A cutting head-including printer includes at least one driving roller, a pair of side pinch rollers, a center pinch roller provided between the pair of side pinch rollers, and a roller moving mechanism that causes the center pinch roller to approach, or to be separated from, the at least one driving roller. The cutting head-including printer sets whether to perform cutting after printing or to perform the printing after the cutting. During the cutting performed after the printing, the cutting head-including printer separates the center pinch roller from the at least one driving roller. During the cutting performed before the printing, the cutting head-including printer locates the center pinch roller at a position where the center pinch roller holds a recording medium together with the at least one driving roller.

A cutting machine can be configured to set a cutting line with respect to a cutting material that is placed on a supporting platform, cut the cutting material along one cutting line that intersect with and changes direction at a second cutting line at a corner portion, leaving a part of the cutting material connected along a predetermined distance from a point of intersection of the corner portion, and cutting along the other cutting line so as to not leave a connected part, up to a predetermined distance from the point of intersection of the corner portion.

A controller includes a cutter movement controller that controls a value of an electric current to flow in a voice coil motor to apply a first electromagnetic force to a holder in a downward direction for a first time duration, then to apply the first electromagnetic force to the holder in an upward direction for a second time duration shorter than the first time duration, to pause the supply of the electric current to the voice coil motor for a third time duration longer than the second time duration, then to apply a third electromagnetic force, which is smaller than, or equal to, the first electromagnetic force and is an electromagnetic force applied to cut a cutting target, to the holder in the downward direction for a fourth time duration longer than the first time duration, and thus to cause a cutter to contact the cutting target, and a cutting controller that, after a predetermined time duration from the time when the electric current starts to flow in the voice coil motor, controls a carriage and a conveyor to start cutting the cutting target.

Cutting device

A printer includes a motor power supply line connecting a carriage motor with a power source, a sensor power supply line connecting a rotary encoder with the power source, a circuit breaker provided on the motor power supply line and interrupting electrical power if a cover sensor detects that a front cover is open and permit connection if the cover sensor detects that the front cover is closed, and a controller controlling the carriage motor and a recording head based on a position of a carriage detected by the rotary encoder.
