A selecting apparatus is disclosed which includes a selecting unit for selecting an input source from a plurality of sources, a switching unit for switching content data in the input source selected by the selecting unit, an operating unit made up of a plurality of operating elements constituting the single integral operating unit, and a controlling unit for controlling the switching unit to switch the content data if a predetermined operating element among the operating elements constituting the operating unit is operated, the controlling element further controlling the selecting unit to execute the input source selection if another predetermined operating element among the constituting elements is operated.

A recording apparatus is disclosed which includes first through n-th recording means for recording input broadcast contents to a recording medium. When a user designates a reservation of a broadcast content recording, the apparatus automatically selects one of the recording means so as to make the recording reservation to the selected recording means. If any such recording means cannot be selected automatically, i.e., if recording reservations have already been made to all recording means for a time slot corresponding to the reservation desired to be made anew, then the user is asked to select particular recording means for the reservation. A recording reservation made to one recording means may be switched automatically to another recording means as needed. That is, any recording reservation after being made may be switched from one recording means to another before actual execution of the recording, in order to reflect the status of other recording reservations that have been made since. These arrangements enhance the user's ease of operation and help to build an advantageous setup for recording reservation management.

There is provided a system for recording and/or reproduction of broadcasting programs permits the facilitation of selection and management of recorded videos in the manner of following the operations of general AV equipment such as televisions and video decks, in which virtual channels are assigned according to categories defined by a user, and programs corresponding to the categories are recorded into the virtual channels, and since the recorded programs are set in array on a time base for simultaneous reproduction on each virtual channel, the user may happen to watch various recorded programs only by switching over the channels from one to another or continuing to reproduce recorded programs in a single channel after application of power at any time, which results in quite passive style only sufficient for the user to watch the recorded programs.

The present invention provides a recording/reproducing apparatus capable of realizing proper recorded-content management on a large-capacity storage device. The content data recorded on the recording medium is managed with the content age computed by a lapse time from its recording date-and-time and a genre, and automatically deleted with priority of higher content age. Meanwhile, the user is allowed to instruct delete-prohibition management on a content not desired for automatic deletion. The content data placed under delete-prohibition management is excluded from a subject of automatic deletion. Meanwhile, concerning the delete-prohibition management, an upper limit value is provided. By disabling to unnecessarily placing a great deal of content data under delete-prohibition management, secured is a recording domain during automatic picture-recording or so.

Recording/reproducing apparatus, recording/managing method, recording medium and program

In a first step, contents scheduled in the &ldquo;past&rdquo; of a virtual channel are extracted, in a second step one of the contents is selected, in the event that judgment is made in a third step that the contents are not in a playable state the flow proceeds to a seventh step but in the event that judgment is made that the contents are in a playable state judgement is made in a fourth step whether the corresponding contents have already been scheduled n times (n being a number for sufficient opportunity for viewing or listening) in the future. In the event that the number is less than n times, the contents are placed in the future at the time of the next scheduling in a fifth step, but in the event that the number is n times, in a sixth step the contents are set in a state to be deleted. In the event that judgment is made in the seventh step that processing of the all of the extracted contents has not been completed, the flow returns to the second step, but in the event that judgment is made that all processing has been completed, the flow ends. Thus, contents regarding which the user has no interest are automatically deleted.

Recording/playing apparatus and contents managing method

A pivot is provided on or in the vicinity of the axis of binding portions of a stapler main body, and rotatably supports a front end portion of a stapler main body. A driving system swings the stapler main body about the pivot within a given angular range. Having the above pivot and driving system, a binding angle changing mechanism changes a binding angle formed by the side of recording sheets and the stapler main body by use of drive force of the driving system. An advance/retreat mechanism advances or retreats the stapler main body perpendicularly to the side of the recording sheets between a retreat position that is distant from a subject end portion of the recording sheets and a binding position where the binding portions are to bite the subject end portion.

A sheet post processing apparatus includes the following elements: a tray; a stapling unit; a post processing setter; a stapling controller; a punching controller; and a post processing modification controller. The post processing setter sets details relating to the stapling and punching of the sheet on which an image is to be formed. The punching controller determines information on the sheets stored in the tray as a result of the preceding job. The post processing modification controller changes details on the post process of the next job, if necessary, so as to prohibit, at least, a stapling operation. The post processing modification controller can also include a display indicating the status of execution or errors and can be programmed to execute a single batch job.

Sheet post processing apparatus

A sheet distributing system including a sheet transfer unit, disposed within a housing, for transferring recorded sheets discharged from a sheet exit of an image recording unit to a sheet distribution stage, and a set of vertically arranged bin trays on one side of the housing and being moved toward the sheet distribution stage at the distributing timings of the recorded sheets, whereby the recorded sheets are distributed into the bin trays. The sheet distributing system further includes a post-processing unit located below or above the sheet transfer unit and disposed in a space, within the housing, which extends in the direction of the width of the sheet transfer unit, and a post-process control unit for causing the post-processing unit to successively apply a predetermined post-process to one side marginal portion of a stack of recorded sheets being contained in each of the bin trays at a post-processing stage different from the sheet distribution stage, when the sheet distributing operation has been completed. The post-processing unit may be a stapler or a puncher.
