A sintered magnet sawing apparatus is provided comprising a cylindrical work carrier mounted on a horizontal rotating spindle and having a regular polygonal shape in a perpendicular cross section, and a plurality of endless elastic belts adapted to force a work of sintered magnet against the carrier surface to secure the work thereto and adapted to travel synchronously with and counter to the rotation of the carrier in a circulatory manner. In accordance with rotation of the carrier, the work is delivered to the peripheral surface of the carrier, secured thereto by the elastic belts, moved further forward and cutoff machined by an outer cutoff blade. The divided work is moved further forward, released and discharged from the carrier.

Apparatus and method for cutoff machining sintered magnet

In an outer blade cutting wheel comprising an annular thin disc base of cemented carbide having an outer diameter of 80-200 mm, an inner diameter of 30-80 mm, and a thickness of 0.1-1.0 mm, and a blade section disposed on an outer periphery of the base, the blade section comprises diamond grains and/or CBN grains bound with a metal bond having a Young's modulus of 0.7-4.0&#xd7;10Pa and has a thickness which is greater than the thickness of the base by at least 0.01 mm. A sintered magnet sawing apparatus is provided comprising a cylindrical work carrier mounted on a horizontal rotating spindle and having a regular polygonal shape in a perpendicular cross section, and a plurality endless elastic belts adapted to force a work of sintered magnet against the carrier surface to secure the work thereto and adapted to travel synchronously with and counter to the rotation of the carrier in a circulatory manner. In accordance with rotation of the carrier, the work is delivered to the peripheral surface of the carrier, secured thereto by the elastic belts, moved further forward and cutoff machined by an outer cutoff blade. The divided work is moved further forward, released and discharged from the carrier.

The disclosed cemented carbide base outer blade cutting wheel comprises a base in the form of an annular thin disc of cemented carbide, and a blade section on the outer periphery of the base. The blade section contains: diamond and/or CBN abrasive grains pre-coated with a magnetic material; a metal or alloy bond formed by electroplating or electroless plating for bonding abrasive grains together and to the base; and a metal or alloy binder having a melting point of up to 350&#xb0; C. infiltrated between abrasive grains and between abrasive grains and the base. The method for manufacturing said outer blade cutting wheel is also disclosed.

An outer blade cutting wheel comprising an annular thin disc base of cemented carbide and a blade section is manufactured by disposing permanent magnet pieces on the side surfaces and inward of the outer periphery of the base to produce a magnetic field, providing magnetic coated diamond and/or CBN abrasive grains such that the magnetic field may act on the grains, causing the grains to be magnetically attracted to the base outer periphery, and electroplating or electroless plating whereby the abrasive grains are bound to the base outer periphery to form the blade section.

An outer blade cutting wheel comprising an annular thin disc base of cemented carbide and a blade section of metal or alloy-bonded abrasive grains on the outer periphery of the base is provided. Hydrogen absorbing alloy powder, process for producing same, and alkaline secondary battery

The object is to provide a hydrogen absorbing alloy suitable for the negative electrode of a Ni-hydrogen storage battery which is effective at low temperatures. The object can be attained by a LaNi.sub.5 type hydrogen absorbing alloy, wherein the content of Mg in the hydrogen absorbing alloy is 50 to 500 ppm, and it is represented by a general formula RNi.sub.a Co.sub.b Al.sub.c M.sub.d, wherein R comprises not less than 77 wt % La and 23 wt % or less of one or more metals other than La, Ni, Co, Al and M, M comprises at least one kind of metals selected from the group consisting of Fe, Cr, Cu and Mn, and a to d denote a positive number within a predetermined range. Hydrogen absorbing alloy for a negative electrode of an alkaline storage

Provided is a hydrogen absorbing alloy suitable for a negative electrode of an Ni--hydrogen storage battery effective at low temperature, more specifically, a R--Ni type of hydrogen absorbing alloy represented by a general formula RNi.sub.a Co.sub.b Al.sub.c M.sub.d, and with Mo content of 50 to 500 ppm wherein R expresses not less than 18 wt % Pr and one or more metals other than Pr, Ni, Co, Al and M, and M expresses one or more metals selected from the group consisting of Fe, Cr, Cu, and Mn, and a to d expresses positive numbers in the specified range Moreover, the above alloy further containing trace amounts of Mg, Ti, Pb, oxygen, carbon, and/or sulfur is provided.

Proposed is an improvement in the method for the preparation of a battery electrode consisting of a spongy metal sheet to serve as a substrate having a three-dimensional skeletal structure with intercommunicating open pores and an active material filling the open pores of the skeletal structure of the substrate. While the conventional process comprises the steps of imparting electroconductivity to the surface of the skeleton of a foamed resin sheet, forming a plating layer of a metal on the surface of the foamed resin imparted with conductivity and removing the resin by thermal decomposition to leave the metallic plating layer alone followed by impregnation of the open pores with a pasty active material, the improvement of the invention comprises subjecting the foamed resin sheet, prior to the step of imparting the resin surface with electroconductivity, to a low temperature plasma treatment so as to remove the spiky fragments or dendritic protrusions of the resin on the surface of the skeleton so that the impregnating work of the skeletal space of the spongy metal sheet with a pasty active material is greatly facilitated and the durability of the battery prepared by using the battery electrode is remarkably increased. Further, an additional improvement can be obtained by forming the metallic plating layer on the foamed resin skeleton having a larger thickness in the marginal areas of the foamed resin sheet than in the center area surrounded by the marginal areas.
