An image forming system includes an image forming unit, a measurement unit, a correction unit, and an inhibition unit. The image forming unit forms an image. The measurement unit measures densities of a plurality of density patches formed by the image forming unit. The correction unit performs a density correction for the image forming unit based on the densities of the plurality of density patches measured by the measurement unit. The inhibition unit determines whether or not the densities of the plurality of the density patches are normal based on at least one of the densities of the plurality of density patches, and, if the densities are determined not to be normal, inhibits the correction unit from performing a density correction based on the densities of the plurality of density patches determined to be not normal.

A printer has a backed-up memory unit for storing an optional emulation program. A CPU performs an installation of the optional emulation program contained in an emulation cartridge which is inserted in an expansion slot. The optional emulation program thus installed can be used to interpret control codes and print data relayed to the printer from a host computer.

A printer makes a decision as to whether data has been received from a host computer and whether the received data is either a control code or print data. When data is not received from the host computer or the received data is a control code, which is related to a print non-executing process, a CPU gives an instruction to a power source, when such a state continues for a predetermined time interval, to thereby bring a fixing device to a power-saved state wherein the power supplied to the fixing device is controlled. When the received data is print data for a print executing process, the CPU instructs the power source to supply the power to the fixing device so that the fixing device is reset to a fixing-operation enable state. Thus, the supply of the power to the fixing device is switched according to the kind of data inputted from the host computer so as to reduce the total power consumed during operation.

In the page printer of this invention, a sheet is discharged and an error occurrence is displayed on a display unit when an over-run error occurs during a printing operation. Subsequently, the print data of the 1/n portion of the page which was being converted to dot image data at the error-occurrence time is developed into dot image data and stored into a RAM together with an error-occurrence position. The print data is re-converted to the dot image data and printed. When the printing operation reaches the error-occurrence position stored in the RAM, the dot image data stored in the RAM is transmitted to a video RAM, and the printing operation is continued. Therefore, this page printer can automatically carry out the re-printing operation when an over-run error occurs.

A perfecting printer for performing a double-face printing operation of printing images on obverse and reverse faces of at least one sheet on the basis of a series of print data input from an external device and a method for controlling the double-face printing operation of the printer. The perfecting printer includes a page memory having an empty area for storing a series of print data for the obverse and reverse faces of the sheet input from external device, and a control unit for judging as to whether the empty area is no longer available in the page memory while the series of print data are being stored into the page memory and forcibly printing print data for the obverse face of the sheet on the sheet when it is judged that the empty area is no longer available in the page memory and that only the print data for the obverse face of the sheet are completely stored in the page memory.

A perfecting printer for performing a double-face printing operation of printing images on obverse and reverse faces of at least one sheet on the basis of a series of print data inputted from an external device and a method for controlling the double-face printing operation of the printer. The perfecting printer includes a page memory for storing as page data at least both of the first and second print data in the series of the print data, and a control unit for printing the first and second print data on both of the obverse and reverse faces of the sheet when it is judged that the page data to be printed on the reverse face of the sheet exists in the memory and promptly printing only the first print data on the obverse face of the sheet when it is judged that the page data to be printed on the reverse face of the sheet does not exist in the memory.
