A navigation system, which can determine a place suitable for meeting as a meeting place, is disclosed. This navigation system obtains positional information of mobile units, and extracts candidates for a meeting place from adequate meeting places registered in advance. The navigation system automatically selects or a user manually selects one place from the extracted candidates, and determines the selected one as the meeting place. The navigation system transmits the information about the meeting place to the other mobile units, so that the mobile units can meet each other at the right meeting place free from any place-caused inconvenience.

A car navigation system comprises a sound output means for selectively changing the voice sent to a speaker between male voice and female voice in accordance with the advancing direction of the vehicle. In addition, using a plurality of speakers, the voice guidance is given from a direction identical with the advancing direction of the vehicle. Furthermore, stereo sound generated from the speakers can be selectively attenuated in accordance with the advancing direction of the vehicle, so that the driver of a vehicle can intuitionally perceive or grasp the correct advancing direction of his/her driving vehicle, while listening stereo sounds.

Car navigation system

Traffic information items, for instance, jam information items, which are distant from the self vehicle position are displayed in a different manner from traffic information items near the self vehicle position. For example, a colored circle or a proper mark is displayed at a distant region containing traffic information items. Alternatively, part of distant traffic information items are not displayed. In a further alternative, the display color of distant traffic information items is made different from that of near traffic information items.

The motion signal detection method achieves splendid motion signal detection both from a video signal having an inter-frame difference signal of the same level as noise and a video signal obtained when a fine-patterned object moves in parallel translation. A video signal processing apparatus is provided for use with the above-mentioned motion signal detection method. The inter-frame difference signal obtained by a subtractor is input to the space expander circuit and then to a weighting coefficient generating circuit to obtain a weighting coefficient, and on the other hand, the inter-frame difference signal is input to an absolute value calculating circuit and a low pass filter, and the output signal is digitized by a quantizing circuit by using a quantizing parameter, which is controlled by the weighting coefficient.
