A diesel engine exhaust treatment device includes an exhaust flow divider in an exhaust path. The flow divider causes exhaust to flow EGR gas with PM unevenly distributed and remaining discharged gas in a divided manner. EGR gas is recirculated to a combustion chamber, and the discharged gas is atmospherically discharged. First and second corona discharge passages are provided at the exhaust flow divider. Corona discharge in the first discharge passage causes the PM, water vapor, and oxygen in the exhaust to generate electron attachment. Electrostatic force causes the exhaust to flow the EGR gas with the electron-attached PM, water vapor, and oxygen unevenly distributed and the remaining discharged gas in a divided manner. The discharged gas is guided to the second discharge passage. Corona discharge in the second discharge passage causes gas molecules in the discharged gas to dissociate, and NOx in the discharged gas is reduced to nitrogen.

The present invention provides a multi-cylinder engine capable of inhibiting an EGR cooler from being damaged and at the same time making the EGR cooler compact. On the assumption that a direction where a crank shaft spans is taken as a front and rear direction and a widthwise direction of a cylinder head perpendicular to this front and rear direction is deemed as a lateral direction, an intake-air distributing passage wall is attached to one lateral side surface of the cylinder head and an exhaust-gas converging passage wall ached to the other lateral side of the cylinder head, the exhaust-gas converging passage wall having an interior area communicated with an interior area of the intake-air distributing passage wall through the EGR cooler. In this multi-cylinder engine, an intake-air inlet pipe is made to stand up at an upper portion of the intake air distributing passage wall and the EGR cooler is above the intake-air distributing passage wall. The present invention relates to an engine and a method for producing the engine. The engine is constructed as follows. The engine interlockingly operates a pump () for feeding fuel under pressure, by power of a crank shaft (). A pair of gears () and () are arranged to be attached to a gear attaching shaft (). The paired gears () and () are attached to the gear attaching shaft (). At least one gear () of the paired gears () and () constitutes a gear train () through which the power of the crank shaft () is transmitted to the pump (). The method for producing the engine is constructed as follows. The method uses a common part for each of the gear trains () and () so as to produce engines of an injection pump specification and a common rail specification and alternatively manufactures the gear trains () and () through the common part. It comprises attaching a pair of gears () and () to a gear attaching shaft () of the engine of every specification, making one gear () of the paired gears () and () serve as a basic gear and the other gear () serve as a second gear, employing the basic gear () as the common part for each of the gear trains () and () and alternatively manufactures the gear trains () and () of the engines of the respective specifications through the basic gear () of the common part.

The present invention relates to such an engine as mentioned below. The engine comprises a belt transmission device () which interlockingly operates a cooling fan () and a timing transmission device () which interlockingly actuates a fuel injection pump (). The belt transmission device () and the timing transmission device () are dividedly arranged at a front end and a rear end of a cylinder block (), respectively. The fuel injection pump () is arranged on one horizontal side of the cylinder block () and a belt tensioner () of the belt transmission device () is disposed in front of the fuel injection pump ().
