The present invention discloses a magnetic head which allows smooth filling of a non-magnetic material such as glass, and can prevent bubbles from generating within the such non-magnetic material, which comprises a slide-contact plane with which a magnetic recording medium comes into contact, which is provided on a magnetic core; a magnetic gap provided in the slide-contact plane by forming thereon at least a magnetic film; a groove portion provided at one end or each of both ends of the magnetic gap so as to be aligned approximately in parallel to a moving direction of the magnetic recording medium; and a non-magnetic material provided in the groove portion, wherein the groove portion has a non-magnetic oxide film and a chromium film formed on an inner surface thereof and has the non-magnetic material formed on the chromium film so as to fill the groove portion.

A magnetic head having a recording and/or reproducing magnetic gap and an erasing magnetic gap for writing and/or reading informational signals on and/or from a flexible disk is disclosed. A magnetic circuit comprises a front core having center cores and side cores and a rear core. The front core is sandwiched between a pair of sliders for assuring contact with the flexible disk. At least one of the sliders is provided with core reinforcing portions in positions corresponding to the cores and the side cores of the front core. The core reinforcing portions are in contact with the center cores and the side cores for reinforcing these cores.

A method for manufacture of a bulk-type magnetic head capable of performing a frame recording operation. A pair of magnetic core blocks with magnetic gaps formed in butt surfaces thereof are slit and comb-toothed to produce a pair of head element couplers, and such element couplers are joined to each other in a state where the comb-toothed portions of one coupler are inserted into the slits in the other coupler while the respective coupling portions are butted to each other, whereby the in-line precision of the magnetic gaps can be enhanced.
