A WWW client-server system is provided with a local-file-transfer method and a local-file-transfer system which achieve significant reduction in operator work load in comparison with conventional keyboard entry. According to the present invention, lengthy data, which is not suitable for keyboard data entry, is stored as a file in the client device in advance, and is transferred to the server device at the time of search. The server device carries out the search for requested information based on the transferred file data. Furthermore, a search query can be constructed at the client based on combined search conditions made up from search-condition file names and search condition data previously transferred to the server.

Method and apparatus for modeling synthetic crystal structure

A genetic motif extracting apparatus is adapted to extract a motif from genetic sequence information, where the motif has a regularity in a distinctive feature that specifies a genetic function. The genetic motif extracting apparatus includes a weight calculation unit for calculating a weight of each genetic sequence from a length of at least one branch of an evolution tree structure that is related to a plurality of genetic sequences, a score calculation unit for calculating a score that indicates a degree of similarity of sequence elements of the genetic sequences appearing at a site for each site of the genetic sequences using the weight calculated by the weight calculation unit, and a feature information extraction unit for extracting a part of the genetic sequence having the regularity in the distinctive feature as the motif based on the score calculated by the score calculation unit.

Genetic motif extracting method and apparatus

A method of determining a space group corresponding to a crystal structure includes a first step of reading a data structure of a target crystal. The data corresponding to the target crystal structure is then compared with data of crystal structures stored in memory. The stored crystal structures are classified according to lattice constants and other conditions. A plurality of space groups included in the crystal system are obtained by extraction from the memory region. An arithmetic operation is performed on the lattice coordinates of each atom constituting the structure (unit cell) of the target crystal by way of matrices corresponding to the space groups to determine equivalent positions of each atom. Each of the obtained crystal structures is then compared with the target crystal. Upon completion of a successful comparison, a description of a target crystal is obtained.
