A honeycomb filter includes a plurality of cells and porous cell walls. Exhaust gas is to flow through the plurality of cells. The plurality of cells include exhaust gas introduction cells and exhaust gas emission cells. The honeycomb filter has a round cross sectional shape. Each of the exhaust gas emission cells is adjacently surrounded fully by the exhaust gas introduction cells. In the cross section, the exhaust gas introduction cells and the exhaust gas emission cells each have a polygonal shape. In the cross section, a side forming a cross sectional shape of each of the first exhaust gas introduction cells faces one of the exhaust gas emission cells, a side forming a cross sectional shape of each of the second exhaust gas introduction cells faces one of the exhaust gas emission cells.

Honeycomb filter

A honeycomb filter includes a plurality of cells and porous cell walls. Exhaust gas is to flow through the plurality of cells. The plurality of cells include exhaust gas introduction cells and exhaust gas emission cells. The honeycomb filter has a round cross sectional shape. The honeycomb filter has a ratio of length of the honeycomb filter to a diameter of the round cross sectional shape of less than 1.0. A total volume of the exhaust gas introduction cells is larger than a total volume of the exhaust gas emission cells.

A honeycomb structure includes a ceramic block including a plurality of honeycomb fired bodies, a first adhesive layer, and a second adhesive layer. The plurality of honeycomb fired bodies includes center-portion honeycomb fired bodies located at a center portion in a cross-section perpendicular to the longitudinal direction and peripheral honeycomb fired bodies surrounding the center-portion honeycomb fired bodies. The first adhesive layer is interposed between the center-portion honeycomb fired bodies to connect the center-portion honeycomb fired bodies. The second adhesive layer is interposed between each of the center-portion honeycomb fired bodies and each of the peripheral honeycomb fired bodies and between the peripheral honeycomb fired bodies. An adhesive strength &#x3b1; between the center-portion honeycomb fired bodies bonded via the first adhesive layer is higher than an adhesive strength &#x3b2; between honeycomb fired bodies bonded via the second adhesive layer.

Honeycomb structure and method for manufacturing the same

A honeycomb structured body includes a plurality of honeycomb members which are bonded to one another by interposing an adhesive layer. Each of the honeycomb members has a number of cells placed in parallel with one another in the longitudinal direction with a cell wall therebetween. When the longitudinal direction is defined as the orientation axis, the degree of orientation &#x3a9; of the inorganic fibers in the adhesive layer obtained by the Saltykov method is set in the range of about 0.2&#x2266;&#x3a9;&#x2266;about 0.7 or in the range of about &#x2212;0.7&#x2266;&#x3a9;&#x2266;about &#x2212;0.2 in the adhesive layer.
