A control apparatus for a motor-generator includes a stator including multi-phase coils, a rotor, a multi-phase inverter one arm of which includes a switch element and a free-wheeling element, and a power supply connected between a neutral point of the coils and a negative electrode of the inverter. When the switch elements are driven by rectangular wave, the low-side switch element connected to the high-side switch element is subject to PWM switching control while the high-side switch element is off. When a time point, at which the high-side switch element is turned off, is defined as a base point, if &#x3b1; is defined as a time when switching of the low-side switch element starts, and &#x3b2; is defined as a time when the switching ends, &#x3b2;-&#x3b1; is 120 degrees in electrical degree or more, &#x3b1; is more than 0 degrees, and &#x3b2; is less than 180 degrees.

Control apparatus for motor-generator

An electric rotating machine includes a multi-phase armature coil that is wound around a cylindrical armature core in a distributed winding manner. Each of phase windings of the armature coil is formed of an electric wire bundle which includes a plurality of insulation-coated electric wires that are electrically connected to one another. Each of the electric wire bundles forming the phase windings has a plurality of in-slot portions and a plurality of turn portions. Each of the in-slot portions is received in a corresponding slot of the armature core. Each of the turn portions protrudes from a corresponding axial end face of the armature core and extends to connect a corresponding adjacent pair of the in-slot portions of the electric wire bundle. For each of the electric wire bundles, the electric wires of the electric wire bundle are stranded at least at the turn portions of the electric wire bundle.

Electric rotating machine

An electric rotating machine includes a multi-phase stator coil that is wound on a stator core in a distributed winding manner. Each of phase windings of the stator coil is formed of an electric wire bundle which includes a plurality of insulation-coated electric wires that are electrically connected to one another. Each of the electric wire bundles forming the phase windings has in-slot portions, which are respectively received in corresponding slots of the stator core, and turn portions that are located outside the slots of the stator core to connect adjacent pairs of the in-slot portions. Each of the electric wire bundles further includes a plurality of insulating layers that are respectively formed at predetermined positions, at which the turn portions of the electric wire bundle overlap those of the other electric wire bundles, so as to surround the electric wires of the electric wire bundle.

A motor-generator has a stator including an annular stator core and stator windings wound on the stator core, an annular inner rotor located radially inward of the stator core, and an annular outer rotor located radially outward of the stator core. Each of the inner and outer rotors is made of a soft magnetic material or magnetic steel. The stator core consists of a plurality of stator core segments each being in the form of a tooth. The stator windings are wound on the stator core in a continuous distributed winding manner at a predetermined winding pitch. The outer rotor consists of a plurality of outer rotor segments each of which is magnetically polarized to have opposite polarities on opposite circumferential ends thereof. Each of the outer rotor segments is offset from the inner rotor by a predetermined electrical angle that corresponds to the winding pitch of the stator windings.

In a direct cranking electric rotary machine as an axial air-gap motor having an improved configuration mounted on a vehicle, a stator is faced to an end part on a surface of a rotor. The rotor also acts as a flywheel for an engine mounted on the vehicle. The length of a circumference of the stator is limited below 180 deg. of its entire circumference. This configuration enables a repair man to easily detach and repair components forming the direct cranking electric rotary machine.

In a motor-generator control system for controlling a motor-generator, first and second sets of multiphase windings of a motor-generator are arranged to be spatially shifted in phase from each other. An allocating unit is configured to, upon input of workload request for the motor-generator, determine a first torque to be allocated to the first set of multiphase windings and a second torque to be allocated to the second set of multiphase windings. A resultant torque of the first torque and second torque meets the input workload request for the motor-generator. An energizing unit is configured to energize the first set of multiphase windings to create the first torque and energize the second set of multiphase windings to create the second torque.

Motor-generator control system

An engine starter includes a starter motor which has an armature, a series-wound field coil and a parallel-wound field coil and a short-circuiting unit for short-circuiting the series-wound field coil under a predetermined engine starting condition. The series-wound field coil has a suitable current limiting resistance. The short-circuiting unit short-circuits the series-wound field coil after a crankshaft of an engine passes a first top dead center of an engine.

An EL device includes a control unit that controls a driving circuit so that a plurality of EL elements emits light several times per driving cycle. As a result, since the amount of light integrated per time increases, the plurality of EL elements obtains high luminous power even if a plurality of El elements having a very short emission decay time is used.

Simplifying a control system by integrating current control for an exciting coil and a main current control for a starter motor is accomplished by a current control unit for a starter motor and is constructed with a control device provided among a battery, a motor contact point and an exciting coil, and a starter ECU for driving the control device. The control device has a device capacity for allowing main current of the starter motor. The starter ECU changes a control specification for the control device before and after closing the motor contact point. That is, control-start timing of a coil current is determined by a battery voltage before closing the motor contact point. Thereafter, the coil current is restricted to a predetermined value to reduce a moving speed of a plunger. After closing the motor contact point, the main current is slowly raised.

Engine starter

An engine starter system includes a current switching device for controlling an armature current, a shorting relay for electrically shorting the current switching device, and an electronic control circuit. In a normal starting mode, the electronic control circuit gradually increases the armature current by varying a duty ratio of the current switching device. When the armature current becomes larger than an allowable current value of the current switching device, an armature is energized through the shorting relay. In an economy-running starting mode, the armature current is controlled through the current switching device until the engine is completely started.

An engine-starting apparatus includes an electric motor and an overrunning clutch that transmits a rotational torque of the electric motor to an internal combustion engine. A coupling speed for re-coupling the clutch for re-cranking the engine while it is still rotating by the inertia is set to a point where an inertial speed of the engine becomes equal to or a little higher than an inertial speed of the electric motor. The electric motor is switched on again when its speed decreases to the coupling speed or lower. In this manner, shocks and noises generated in the re-coupling of the clutch are avoided, and the engine can be smoothly re-cranked while it is still rotating by its inertia.

The present invention provides an engine starting method from an idling stop condition wherein a preliminary step pushes a pinion to abut with a ring gear when a vehicle operating condition is in an idling stop condition, a starting step rotates the pinion into mesh with the ring gear by a motor upon receiving an engine start signal and thereafter an engine is started, and a restoring step is carried out after engine startup where the pinion is restored to an original position thereof. Also provided, when the engine is stopped, a pinion is meshed with a ring gear. Upon engine start-up, a pinion actuator disengages the pinion from the ring gear and a cutout portion engages an engaging piece to maintain the pinion disengaged. When the engine stops, a releasing actuator disengages the cutout portion and the engaging piece and the pinion is reset.

A starter control system is comprised of a starter motor, a control circuit for controlling the starter motor to rotate at a preliminary rotation speed that is high enough to engage a pinion with an engine for a predetermined time and low enough to suppress a harsh noise caused when the pinion engages the engine and, thereafter, at a normal rotation speed that is high enough to start the engine, and a control circuit for changing the preliminary rotation speed according to an engine temperature. The starter control system is effective to reduce noises that are caused when the engine is started by an economy-run system.
