The present invention provides a coordinate data entry device comprising a plurality of receivers disposed in the vicinity of a board surface, and a position indicator to transmit signals, at least one of which employs ultrasonic waves, to the receivers, thereby detecting the position of the position indicator on the board surface and making the coordinate position thereof available for entry, in which the signal employing ultrasonic waves is transmitted at an arbitrary time interval, and an ultrasonic oscillating circuit transmitting the signal employing ultrasonic waves comprises a resonant circuit formed of an ultrasonic resonator and a coil, which are connected in parallel with each other, and the amplitude of a start current of the ultrasonic resonant circuit is made variable according to the lapse of time, thus allowing the variations in performance of the resonant circuit including the ultrasonic resonator to be smoothed out and making stabilized positional detection possible.

An electronic whiteboard capable of being drawn by using marker pens of several colors and one penholder, and a penholder for use in such an electronic whiteboard are disclosed. In a penholder for mounting marker pens, an infrared light emitting unit emits infrared light containing color information of the marker pen, an ultrasonic wave emitting unit emits a the ultrasonic wave, and color information changeover means changes over color information depending on the color of marker pen. The electronic whiteboard main body receives the infrared light and ultrasonic wave emitted from the penholder, and issues information about a position of the penholder depending on the reception timing of the infrared light and ultrasonic wave.

The present invention provides a mechanical sensor high in sensitivity (GF) and reliability. The mechanical sensor comprises an insulating substrate, a pair of electrodes formed on the insulating substrate, and a piezoresistance element formed by connecting the electrodes. The piezoresistance element is substantially made of a glass of the PbO--SiO.sub.2 --B.sub.2 --O.sub.3 --Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 system comprising 73.1 to 86.7 wt % of PbO, 9.7 to 22.2 wt % of SiO.sub.2, 2.5 to 5.0 wt % of B.sub.2 O.sub.3 and 0.9 to 3.6 wt % of Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 and a ruthenium oxide powder dispersed in the glass. The piezoresistance element is formed by coating and baking a paste containing the ruthenium oxide powder, a powder of the glass and an organic binder.

The composite layer according to the present invention comprises a substrate and a colored layer formed on the surface of this substrate. This colored layer contains a transparent layer and a coloring agent dispersed within the transparent layer, and this transparent layer is made of an inorganic gel or glass material, while the coloring agent contains dyes or pigments. The composite layers of the present invention are suitable for use in products such as construction materials with the appearance of marble, colored glass materials for decorative purposes, or color filters.

A pressure sensor including a plate-shaped metal substrate; a glass layer provided on a surface of the metal substrate and mainly containing a partially devitrified enamel composition; a resistor element which is provided on a surface of the glass layer and has an electric resistance changed in accordance with the degree of strain thereof; and a pair of electrodes connected to the resistor element. An infrared transmitting chalcogenide glass lens having precision optical surfaces of different curvature radii is molded. A pair of molds having different curvature radiuses from each other, and a bushing which controls the thickness of the lens is provided. A block of chalcogenide glass is placed within the cavity. The upper mold, the lower mold and the block of glass are heated with the mold having a smaller curvature radius being at a higher temperature than the other mold. The glass is then pressed, cooled, and the resulting lens is removed from the mold assembly.

Method of molding chalcogenide glass lenses

An infrared-transmissive lens formed by using glass including germanium and selenium or germanium and sulfur as main components and a human body detecting device including the lens and a pyroelectric infrared sensor are disclosed. With this configuration, glass having excellent transmissivity of infrared rays, no poisonous characteristic and difficulty to be crystallized is obtained and the glass is subjected to thermal pressing work to form a lens. The lens and a pyroelectric infrared sensor are combined to obtain a scanning type human body detecting sensor device. Further, the scanning type human body detecting sensor device can be used to detect a plurality of human bodies simultaneously.

C. and 300.degree. C., a working temperature of from 430.degree. to 620.degree. C. and water resistance of the first class, which glass is not deeply colored and is not devitrified during the assembly of the magnetic head.

This is to introduce a strain sensor of high quality and excellent durability. This strain sensor is composed of a basic metal body, a crystallized glass layer formed over the surface of the basic metal body, and a resistance element that changes its resistance value by strain changes and is built on the glass layer surface. By this structure, where the crystallized glass layer fired at a high temperature is employed, both of the composition, the basic metal body and the glass layer, are fused with each other at the boundary plane, making their adhesion very strong. No peeling between the basic metal body and the glass layer will take place even under the severe environmental conditions such as high temperature and heavy load.

A magnetic head comprising magnetic core halves which are sealed with a sealing glass which consists essentially of 10 to 25% by weight of SiO.sub.2, 55 to 80% by weight of PbO, 1 to 15% by weight of CdO, 0 to 10% by weight of B.sub.2 O.sub.3, 0 to 5% by weight of ZnO, 0 to 5% by weight of Al.sub.2 O.sub.3, 0 to 5% by weight of Na.sub.2 O, and 0 to 10% by weight of K.sub.2 O, provided that a total content of Na.sub.2 O and K.sub.2 O does not exceed 10% by weight, has a coefficient of thermal expansion of from 90.times.10.sup.-7 /.degree. C. to 110.times.10.sup.-7 /.degree. C. in a temperature range between 30.degree. C. and 300.degree. C., a working temperature of 600.degree. C. or lower and water resistance of the second class or higher, which glass is not deeply colored and is not devitrified during the assembly of the magnetic head.

The invention relates to crystallized glass that can be used with various electronic components such as magnetic heads and the like as bonding or sealing glass. This crystallized glass comprises, in % by weight, at least 11-17% of SiO.sub.2, 7-10% of B.sub.2 O.sub.3, 30-55% of PbO, 1-3% of CdO, 5-10% of A.sub.2 O (A stands for a kind of alkali metal), 7-35% of ZnO and 0-10% of ZrO.sub.2 with the sum of ZnO and ZrO.sub.2 not exceeding 35%, and has the characteristics of 550.degree.-600.degree. C. as the working temperature, (80-100).times.10.sup.-7 /.degree.C. as the thermal expansion coefficient, 550.degree. C. or more as the thermal expansion coefficient, and 550.degree. C. or more as the glass transition point after working.

Crystallized glass

A method for manufacturing a glass fiber having a polygonal cross section is provided. According to the method, a glass fiber having an orbicular cross section is manufactured by drawing molten glass supplied into a crucible heated at higher temperatures than a softening point of glass out of a nozzle having an orbicular cross section heated at lower temperatures than the heating temperature of the crucible and at higher temperatures than the softening point of glass. Then, the glass fiber is passed through a slit of a twin roller, having a predetermined shape, whereby glass fibers having a polygonal cross section are successively manufactured. The twin roller is heated at slightly higher temperatures than the softening point of the glass.
