An engine starting control apparatus is basically provided with a motor control section, a valve timing control section and a start control section. The motor control section is configured to operate an electric motor to crank an engine with an output of the electric motor being adjustable. The valve timing control section is configured to operate a variable valve operating mechanism when the engine is started to change at least a close timing of an intake valve of the engine from an initial timing to a start timing such that the start timing is set closer to an intake bottom dead center during a single engine start as compared to the initial timing. The start control section is configured to adjust the output of the electric motor as the close timing of the intake valve changes from the initial timing to the start timing during the single engine start.

Engine starting control apparatus

An engine starting control apparatus is basically provided with a motor control section, a valve timing control section and a start control section. The motor control section is configured to operate an electric motor to crank an engine with an output of the electric motor being adjustable. The valve timing control section is configured to operate a variable valve operating mechanism when the engine is started to change at least a close timing of an intake valve of the engine from an initial timing corresponding to a state in which the engine is stopped to a start timing for starting the engine. The start control section is configured to adjust the output of the electric motor as the close timing of the intake valve changes from the initial timing to the start timing.

An engine intake valve timing control apparatus includes a fuel injection control section, a valve open timing control section, and a valve timing change rate setting section. The fuel injection control section is configured to control a fuel injection quantity of fuel injected from a fuel injector into an intake port of an engine in accordance with an operating condition of the engine. The valve open timing control section is configured to control an open timing of an intake valve to a target open timing. The valve timing change rate setting section sets a change rate at which the open timing of the intake valve is changed from a current open timing to the target open timing when the target open timing is updated, the change rate being set using a parameter relating to a vaporization rate of the fuel adhered to the intake port.

Engine intake valve timing control apparatus

An engine starting method includes maintaining a rotation speed of a crankshaft of an engine rotated by a motor at a first rotation speed, supplying fuel to the engine and igniting the fuel while the crankshaft is rotated by the motor at the first rotation speed, determining whether the fuel has been ignited in the engine, and maintaining the rotation speed of the crankshaft rotated at least by the motor at a second rotation speed that is greater than the first rotation speed upon determining that the fuel has been ignited.

Engine starting method and engine starting device

An internal combustion engine and control method therefor in which the engine is selectively started by combustion without cranking. The temperature in the combustion chamber of an engine cylinder is stabilized upon starting of the engine, thereby allowing secured staring without cranking. When predetermined idling stop conditions (or engine stop conditions) are established, the temperature in the combustion chamber is estimated based on engine operating conditions read before such establishment, and the period of maintaining a engine rotational speed in a predetermined low range before stopping the engine is calculated or estimated based on the estimated temperature in the combustion chamber. The engine is then stopped after the calculated or estimated period of maintaining the engine rotational speed in the predetermined low range.

Internal combustion engine and control method therefor

An engine control device is configured to cause an engine to operate at the optimum combustion mode according to the load when warming up of an emissions purification catalyst is required, and to obtain reduced HC discharged from the engine and accelerated warm-up of the catalyst. The engine control device performs stratified combustion with a compression stroke injection in a low-load region according to the engine load, and performs double-injection combustion with an intake stroke injection and a compression stroke injection in an intermediate load region, when warming up of the catalyst is required. In a high-load region, the engine control device performs homogenous combustion with an intake stroke injection.

Direct fuel injection/spark ignition engine control device

A four-stroke cycle in-cylinder fuel injection internal combustion engine () comprises a fuel injector () which injects fuel directly into a combustion chamber (), performs stratified charge combustion by means of compression stroke fuel injection, and performs homogeneous combustion by means of intake stroke fuel injection. Upon start-up of the engine (), intake stroke fuel injection is performed at the first combustion opportunity, and compression stroke fuel injection is switched to from the second combustion opportunity onward. In so doing, switching of the combustion system is performed early and independently of the engine rotation speed.

Start-up control of in-cylinder fuel injection internal combustion engine

An engine control device is configured to perform optimum combustion control according to environmental conditions when warming up of a catalyst for emission purification is required. The engine control device performs stratified combustion by the compression stroke injection at the time of startup, when warming up of the catalyst is required. However, under conditions of low air density, stratified combustion by compression stroke injection is prevented, and either homogenous combustion by intake stroke injection is performed, or double injection combustion by intake stroke injection and compression stroke injection is performed. Thus, the engine control device maintains starting properties and prevents adverse effects on engine operability.

