A vertical mill, a classifier for the mill, and a controller for the classifier. The vertical mill includes a casing having a top plate, and the classifier is adjacent the top plate. Beneath the top plate, upon which impinges an upwardly moving gas and powdery material being supplied from the lower portion of the casing, are provided a plurality of rotary blades or rotary rods which have a vertical axis of rotation. A gap is provided between the rotary blades and the top plate, and an annular impingement member is suspended from the top of the casing to outwardly surround the plurality of rotary blades in such a way as to shield the gap. Further, an opening is provided adjacent the impingement member through which a portion of the gas and powdery material pass. The controller of the classifier includes means for adjusting the opening through which the powdery material passes. A collecting device is provided for collecting powdery material from the classifier, including a detector for detecting the distribution of the particle sizes of the powdery material received by the collecting device and giving an output related to the distribution. A mechanism for adjusting the flow area of the opening in response to the output is also provided.

Classifier and controller for vertical mill

A roller mill according to this invention includes a base and a table supported on the base, the table being adapted to be rotated on a generally vertical axis. The table has an annular groove formed in its top surface, the groove having a semicircular cross section. At least one roller is supported by the base above the table, each roller being rotatable on an axis which intersects with the vertical axis of the table. Each roller has an arcuate peripheral portion which forms part of a circle of curvature in cross section. The roller and the table rotate on their respective axes, and they are adapted to compress and mill material in the groove betweem them, a clearance which receives the material being formed between the peripheral portion of the roller and the groove. The roller has a wider axial dimension on the side which is inward radially of the table from a radial plane of the roller, this plane passing through the center of the circle of the peripheral part of the roller, than the axial dimension on the outward side of the table.

Vertical roller mill

A roller mill according to this invention includes a table adapted to be rotatably driven on a substantially vertical axis. The table is adapted to receive the material to be milled in a central area around the axis. The table has a substantially horizontal upper surface, and an annular groove is formed in the upper surface radially outwardly from the central area. The groove has a curved bottom surface. A least one roller is provided having an axis of rotation which is above the upper surface of the table and substantially intersects the table axis. The roller extends into and rolls in the groove and has an outer peripheral surface which is curved in cross section. The mill when in use has the table and the roller rotated, and the material extends into a clearance space formed between the peripheral surface of the roller and the bottom surface of the groove. The table has an annular overhang on the upper surface thereof adjacent the outer periphery of the groove to throttle the movement of the material out of the clearance space.

Roller mill

A calcining system wherein raw material is preheated by raw material preheating device for preheating the raw material by contact with a gas, calcined in a rotary kiln and cooled in a planetary cooler; a portion of cooling gas used for cooling the calcined material in the planetary cooler and heated thereby is led through an air extracting duct to the raw material preheating device and the rest of the heated cooling gas is introduced into the rotary kiln: and exhaust gases from the rotary kiln is led to the raw material preheating device. Such calcining system further includes a first damper mounted in a duct for discharging the exhaust gas from the raw material preheating device, a temperature sensor for sensing the temperature of calcined material discharged through an outlet of the planetary cooler, control device for controlling the degree of opening of the first damper when the temperature sensed by the temperature sensor rises to a high level, a second damper mounted in the air extracting duct, a gas sensor for sensing a gas component capable of indicating the condition of combustion in the rotary kiln, and control device for controlling the degree of opening of the second damper so as to bring the value of the gas component sensed by the gas sensor to a predetermined level. The flow rate of the cooling air can be controlled independently of the control of the flow rate of the air combustion, so that the temperature of the calcined material at the outlet of the planetary cooler can be kept at a predetermined level selected arbitrarily and the combustion in the rotary kiln and the calciner can be stabilized irrespective of changes in the conditions of operation.

Calcining system provided with a planetary cooler

Rotary drum type heat treatment apparatus having a rotary drum rotatable about a longitudinal axis. The drum has an outlet end and the apparatus includes a cooling section having a movable grate with one end disposed beneath the outlet end of the rotary drum for receiving material from the drum. The drum is provided at the outlet end with a plurality of circumferentially spaced distribution members, each of which has at least one side surface extending longitudinally outwardly beyond the outlet end and inclined with respect to a radial line of the drum for engagement with material being discharged through the outlet end to deflect the same.
