A magnetic toner includes magnetic toner particles containing at least a binder resin and a magnetic iron oxide. The magnetic iron oxide contains 0.2 to 4.0% by weight of at least one metal element selected from the group consisting of Mn, Zn, Ni, Cu, Co, Cr, Cd, Al, Sn and Mg, and 0.2 to 0.8% by weight of silicon element on the basis of an iron element; the ratio (B.sub.si /A.sub.Si).times.100 of the content B.sub.Si of the silicon element present in the magnetic iron oxide up to an iron element solubility of 20% by weight to the total content A.sub.Si of the silicon element present in the magnetic iron oxide is 45 to 85%; the ratio (C.sub.si /A.sub.Si).times.100 of the content C.sub.Si of the silicon element present in the magnetic iron oxide up to an iron element solubility of 10% by weight to the total content A.sub.Si is 35 to 70%; and the magnetic toner has a weight average particle diameter of 3.5 to 10.0 .mu.m, and contains 0 to 30% by volume of magnetic toner particles having a volume particle diameter of 12.7 .mu.m or more determined from a volume distribution.

Magnetic toner, image forming method and process cartridge

A toner is comprised of a composition containing at least a polymer component and a charge control agent. The polymer component contains substantially no tetrahydrofuran (THF)-insoluble matter. The polymer component THF-soluble has a major peak and a minor peak in the specific molecular weight regions in gel permeation chromatography (GPC). The low molecular weight component and high molecular weight component of the polymer component, each of which shows the specific molecular weight region in GPC, have the specific acid values, respectively. The difference between the acid values is in the specific range.

Process cartridge

A toner for developing an electrostatic image is composed from a composition including: polymer components, a colorant, a wax and a charge-controlling agent. The polymer components are characterized by (a) containing substantially no THF (tetrahydrofuran)-insoluble content; (b) containing a THF-soluble content giving a GPC (gel permeation chromatography) chromatogram showing a main peak in a molecular weight region of 3.times.10.sup.3 -3.times.10.sup.4, and a sub-peak or shoulder in a molecular weight region of 1.times.10.sup.5 -3.times.10.sup.6, and (c) including a low-molecular weight polymer component having molecular weights of below 5.times.10.sup.4 on the GPC chromatogram and an acid value A.sub.VL, and a high-molecular weight polymer component having molecular weights of at least 5.times.10.sup.4 and an acid value A.sub.VH satisfying A.sub.VL &gt;A.sub.VH. The wax has an acid value A.sub.VWax satisfying A.sub.VL &gt;A.sub.VWax and A.sub.VWax &gt;0 (mgKOH/g). The toner is characterized by a good combination of low-temperature fixability and anti-offset characteristic, a stable chargeability, and freeness from sleeve ghost phenomenon.

A toner for developing electrostatic images is constituted as a powdery mixture of toner particles, inorganic fine powder, resin fine particles, and metal oxide particles. The toner has a weight-average particle size of 4-12 .mu.m and contains at most 30% by number of particles having a particle size of at most 3.17 .mu.m. The inorganic fine powder has an average primary particle size of 1-50 nm. The resin fine particles have an average particle size of 0.1-2 .mu.m and a shape factor SF1 of at least 100 and below 150. The metal oxide particles have an average particle size of 0.3-3 .mu.m and a shape factor SF1 of 150-250. The toner is effective for preventing toner sticking onto and ununiform abrasion of the electrostatic image-bearing member to allow the formation of high-quality images for a long life.

Toner for developing electrostatic image, apparatus unit and image

A developer for developing an electrostatic image has a toner which contains a particulate toner, a particulate silica A and a particulate silica B. The toner has a weight-average particle size of not larger than 12.0 .mu.m and a particle-number distribution showing not more than 50% of toner particles not larger than 4.0 .mu.m in particle size and not more than 10% of toner particles not smaller than 10.08 .mu.m in particle size, each of the toner particles having a toner composition containing at least a polymer component and a charge controlling agent. The particulate silica A is composed of silicone oil-treated silica particles and has an average particle size of not larger than 0.1 .mu.m, while the particulate silica B is composed of silicone oil-treated silica particles and has an average particle size of 0.5 to 50 .mu.m. The particulate silica B also has a particle-number distribution showing not more than 50% of silica particles not larger than 1.0 .mu.m in particle size and not more than 10% of silica particles not smaller than 100 .mu.m in particle size. Also disclosed is an image forming method which uses this developer.

Developer for developing an electrostatic image and image forming method

A magnetic toner is formed from a binder resin and silicon-containing magnetic iron oxide particles. The magnetic toner has a weight-average particle size of at most 13.5 .mu.m, and the magnetic toner has a particle size distribution such that magnetic toner particles having a particle size of at least 12.7 .mu.m are contained in an amount of at most 50 wt. %. The magnetic iron oxide particles have a silicon content of 0.4-2.0 wt. % based on iron, and the magnetic iron oxide particles have an Fe/Si atomic ratio of 1.2-4.0 at the utmost surfaces thereof. Because of the use of such magnetic iron oxide particles having a specifically controlled overall and surface Si contents, the magnetic toner can show stable performances even after standing in a high humidity environment.
