Radiographic images for different imaging directions taken by applying radiation to a subject from the different imaging directions are obtained, and a plurality of first tomographic images having a first slice thickness are generated based on the obtained plurality of radiographic images and a plurality of second tomographic images having a second slice thickness that is greater than the first slice thickness are generated based on the radiographic images. Then, MinIP processing is applied to the first tomographic images to generate a MinIP image, and MIP processing is applied to the second tomographic images to generate a MIP image. Then, combining processing is performed using the MinIP image and the MIP image to generate a composite image.

Radiographic images for different imaging directions taken by applying radiation to a subject from the different imaging directions are obtained, and a plurality of tomographic images of the subject are generated based on the obtained plurality of radiographic images. An input of an evaluation object image signal representing an evaluation object image with respect to a pattern composed of a plurality of evaluating regions, in each of which at least one signal area is located at a predetermined position, is accepted. The positions of the signal areas, which are located in all of the evaluating regions in the evaluation object image, are detected in accordance with a reference image signal, which represents a reference image with respect to the pattern, and the evaluation object image signal. The evaluation object image is evaluated in accordance with the results of the detection of the positions of the signal areas.

When image data are compressed, a degree of image quality degradation can be recognized. At the time of compressing the image data, compression information is added as tag information in a file header of the image data. In this manner, by referring to the compression information, compression history of the compressed image data can be understood, and a degree of image quality degradation of the image data obtained by decompressing the compressed image data can be known.
