The safety seat belt system comprises an emergency-locking type seat belt retractor (ELR) mounted within a tiltable backrest of a reclining seat. The ELR is mounted rotatably on a support shaft horizontally extending within the backrest and rigidly secured to the backrest frame in such a manner that the ELR is suspended vertically from the support shaft regardless of any change in the angle of the backrest. The ELR is locked to the support shaft by a releasable locking mechanism operated by an actuating mechanism which is preferably linked to the reclining adjustment lever of the backrest reclining mechanism.

Built-in type safety seat belt system for reclining vehicle seat

An emergency locking retractor (ELR) for a safety seat belt system provided with a slack-take-up spring operable to instantaneously bias a belt retracting reel to take-up a slack in the seat belt in an emergency situation of the vehicle. The retractor is further provided with a rewinding mechanism including an electric motor for rewinding the slack-take-up spring after the spring energy thereof has been released. Switching circuits for automatically energizing the electric motor are also possible.

A lock-type seat belt retractor including a ratchet mechanism, an inertia member which senses shock to the automobile, and a transmitting mechanism which transmits a movement of the inertia member to a pawl of the ratchet mechanism. The inertia member senses the shock by its relative motion to the transmitting mechanism. The transmitting mechanism includes a rod which moves in response to movement of the inertia member and pushes up a lever to raise the pawl. When the pawl engages with a tooth of a ratchet wheel, the seat belt is locked. The transmitting mechanism further includes a member which supports the rod and the inertia member. The support member swings relative to the automobile body so that this retractor can be locked reliably regardless of its angular position.

An occupant retaining webbing is wound up to a take-up shaft supported on a frame, a ratchet wheel is secured to said take-up shaft, and a pawl tiltingly movably supported on the frame and is engaged with the ratchet wheel to thereby stop wind-out of the webbing. Said take-up shaft pivotally supports a working plate which guides a balancer provided thereon with a pair of pawls, and due to the operation of an acceleration detector either one of the pawls is engaged with the ratchet wheel, whereby the working plate tilts the pawl to be engaged with the ratchet wheel.

A webbing retractor in a safety seatbelt system, wherein the webbing is wound up by a take-up shaft through a biasing force and wherein the retractor is provided with a sensor for sensing the vibrations of the vehicle and a locking device actuated by the sensor to prevent the windup force of the take-up shaft from being applied to the webbing whereby pleasant fitness is obtained when the vehicle runs on a bad road.

A seatbelt retractor including a frame, a retracting shaft rotatably coupled to the frame which retracts a seatbelt thereon, a locking gear coupled to the retracting shaft, a first and a second pawl provided adjacent to the locking gear and independently rotatably coupled to the frame such that when the first and second pawl rotate they engage with the locking gear and prevent rotation of the retracting shaft in the extending direction. A rocker arm pivotably supported at a pivot point and having a first catch pin at one end thereof which engages with a portion of the first pawl and a second catch pin at the other end thereof which engages with a portion of the second pawl such that the first pawl is caused to engage with the locking gear when the rocker arm rotates in one direction about the pivot point and such that the second pawl is caused to engage with the locking gear when the rocker arm rotates in the other direction about the pivot point and an acceleration sensing member which causes the pivot point to move during a motor vehicle emergency such that at least one of the first and second pawl is caused to rotate.
