A cassette to record a radiation image of an object to be radiographed includes a sheet-shaped recording medium including a layer of needle imaging plate, formed by a deposition method, having a thickness of 20 &#x3bc;m to 2 mm. The sheet-shaped recording medium is accommodated in a space between a front member and a back member of the cassette, such that the recording medium receives the radiation image of the object through the front member, and the back member is positioned opposite and attached to the front member. The back and front members are attachable to each other and detachable from each other along a direction that is substantially the same as a growing direction of the needle imaging plate. The recording medium is coupled to the back member such that the recording medium and the base member move with respect to each other when the back member deforms.

A method for reading radiation image information in which a cassette is lowered while keeping each short side of the cassette extending vertically, and then inserted into a radiation image reading apparatus which has a cassette loading inlet in its upper surface and the inserted cassette is taken into the apparatus, and next the front base and the back base are disengaged in the apparatus and both are separated, and after the radiation image information is read from the stimulable phosphor sheet of the back base which are separated from the front base, and then the front base and the back base are joined and ejected from the insertion opening of the apparatus. The apparatus height is smaller than in the method in which the stimulable phosphor sheet is pulled downward from the cassette and is read, and the operation of lifting the cassette against the force of gravity up to the height of the upper surface of the apparatus becomes unnecessary at the time of inserting the cassette.

Reading method for radiation image information and radiation image reading apparatus

A substantially rectangular insertion opening is formed on the upper surface of the housing of the radiation image reading device. An L-shaped projecting portion which runs from the back side periphery to the right side periphery of the insertion opening is integrally formed with the housing and the projecting portion protrudes above the upper surface of the housing, and the top surface of the projecting portion is higher than the upper surface of the housing. When the cassette is inserted into the insertion opening, if the cassette is allowed to come in contact with the side surface of the projecting portion, positioning of the cassette at the insertion opening is simpler. As a result, quicker and easier insertion of the cassette into the insertion opening becomes possible.

A cassette to record a radiation image of an object to be radiographed, is provided with a sheet-shaped recording medium including a layer of needle imaging plate having a thickness of 20 &#x3bc;m to 2 mm, wherein the needle imaging plate are formed by a deposition method; a front member through which the recording medium receives the radiation image of the object; and a back member positioned opposite to the front member; wherein the front and back members are relatively attached to each other so as to form an accommodation space in which the sheet-shaped recording medium is accommodated or detached from each other and the attaching or detaching direction of the front and back members is substantially the same direction with a growing direction of the needle imaging plate.
