Provided is a secondary battery including an electrode assembly and an electrolyte enclosed in an exterior case. The electrode assembly includes a positive electrode, a negative electrode, and a separator disposed between the positive electrode and the negative electrode. The secondary battery includes a spacer positioned between the electrode assembly and the exterior case. The electrode assembly includes a positive electrode current collecting tab and a negative electrode current collecting tab protruding from the electrode assembly. The spacer includes a first recess for the positive electrode current collecting tab and a second recess for the negative electrode current collecting tab at an outer edge in plain view, and the first recess and the second recess are provided with a separation portion interposed therebetween.

Secondary battery

Provided is a secondary battery including an electrode assembly and an electrolyte enclosed in an exterior case. The electrode assembly includes a positive electrode, a negative electrode, and a separator disposed between the positive electrode and the negative electrode. The secondary battery includes a spacer positioned between the electrode assembly and an exterior case, and the electrode assembly includes current collecting tabs of a positive electrode and a negative electrode each protruding from the same end face. The spacer is positioned between an end face, of the electrode assembly, from which the current collecting tab protrudes and the exterior case, and at least one of the current collecting tabs of the positive electrode or the negative electrode has a bent shape between the electrode assembly and the spacer.

A manufacturing method of a secondary battery is provided to improve a manufacturing efficiency of a non-rectangular electrode. The manufacturing method is provided for a secondary battery and includes forming the non-rectangular electrode. The step of forming the electrode includes, prior to forming an electrode precursor by applying an electrode material layer raw material to a metal sheet material that becomes a current collector, controlling a wettability of a local portion of a surface of the metal sheet material to the electrode material layer raw material and forming a wettability control region in the local portion. The local portion becomes a cutaway region of the non-rectangular electrode.

A method of manufacturing a secondary battery is provided for manufacturing a secondary battery that includes an electrode winding body formed of a positive electrode and a negative electrode, and having a non-rectangular shape in planar view. In this manufacturing method, a positive electrode precursor and a negative electrode precursor are stacked on each other with a separator interposed therebetween to form an electrode precursor laminate, which is wound to form the electrode winding body. Moreover, the electrode precursor laminate has a comb-teeth shape in planar view, and winding is performed such that a winding axis for winding is substantially parallel to an extending direction of a terminal element of the secondary battery, whereby the electrode winding body is made non-rectangular.
