A novel block copolymer consisting essentially of ethylene and propylene and comprising 1 to 20 parts by weight of block (A) having an ethylene content of 0 to 4% by weight, 5 to 49 parts by weight of block (B) having an ethylene content of more than 4% and less than 25% by weight, and 50 to 94 parts by weight of block (C) having an ethylene content of 25 to 85% by weight. The block copolymer is characterized by less formation of flow marks in molding, and also has excellent tensile characteristics.

There is disclosed a coating agent for imparting electroconductivity which comprises electroconductive carbon black dispersed in a hydrophilic solution of a maleic acid copolymer subjected to treatment for imparting hydrophilic property by use of a basic substance. By applying the coating agent for imparting electroconductivity of the present invention to a substrate, particularly a paper, a high level of electroconductivity can be given without imparting air permeability or liquid absorbing characteristic.

An olefin is polymerized by using a catalyst consisting essentially of (A) a solid catalyst component containing a magnesium halide and a titanium chloride, (B) an organic aluminum compound, and (C) an ether compound represented by the formula: R.sup.1 R.sup.2 R.sup.3 C(OR.sup.4), R.sup.1 R.sup.2 C(OR.sup.4).sub.2 or R.sup.1 C(OR.sup.4).sub.3. The catalyst has high catalytic activity and high stereoregularity as well as good activity endurance and is especially suitable for production of block copolymers.

A block copolymer comprising 60 to 95 parts by weight of a binary or tertiary random copolymer block A comprising propylene, ethylene and/or butene-1 and 5 to 40 parts by weight of a binary or tertiary random copolymer block B comprising butene-1, propylene and, optionally, ethylene. A propylene block copolymer comprising propylene, ethylene and a straight-chain .alpha.-olefin of 5 to 12 carbon atoms is characterized in that: its limiting viscosity is 0.3 to 15 dl/g (at 135.degree. C., in decalin); it comprises specified quantities of these monomers; and when it is subjected to successive extraction with o-dichlorobenzene at 40.degree. C. and 80.degree. C., the quantities, fusion peak temperatures, and content of the .alpha.-olefin of the resulting fractions are respectively within specific limits of values.

Propylene block copolymers

A propylene copolymer, which comprises units of (A) propylene, (B) a monomer selected from the group consisting of branched alpha-olefins (i.e. 4-methyl-1-pentene), styrene and styrene derivatives (e.g. methyl styrene), and (C) an optional monomer selected from the group consisting of straight-chain alpha-olefins of 2 to 12 carbon atoms other than propylene (e.g. ethylene), and which is defined by its thermal analysis data on a differential scanning calorimeter; and a process for producing the copolymer. Block copolymers of propylene and 4-methyl-1-pentene

A copolymer of propylene and a straight-chain .alpha.-olefin of 5 to 12 carbon atoms is characterized in that: its intrinsic viscosity is 0.3 to 15 dl./g. (at 135.degree. C., in decalin); it contains 3 to 30 percent by weight of the .alpha.-olefin; and when it is subjected to successive extraction with o-dichlorobenzene at 40.degree. C. and 80.degree. C., the quantities, fusion peak temperatures, and content of the .alpha.-olefin of the resulting fractions are respectively within specific limits of values. A preferred copolymer contains about 0.5 to 50 percent of a propylene homopolymer block and about 99.5 to 50 percent of a random copolymer block of propylene and a straight chain .alpha.-olefin having 5 to 12 carbon atoms.

Propylene copolymers

A new propylene copolymer comprises a propylene homopolymer block and a terpolymeric random copolymer block of propylene, ethylene, and hexene-1 and is further characterized in that: (a) the proportion therein of the propylene homopolymer block is 97 to 80 percent by weight; (b) the terpolymeric random copolymer block has been so copolymerized that the contents therein of the propylene, ethylene, and hexene-1 based on their respective monomers are 80 to 98 percent, 5 to 1 percent, and 15 to 1 percent, respectively, all percentages being by weight; and (c) the intrinsic viscosity thereof in a decalin solution at 135.degree. C. is 0.3 to 15 dl/g.

Novel propylene copolymers

Improvement in the weathering properties of polyolefin resins has been achieved by intimate compositions comprising Ziegler-process crystalline polyolefins containing halogen-magnesium compounds as catalytic carrier residues, and organic phosphorus compounds such as organic phosphites. The compositions may contain auxiliary components normally used in polyolefin resins; antioxidants and/or ultraviolet absorbers are especially useful.

Polyolefin resin compositions

A solid catalyst component for forming, in combination with an organoaluminium compound, a catalyst for polymerization of .alpha.-olefins is provided, whereby .alpha.-olefin polymers having high stereoregularity or stereospecificity are produced in a high yield. The catalyst component is a product of contact of materials consisting essentially of a halogen-containing magnesium compound, a nucleus-substituted or unsubstituted benzoate ester and a titanium compound, and satisfies the conditions that the solid catalyst component contains 0.5 to 3.5% by weight of titanium atoms, and the highest absorption peak in the infrared absorption spectrum of the catalyst component among the absorption peaks appearing in the wave-number range of 1560 cm.sup.-1 to 1710 cm.sup.-1 appears in the wave-number region of 1665 cm.sup.-1 to 1710 cm.sup.-1.
