A communication apparatus of the present disclosure includes: an antenna unit including a human body electrode and a spatial electrode; a communication circuit unit that performs communication using at least a human body as a communication medium via the antenna unit; and a shielding structure that has an opening into which a portion of the human body or a communication conductor electrically conducted to the human body is insertable, and contains at least a portion of the antenna unit of the communication circuit unit and the antenna unit.

At the time of transmission, a switch between the space side electrode and the circuit board is turned off to make a three-pole electrode configuration having superiority in the transmission characteristic, and each electrode is caused to function as an independent electrode. At the time of reception, the switch between the space side electrode and the circuit board is turned on to electrically short-circuit the space side electrode and the circuit board, to cause the electrodes to function as a two-pole electrode configuration having superiority in the transmission characteristic.

Transmission/reception device and transmission/reception method

The present technology relates to a transmitter/receiver and a transmitting/receiving method capable of suppressing deterioration of transmission efficiency during reception while maintaining transmission efficiency during transmission. A first electrode is provided close to a communication medium, a second electrode is provided in a manner facing the first electrode, and a third electrode is provided close to the communication medium together with the first electrode. A transmission circuit is connected to the first electrode and the second electrode so as to transmit a signal, and a reception circuit is connected to the first electrode and the second electrode so as to receive the signal. A switch electrically connects the second electrode to the third electrode, and an electrode control unit controls electrical connection between the second electrode and the third electrode by turning ON/OFF the switch. The present technology can be applied to, for example, a transmitter/receiver that transmits and receives a signal via a human body.

The present disclosure relates to a transmission/reception device, a transmission/reception method, and a program capable of improving a transmission characteristic in human body communication in both transmission and reception.
