A method for oxidizing an aromatic compound possesssing at least one alkyl substituent by using a catalyst avoids containing a corrosive bromine ion, remains stably without being decomposed even in an oxidizing atmospherfe, and permits reclamation is provided. An aromatic compound possessing at least one alkyl substituent is oxidized by using a catalyst which has at least one kind of element selected from the group consisting of phosphorus, silicon, and germanium as a hetero atom and at least one kind of element selected from the group consisting of molybdenum, tungsten, vanadium, and niobium as a poly atom and comprises a heteropoly-oxometalate anion possessing two defective structure site and at least one kind of element selected from the group of elements of Periods 4&tilde;6 of Groups IB, VA,VIIA, and VIII in the Periodic Table of the Elements.

To provide an epoxide-production-use catalyst that is suitably used for producing an epoxide by partial oxidation of an unsaturated hydrocarbon, a catalyst in accordance with the present invention is obtained by fixing gold fine particles to a carrier containing an oxide containing at least one of titanium and zirconium, and has an acid quantity of not more than 0.1 mmol/g determined by the NH -TPD method. This invention provides a catalyst for partial oxidation of unsaturated hydrocarbon, characterized in that the catalyst comprises finely divided gold particles immobilized on a titanium-containing oxide and is one subjected to a silylating treatment or a hydrophobilizing treatment. This invention aims to form hierarchies of coded moving picture data in a simple method or apparatus. An I, P and B separator separates I, P and B picture data from coded moving picture data. A first to a third header/low/high separator separate headers and low and high DCT data components of the separated I, P and B picture data, and hierarchy forming means assigns the outputs of the separators for a 1-st to a 6-th hierarchy by supplying the outputs to packetizers therefor. The packetizers packetize the assigned data, and send out the packetized data on communication lines for the 1-st to 6-th hierarchies. A partially-oxidizing catalyst for hydrocarbon contains gold, titanium oxide and a carrier whose specific surface area is not less than 50 m.sup.2 /g. Hydrogen produced in the dehydrogenation step 1 is consumed in the epoxidation step 2 and the oxygen elimination step 4, and thus does not build up in the system of reaction. Accordingly, it is not necessary to separate or eliminate the hydrogen from the system of reaction. In other words, a method can be provided which is industrially advantageous for continuously producing an epoxide from an alkane.
