Disclosed is a method for manufacturing an organic EL element, which has, on a supporting substrate, at least one intermediate electrode layer, and at least two light emitting units, each of which has one or a plurality of organic functional layers, the intermediate electrode layer being disposed between the light emitting units. The method is characterized in having: a first patterning step wherein at least one organic functional layer of each of the light emitting units is patterned using a mask; and a second patterning step wherein at least one organic functional layer in each of the light emitting units is patterned into, by means of light irradiation, a region where a light emitting function is modulated, and a region where the light emitting function is not modulated. The method is also characterized in that the second patterning step is performed for each light emitting unit that is manufactured.

There is described a molding method for molding a product, having a microscopic structure of high aspect ratio. The molding method includes the steps of: setting a temperature of a mold, having a microscopic shape, at a value higher than a glass transition temperature of a material being deformable with heat; pushing the mold against the material at a first velocity, after the material is positioned opposite to the mold so that the microscopic shape contacts the material; pushing the mold against the material at a second velocity being faster than the first velocity; and releasing the mold from the material. The pushing pressure for pushing the mold against the material at the first velocity is equal to or smaller than a half of that for pushing the mold against the material at the second velocity.

In a coating apparatus, a nozzle connects a feed pipe for feeding a coat solution to a manifold of a die with an opening of the manifold. The nozzle satisfies conditions: 1.5&lE;B/A&lE;5.0 and 0.8&lE;C/B&lE;8.0, when A is an equivalent diameter of an end of the nozzle to be connected with the tube, B is an equivalent diameter of another end of the nozzle to be connected with the opening, and C is a length of the nozzle. The coat solution fed from the feed pipe enters in the nozzle. In the nozzle, the coating solution diverges along with an inner wall of the nozzle to enter into the manifold. In the manifold the coating solution flows in a widthwise direction and flows out through a slit extending from the manifold to a lip of the die, such that a moving web is coated with the coating solution uniformly.

An apparatus to be appended to a rotary printing press for binding successive stacks of printings with a thermally fusible paper band. Included is a band looper for loosely looping the band around a load on a platform. After having been tightened against the load, the band has its lapping parts heated by a band heater into a fused joint and is cut off from its continuous supply. A heater control circuit is provided for causing the band heater to be normally energized for a preassigned period of time at regular intervals during the operation of the apparatus, keeping the heater heated to a temperature necessary for melting the thermoplastic overlay of the paper band. After the heater has heated the band on each load, the heater control circuit causes the heater to be energized for a longer period of time which is enough to compensate for a temperature drop due to the heating of the band.
