A universal joint which retains a lubricant, is capable of suppressing the exudation of a lubricating component to a minimum amount and preventing the lubricant from scattering from an open portion when the lubricant is deformed by an external force, and a method for producing the universal joint. In the universal joint, a rotational torque is transmitted by engagement between a torque transmission member () and tracks () provided on an outer member () and an inner member (); the torque transmission member () rolls along the tracks (), thus moving in an axial direction; and a porous solid lubricant () is enclosed on a periphery of the torque transmission member (). The porous solid lubricant () containing a lubricating component and a resin component is a solid made porous by foaming and hardening the resin component.
