A biocatalyst is immobilized with a graft product of a polymer and saponified polyvinyl acetate containing a stilbazolium group as a photo-crosslinking group. The polymer is preferably gelatin, collagen, starch, cellulose, gum arabic, tragacanth gum, carrageenan, mannan, dextrin or alginic acid. The graft product is prepared by bonding the polymer to the polyvinyl acetate, either directly through functional groups of the polymer and polyvinyl acetate or through a crosslinking agent. The polymer provides affinity for the biocatalyst and by grafting the polymer to the saponified polyvinyl acetate, damage to cells upon immobilization is reduced. A liquid composition containing a biocatalyst and the graft product is added to an aqueous solution of an inorganic salt or an organic salt to form a granular gel and the gel is irradiated with actinic rays to cure the gel.

The present invention relates to a color-former having microcapsules which comprise an electron-donating colorless dye dispersed in a hydrophobic liquid. The present invention provides a color-former using both an electron-donating colorless dye and a hydrophobic liquid which previously were unable to be used because of the lack of solubility. A uniform and stable dispersion of electron-donating colorless dye in a hydrophobic core liquid is prepared by using oil-soluble non-ionic surfactant.

The process of the present invention uses an aminoaldehyde polycondensate as capsule-wall and a hydrophobic core material dispersed in an aqueous acidic solution containing an anionic water-soluble colloidal substance, wherein it is characterized in that the anionic water-soluble colloidal substance comprises a mixture of an anionic water-soluble substance having a high viscosity and that having a low viscosity. The process of the present invention provides a slight viscosity rise in the encapsulation, a capsule slurry with a high concentration, low viscosity, and a slight smudging in the application as a pressure-sensitive recording sheet and the like, compared with the conventional processes.

The process for producing microcapsules comprises forming capsules having a wall film composed of an amine-aldehyde polycondensate in a system in which a hydrophobic core substance is dispersed or emulsified in an acid aqueous solution containing an anionic colloidal substance, said anionic colloidal substance being an anionic water-soluble copolymer composed of acrylic acid, styrenesulfonic acid, and alkyl acrylate or alkyl methacrylate. The present invention decreases the large particles present in the capsule slurry, and provides microcapsule which are excellent in emulsification power, emulsification stability, particle size distribution, impermeability of capsule-wall film and workability.

Continuous fermentation with yeast to produce alcohol is carried out by continuously passing a carbohydrate-containing substrate liquid through a vessel packed with a thin film means having yeast immobilized therein. Surfaces of the thin film means extend in the direction of flow within the vessel to provide elongated parallel passages. The thin film means occupies from 10 to 65% of the volume of the vessel and preferably has a thickness of 0.1 to 3 mm. Preferably, the thin film means is formed by mixing an aqueous yeast suspension with a photo-crosslinkable resin and subjecting the mixture to radiation to photo-crosslink the resin.