An engine system is capable of switching between a first fuel injection mode, in which fuel is injected from a fuel injection valvedirectly into a combustion chamberin the compression stroke, and a second fuel injection mode, in which fuel is injected from the fuel injection valvedirectly into the combustion chamberin the intake stroke. A controllerdetermines the characteristic of the fuel that is supplied to the fuel injection valve, selects either the first fuel injection mode or the second fuel injection mode according to the fuel characteristic, and starts an enginein the selected fuel injection mode.

Direct injection engine system and start-up method for direct injection engine

During start-up of an in-cylinder fuel injection spark ignition engine (), an engine controller () calculates a start-up fuel injection pulse width TIST on the basis of a cooling water temperature Tw, an engine rotation speed Ne, and a fuel supply pressure Pf to a fuel injector () (S). When the fuel supply pressure Pf exceeds a required fuel pressure, the engine controller () executes stratified combustion by means of compression stroke fuel injection. By setting the required fuel pressure precisely in accordance with a start-up condition defined by the start-up fuel injection pulse width TIST and the engine rotation speed Ne, the opportunities for stratified combustion during start-up increase, and the amount of hydrocarbon discharge decreases.

Start-up control of in-cylinder fuel injection spark ignition internal combustion engine

A start-up control device of a direct injection engine has a fuel injector () for injecting fuel into the engine; and a controller. The controller is programmed to determine the presence of a learned value for calculating on the basis thereof a fuel injection amount during start-up of the engine () by means of a stratified charge combustion operation; calculate the fuel injection amount on the basis of the learned value when the learned value is present, and control the fuel injector () to inject fuel in the compression stroke to start up the engine () by means of a stratified charge combustion operation; and control the fuel injector () to inject fuel in the intake stroke of the engine to start up the engine by means of a homogeneous combustion operation when the learned value is absent, and obtain and store the learned value during the homogeneous combustion operation of the engine.

Start-up control of direct injection engine

Engine cranking control is ended when it is detected that the battery voltage for driving the starter is lowered to at least as low as a starter drive judgment value and thereafter, returns to at least a starter stop judgment value during the engine cranking control that is started on condition that an engine is rotating. A start for driving a starter and a stop of driving the starter can be distinguished based on battery voltage where the battery voltage recovers due to a rapid reduction of consuming current and a rapid increase of a generating current when a driver recognizes an engine combustion completion and stops a starter driving. As a result, on increase of an engine friction, the cranking control is accurately ended, preventing deterioration of a fuel economy and excess exhaust gas emission.

Apparatus and a method for controlling an engine

An invention that judges whether an engine is being cranked by a starter based on the conditions that a prior cranking control has ended, the engine rotates at or less than a limit rotation velocity leading to an engine stall, and a battery voltage falls to or below a predetermined value. When such conditions are met, then engine cranking control is started. The engine can be shifted to the cranking control without an input signal from a starter switch and the engine can be promptly cranked.

A combustion control system controls combustion in a direct fuel injection spark ignition engine that maintains a constant pressure in an accumulator when fuel is not being injected. The combustion control system controls combustion when fuel injection is resumed after being temporarily stopped. The combustion control system has a target fuel pressure acquiring section that acquires a target fuel pressure based on an engine rotational speed and an engine load, an actual fuel pressure detecting section that the actual fuel pressure, a timing acquiring section, and a first timing control section. The timing acquiring section acquires the fuel injection timing and ignition timing (50 and 30 degrees BTDC) based on the rotational speed and load. The first timing control section controls the fuel injection timing and the ignition timing based on actual fuel pressure, e.g., retards the fuel injection and ignition timings to 40 and 25 degrees BTDC.

Direct fuel injection combustion control system

In combustion control apparatus and method for a spark-ignited internal combustion engine, a counter is set to correspond to a drive time duration from a time at which a combustion drive state of the engine is started to be in a stratified combustion drive state to a time immediately before a smolder of a spark plug occurs in a state of which a spark is emitted between an outer electrode of the spark plug and a carbon deposited on an insulator porcelain thereof, a determination of whether it reaches to a time at which the stratified combustion drive state is inhibited is executed on the basis of a value of the counter, and the combustion drive state is forcibly switched from the stratified combustion drive state to a homogeneous combustion drive state when such a determination is carried out that it reaches to the time at which the stratified combustion drive state is inhibited.
