An image reading device includes transparent plate member, reading portion, support member, and adjustment mechanism. The transparent plate member is an elongated plate extending in a second direction perpendicular to a first direction, and is in contact with a reading surface of a document sheet when the document sheet is moved in the first direction during an automatic document sheet reading. The reading portion is disposed below the transparent plate member. The support member supports a lower surface of the transparent plate member at two support points separated in the second direction. The adjustment mechanism biases an extension end portion, extending outward from one of the support points, of the support member in a downward direction opposite to the supporting direction of the support member, and adjusts a distance between the transparent plate member and the reading portion by changing a biasing force applied to the extension end portion.

In the first prism, an angle of a prism incident plane with respect to the main scanning direction is greater than an angle of a prism anti-incident plane with respect to the main scanning direction. An image reading apparatus includes a light guide arranged between a light source and a document. The light guide has a light incident surface at a side of the light source, light from the light source, is incident, a first light emitting surface at a side of the document, a second light emitting surface different from the first light emitting surface, a first reflecting surface between the first and second light emitting surfaces, a second reflecting surface between the light incident surface and the second light emitting surface, and a third reflecting surface facing the second reflecting surface. The first reflecting surface reflects light toward the first light emitting surface. The second reflecting surface reflects light toward one of the second light emitting surface and the first and third reflecting surfaces. The third reflecting surface reflects light toward the second light emitting surface or the first reflecting surface.

The image reading device suppresses uneven intensity of light emitted on a subject, by disposing a diffusion plate between the subject and a plurality of luminescence portions, and an image forming device that includes this image reading device. A light-collective member () for collecting a light outputted from a light source (), which irradiates a light toward a document surface, toward a sub-scanning direction is provided in front of the light source (). An illuminating portion which is so formed that each of opposite end surfaces () in the main scanning direction of the light-collective member () has an obtuse angle with respect to a bottom surface () facing the light source ().

By reading an image of a reference plate, whether or not a likeliness that a linear abnormal image is occurred in the image of the document due to a foreign matter and the like attached on a contact glass exists is determined. In the case where there is the likeliness of occurrence of the linear abnormal image, the occurrence of the abnormal image is suppressed by changing an image reading position. At this time, a reading sensitivity is measured by reading a reference document having a single white color instead of a normal document. An adjustment data is generated according to the measurement result and stored in a memory. Then, light quantity of an exposure lamp is regulated in accordance with the document reading position by using the adjustment data.

Image reading device

An electrostatic latent image-developing device includes a toner cartridge provided with a container having a toner discharge opening, a toner contained in the container and a sealing tape for sealing the toner discharge opening, and a toner cartridge-holding device having a toner-receiving opening and allowing detachable mounting of the toner cartridge. The toner cartridge is equipped with a shutter member that is disposed on one edge side of the toner discharge opening and is so constituted as to move to the other edge side across the toner discharge opening to cover the toner discharge opening. The toner cartridge-holding device is equipped with a shutter-moving device which moves the front edge of the shutter member from one edge side to the other edge side of the toner discharge opening.

Electrostatic latent image-developing device and toner cartridge used

An opening for discharging toner is formed in a lower part of a cartridge body containing toner. A shutter mounting body is mounted on the opening. A first shutter is slidably mounted on the shutter mounting body. A second shutter is slidably mounted on the first shutter. A front end of a sealing member for sealing the opening is extended, the extended front end being inserted through a seal traction opening formed in a front end of the second shutter, and fixed to a front end of the first shutter. When the second shutter is pulled out of the shutter mounting body, the sealing member is towed by the seal traction opening. In addition, the first shutter is further towed by the sealing member, to be also pulled out. Consequently, nearly half of the sealing member from its front end is stripped. When the second shutter is further pulled out after the movement of the first shutter is regulated, the seal traction opening in the second shutter tows the sealing member while allowing the insertion of the sealing member. At this time, the sealing member is stripped while being so folded that a toner adhering surface is located in its inside. In this construction, the stroke for stripping is decreased, thereby to make it possible to prevent contamination by toner as well as prevent a large part of the sealing member from being ineffective.

Method of stripping a sealing member from a toner cartridge

It is a major object of the present invention to break down and level a heap-up of toner built in the hopper through dropping from the cartridge when feeding toner into the hopper and to prevent toner from leakage from the cartridge due to erroneous operation with a remarkably simple and cheap construction. Namely, the leveling member moves a plurality of number of times in line with engaging and disengaging operation of the cartridge for the hopper and opening and closing operation of the cartridge in the same direction of the shutter, thereby causing a heap-up of toner built in the hopper housing of the hopper to be effectively broken down and leveled. Furthermore, only when the shutter is in its closed status for the cartridge, the cartridge can be removed from the opening of the hopper.
