A neural network learning device includes a learning unit configured to perform a learning process that learns a neural network using a plurality of learning data sets. The learning process includes a data reading process, a synaptic weight correction process, a neuron generation process, and a neuron removal process. The neural network learning device includes an intermediate layer generation unit configured to perform an intermediate layer generation process. The intermediate layer generation process newly generates an additional intermediate layer including at least one neuron as an intermediate layer of the neural network when a loss function is greater than a predetermined second threshold value after the learning process is performed. When the additional intermediate layer is newly generated by the intermediate layer generation process, the learning unit performs the learning process again, using the neural network in which the additional intermediate layer has been generated.

A subject is to provide a pedestrian motion predicting device capable of accurately predicting a possibility of a rush out before a pedestrian actually begins to rush out. According to the embodiments, the pedestrian is detected from input image data, a portion in which the detected pedestrian is imaged is cut out from the image data, a shape of the pedestrian imaged in the cut-out partial image data is classified by collating the shape with a learning-finished identifier group or a pedestrian recognition template group, and the rush out of the pedestrian is predicted based on a result of the acquired classification.

A hybrid air-conditioner comprises a vapor adsorption cycle air-conditioner, a vapor compression refrigerating cycle air-conditioner, an external heat source circuit and the like. In the case where the external heat source temperature is in a high temperature range, the cooling operation is performed using only the vapor adsorption cycle air-conditioner. In the case where the external heat source temperature is in a low temperature range, the cooling operation is performed using only the vapor compression refrigerating cycle air-conditioner. In the case where the external heat source temperature is in an intermediate temperature range, the cooling operation is performed using both the vapor adsorption cycle air-conditioner and the vapor compression refrigerating cycle air-conditioner. As a result, the temperature restrictions on the vapor adsorption cycle air-conditioner can be removed and the range of operation allowance can be widened.

The process of the present invention is capable of mass-producing silicon carbide short fibers continuously in a short time.

A method for making fine powder of a metallic compound coated with ceramics is described. In the method, a gaseous mixture of at least one metal vapor constituting one component of a metallic compound and a carrier gas for the at least one metal vapor is passed at a speed of 50 to 2000 m/second into another element constituting the other element of the metallic compound or in an atmosphere of a gas containing the other element, which is heated to a temperature of not larger than 0.8 time as low as a melting point of the at least one metal so that the metal vapor and another element are reacted with each other while rapidly cooling, thereby obtaining a fine powder of a metallic compound. The metallic compound fine powder is further passed into other metal vapor or other metallic compound vapor to cover the metallic compound fine powder with the film of the other metal or metallic compound.

Method for making a fine powder of a metal compound having ceramic

A method for making ultra-fine ceramic particles, in which metal powder constituting a portion of the ultra-fine ceramic particles intended for production is injected at a rate of not less than 70 grams per minute into a plasma jet so that the metal powder is vaporized. The vaporized metal powder is then mixed with a reactive gas, which includes an element consituting the other portion of the ultra-fine ceramic particles, filled in the surrounding area of the plasma jet, and thereby the vaporized metal powder and the reactive gas produce a synthetic reaction. The ultra-fine ceramic particles are produced continuously because of the reaction flame.

Method for making ultra-fine ceramic particles

An improved method for resistance welding two metallic articles, made of dissimilar metals which form brittle intermetallic compounds when melted together. A first one of the metallic articles is provided with a tapered, flat-topped projection which is pressed against the other metallic article. The first article preferably is composed of the metal most difficult to melt, as determined by the four parameters of melting point, electrical resistance, heat conductivity and specific heat. The projection is formed with a predetermined relation between height, top width, and angle of taper such that a preselected extremely high welding current passed for a very short time will establish a maximum temperature near the top of the projection sufficient to melt the contacting surfaces of the two metallic articles and a temperature gradient such that an intermediate portion of the projection becomes markedly plastic while the adjacent base portion of the projection remains undeformable under extremely high welding pressure. Impurities and intermetallic compounds in the molten metal at the top of the projection are squeezed out to the periphery of the surfaces to be welded, and the weld joint is made between plastic but unmelted metal of the projection and the other article.
