplemented selectively centering a portion where no error is produced through quantization in a quantization section of the second error diffusion processing section.

Image processing method and apparatus

An image processing method and an image processing apparatus are provided to maintain image quality through simple processing while reducing the number of gradation levels of image data by error diffusion process. In an image processing apparatus, data outputted from a filter is subtracted from input image data x(i, j) at the subtracter. Data outputted from the subtracter is quantized at a quantizer. Data outputted from the quantizer is outputted as output image data y(i, j). Furthermore, the data outputted from the subtracter is subtracted from the data outputted from the quantizer at a second subtracter to produce quantization error e(i, j). At a filter section, filtering process is performed on the quantization error e(i, j). Data outputted from the filter section is inputted to the first subtracter. According to the gradation values of the input image data x(i, j), weight coefficient selecting section selects a filter coefficient, which corresponds to weight coefficient for error diffusion at the filter section, and sets it up in the filter section.

An ink-jet printer and an apparatus and a method of driving a recording head for an ink-jet printer for suppressing satellite droplets. Two piezoelectric elements are provided for every ink chamber corresponding to each nozzle. Timing of displacement of the piezoelectric elements is adjusted by applying a drive signal for ink droplet ejection to one of the piezoelectric elements and a drive signal for suppressing satellite droplets when a droplet is ejected to the other piezoelectric element. An auxiliary pressure generated by the displacement of the latter piezoelectric element is superimposed on an ejection pressure generated by the displacement of the former piezoelectric element. Trailing of an ink droplet is cut off at an early stage and generation of satellite droplets is suppressed.

In an image processing apparatus, data outputted from a filter is subtracted from input image data x(i, j) at a first subtracter. Data outputted from the subtracter is quantified at a quantifier. Data outputted from the quantizer is outputted as output image data y(i, j). Furthermore, the data outputted from the subtracter is subtracted from the data outputted from the quantizer at a second subtracter to produce quantization error e (i, j). At a quantization error converter, quantization error e (i, j) is converted into quantization error e (i, j) within a specific range determined for each quantization level, based on the quantization level after quantization at the quantizer. Quantization error e (i, j) is inputted to the filter. Data outputted from the filter is inputted to the first subtracter.

An ink-jet printer and an apparatus and a method of driving a recording head for an ink-jet printer are provided for faithfully performing various image representations through ink droplet ejection driving signals of different waveforms. Based on a waveform selection signal from a selection controller, a waveform selector selects one of a plurality of drive signals from a drive waveform generator in a time-division manner. The selected signal is supplied to a piezoelectric element of a corresponding nozzle. Control is thereby performed on ink droplet ejection with a drive signal having a temporally varying waveform. The drive signals include a signal having a varying voltage waveform that disables ink droplet ejection in isolation from another waveform. A new composite drive signal waveform is generated by time-divisional selection not only at a point between ejection cycles but also at a point during the ejection cycle.
