Data for a map of a predetermined area is divided into a plurality of blocks, stored in an external memory medium such as a cassette tape, and loaded into a CPU when deemed necessary. The map as a whole or parts of the map can be arbitrarily selected and displayed through the operation of a keyboard, and vocal sight-seeing guidances corresponding to the displayed maps are simultaneously produced. Control of this multiple map system is effected by an electronic device having a microprocessor, and selected maps and necessary words are shown in displayed pictures by a display means, such as a cathode ray tube or the like.

A drive guide system for guiding a motor vehicle from a start point to a destination point by displaying a travel locus of the motor vehicle on a map is disclosed. A drive route map from the start point to the destination point is divided into a plurality of sections and they are stored in a memory. When a position of the motor vehicle reaches or approaches an outline of the map section displayed on a display screen, the drive route map section on the display screen is switched to the one corresponding to the direction of travel to be followed by the motor vehicle in accordance with a current azimuth of travel of the motor vehicle.

An arrangement is proposed which is adapted to prevent misconnection between two optical connectors each having a female half and a male half. The female half is formed with a projection and the male half is formed with a hole to receive the projection. A guide plate having one corner beveled is mounted on the projection to prevent misconnection.

A travel locus display device has a display unit such as a CRT display to display a start point and a destination point of a vehicle and a travel locus of the vehicle from the start point to the destination point on a coordinate display area of a display screen of the display unit. The display screen is divided into four quadrants, one of which is selected as a display quadrant to which the destination point belongs. The display quadrant is displyed over an entire area of the coordinate display area.

In an apparatus for controlling an air conditioner through a computer, various controls are automatically effected by voice command as well as by manual operation. Specific voice commands are predetermined in accordance with the control objectives. The voice commands are read by a voice recognizing equipment, whereby recirculated air-fresh air switching and air outlet switching are effected by a microprocessor in accordance with the commands, thereby eliminating necessity for manual operation.

In the system where multiple devices share one circuit by a sequential transmission system, each of the devices is adopted to monitor the transmission from a device one stage before the device which is immediately prior to the device and when a predetermined period of time passes after the transmission from the devices two stages before the device was made, the device is made to start its own transmission without waiting for the transmission from the device immediately therebefore. The transmission control system mentioned above does not fail and the sequential transmission continues even if a part of the devices fails.

An antenna for a vehicle-mounted receiver/transmitter includes: a driver for extending and retracting an antenna connected to the receiver/transmitter; a selector for selecting a frequency to be received and/or transmitted by the receiver/transmitter; and a controller which operates in response to an output from the frequency selector for causing the driver to extend and retract the antenna by the length corresponding to the frequency, and for retracting almost the entire antenna into the body of the vehicle when the receiver/transmitter is not operating.

Maps from a starting point to a destination are automatically, successively renewed and indicated on CRT each time a predetermined distance is covered. The map to be indicated are divided into a plurality of map contents and stored in a memory medium, and further, checkpoints for correcting accumulated errors of the running distance each predetermined distance are stored in the memory medium. Additionally, a notice by voice is given everytime map is renewed, immediately before the renewal.

Voice commands of two types are recognized by an air conditioner: (1) a first command to jump to a different air delivery (below-out) temperature, after which a gradual automatic return to the previously set temperature occurs, or (2) a second command which will stop the automatic return at some arbitrary temperature.

A plurality of control modes set in consideration of the comfortability in a compartment of a vehicle are previously stored in a memory medium, such as a magnetic card, and programs of the compressor control, the recirculation/fresh air change-over control, the blow-out opening change-over control, the air flow rate control, the condensation prevention control and the like which are preset in a central processing unit are performed in accordance with the data of the aforesaid memory medium. Output signals from sensors provided at various portions of the vehicle or instructions by the operator, and various controls concerning the air conditioner are automatically performed without requiring manual operations. The controls can be effected through any one of a speech recognition device, sensors, external components and manual operations.

A digital indication type speedometer comprising a speed counter for counting speed pulses emitted in proportion to a vehicle speed for a given gate time, an indication resistor for latching a value to be indicated commensurate to an output from said speed counter and an indicator for indicating the value latched in said indication register is of such an arrangement that a zero indication discriminating circuit for forcibly setting the value latched in said indication register to zero when an emitting interval of the speed pulses exceeds a predetermined period of time, is provided with or without a hysteresis processing circuit for rewriting the value latched in said indication register in accordance with an output of said speed counter only when a difference between the output of said speed counter and the value latched in said indication register is not within tolerance limit upon comparison therebetween, so that the indication is momentarily returned to zero when the vehicle is stopped, the indication is changed in a short period of time in accordance with the condition of acceleration or deceleration during acceleration or deceleration of the vehicle and no flickering of the indication occurs during running at a constant speed.

A digital indication type speedometer comprising a speed counter for counting speed pulses emitted in proportion to a vehicle speed for a given gate time, an indication register for latching a value to be indicated commensurate to an output from said speed counter and an indicator for indicating the value latched in said indication register is of such an arrangement that a hysteresis processing circuit is provided, which rewrites the value latched in said indication register in accordance with an output of said speed counter only when a difference between the output of said speed counter and the value latched in said indication register is not within tolerance limit upon comparison therebetween, so that response of the indication is excellent during acceleration or deceleration, and no flickering is observed during running at a constant speed.

Small change in the period of a crank-angle signal which is generated at every crankshaft rotation of a predetermined angle is not faithfully reflected to a false crank-angle signal which is used by a fuel injection control device for detecting the engine's running speed. Thus, even when the actual running speed is varied, the running speed recognized by the fuel injection control device doesn't change faithfully to this variation. Therefore, the amount of fuel injected into the engine, which amount is calculated in accordance with the running speed, doesn't vibrate with the variation of the running speed, preventing the surge phenomenon from occurring.
