A through hole in a cylinder block through which a bolt is inserted to assemble the cylinder block and the front and rear housings as one body, and is positioned above a horizontal plane on which a drive shaft lies, is utilized as a part of a passage for a lubricating oil so that a sufficient lubrication is supplied to a thrust bearing and other elements, and thus an effective mass production of a swash type compressor can be carried out because it becomes unnecessary to form an oil passage in the drive shaft, which passage is difficult to machine.

Lubricating oil supplying mechanism in swash plate type compressor

A swash plate type compressor having a pair of axially combined front and rear cylinder blocks forming therein a plurality of cylinder bores, a swash plate chamber, and an oil chamber in which a lubricating oil is stored to be stirred by a swash plate rotatably received in the swash plate chamber, a drive shaft centrally rotatably mounted in the combined cylinder blocks to cause a rotation of the swash plate, a plurality of reciprocatory double-headed pistons slidably fitted in the cylinder bores and operatively engaged with the swash plate via shoe members to be reciprocated by the rotation of the swash plate, a pair of thrust bearings axially supporting the swash plate, front and rear housings having suction chambers for the refrigerant gas before compression and discharge chambers for the refrigerant gas after compression, the front housing further having a shaft sealing chamber formed therein and separated from the suction chamber thereof to define an intermediate pressure chamber between the high pressure swash plate chamber and the low pressure suction chamber of the front housing, a thin fluid passageway interconnecting the shaft sealing chamber with the suction chamber. The intermediate pressure chamber and the thin fluid passageway prevent evacuation of the lubricating oil from the swash plate chamber to the suction chamber even during the rotation of the compressor at a high speed, to thereby promote a lubrication of the thrust bearings, the shoes, and the swash plate.

A thrust bearing lubricating system of a swash plate type compressor having a main lubricating oil passageway bored in the center of a drive shaft on which a swash plate is mounted to be axially supported by a pair of front and rear thrust bearings, an oil pumping mechanism for pumping lubricating oil from an oil sump in the bottom of a cylinder block assembly and supplying the lubricating oil into the main lubricating oil passageway, and at least front and rear radial branch lubricating oil passageways formed in the drive shaft to be communicated with the main lubricating oil passageway and to allow spouting of the lubricating oil toward the front and rear thrust bearings, the front and rear radial branch lubricating oil passageways having different cross-sectional areas from one another to equalize an amount of lubricating oil supplied to both thrust bearings.

Swash plate type compressor with thrust bearing lubricator

A multi-cylinder piston-operated compressor having a combined cylinder block closed on both axial ends by front and rear housing and provided therein with a reciprocative piston mechanism, for sucking, compressing, and discharging a refrigerant gas, and a connecting flange, from which the refrigerant gas after compression is sent toward a cooling circuit. The connecting flange defines a muffling chamber in cooperation with a circumferential section of the combined cylinder block for suppressing the pulsation in discharge pressure of the refrigerant gas. The compressor further has a gas expansion chamber in which an expansion and a partial collision of the compressed refrigerant gas spouted from orifices take plate to weaken the pulsation in the discharge pressure of the gas with the least discharge loss.

A piston type compressor having a cylinder block in which a plurality of compression chambers permitting a plurality of pistons to be reciprocated so as to compress a refrigerant gas pumped from a suction chamber formed in an end housing into the compression chambers through suction ports of a valve plate, openably closed by a suction valve mechanism with a plurality of suction reed valves, and to discharge the compressed refrigerant gas from the compression chambers into a discharge chamber formed in the end housing through discharge ports of the valve plate, are openably closed by a discharge valve mechanism having a plurality of discharge reed valves. The suction and discharge reed valves of the suction and discharge valve mechanisms are prevented from undergoing complicated and irregular vibrations by an asymmetrical arrangement of the suction and discharge ports of the valve plate, or by provision of asymmetrical through-openings to adjust mechanical flexibility to the suction and discharge reed valves for both reed valves.

Piston type compressor for air conditioning unit having asymmetric valve

A piston type compressor having a cylinder block in which a plurality of compression chambers permit a plurality of pistons to be reciprocated so as to compress a refrigerant sucked from a suction chamber formed in an end housing into the compression chambers through suction ports of a valve plate openably closed by a plurality of suction reed valves. The compressor also has a valve stop construction for stopping the movement of the suction reed valves when the valves reach the opening position thereof apart from the valve plate. The valve stop construction includes recessed seats formed in an axial end face of the cylinder block so as to permit a portion of the free end of respective suction reed valves to be first seated on the recessed seats, and to permit the remaining portion of the free end of the suction reed valves to be stably seated on the recessed seats. The gradual stoppage of the suction reed valves suppresses vibration of the valves and prevents noise.
