A parking assistance device includes: a candidate line detection unit that detects a candidate line that is a candidate for a boundary line in image data obtained by imaging a periphery of a vehicle; and a boundary line recognition unit that executes a determination process to determine whether or not a difference in luminance between areas on an outside of the candidate line in a width direction in the image data, the areas being on both sides of the candidate line, is equal to or larger than a luminance threshold, does not recognize the candidate line as a boundary line when determining that the difference in luminance is equal to or larger than the luminance threshold, and recognizes the candidate line as a boundary line when determining that the difference in luminance is less than the luminance threshold.

Provided is a parking assistance device including a captured image acquisition unit imaging a road surface around a vehicle and an end detector detecting an end of a ground object on the road surface within a detection area in the captured image. A position calculator calculates position information indicating a positional relationship of the end of the ground object. A boundary line determiner determines whether or not a ground object having the end is a boundary line that defines a parking slot for the vehicle. A removal unit determines whether or not a rear end of a ground object determined as the boundary line by the boundary line determination unit is included in a removal range, determines that a ground object determined as the boundary line is not the boundary line when the rear end is included in the removal range, and excludes the ground object from boundary lines.

A parking assistance device that recognizes a parking stall where a vehicle is to be parked, includes: at least three cameras that take images of an outside of the vehicle; a setting unit that sets, based on a preset setting condition, a camera which is to take an image used for recognizing the parking stall; and a detection unit that detects the parking stall based on the image taken by the set camera.

A passage direction detecting device includes: a detection processing unit that detects a passage direction in which a passage connected to an exit of a parking area of a vehicle extends and the vehicle has to travel after exiting from the parking area, based on a road surface marking provided on a road surface to illustrate the parking area.

A parking assist apparatus includes: a setting unit that sets, within a captured image in which objects surrounding a moving vehicle have been imaged, a first search area for searching for a pair of partition lines disposed between parking spaces that are adjacent to each other; and a detecting unit that searches the first search area to detect a first partition line out of the pair of partition lines. When the detecting unit detects the first partition line, the setting unit sets a second search area for searching for a second partition line out of the pair of partition lines on the basis of the first partition line.
