Disclosed are an optical element holder and an optical communication module. The optical element holder comprises a pedestal having a pair of fixing sections, a pair of holding sections and a stress-suppressing section. The fixing sections are formed in opposing end portions of the pedestal for being welded to a carrier. The holding sections are formed to face the pedestal in an inner position than positions where the fixing sections are formed so as to hold the optical element by pinching it therebetween. The stress-suppressing section prevents a welding stress, which is generated when the fixing sections are welded to the carrier, from affecting the holding sections.

Optical element holder and optical communication module

Provided are a semiconductor laser module and a method of assembling the same. The semiconductor laser module comprises a first semiconductor optical element and a second semiconductor optical element as a pair and a lens. The first semiconductor optical element is for outputting light signal and the second semiconductor optical element is for performing signal processing on the light signal outputted from the first semiconductor optical element. The lens is for correcting a relation between optical axes of the first semiconductor optical element and the second semiconductor optical element so as to lens-couple the optical axes. The first semiconductor optical element, the second semiconductor optical element and the lens are mounted on a common element carrier.

Semiconductor laser module and method of assembling the same

Fiber gratings (), () having substantially the same reflection center wavelength are provided in an optical fiber (). The fiber gratings (), () reflects to the semiconductor laser element (), only a component at the reflection center wavelength of laser light emitted from the semiconductor laser element ().

Semiconductor laser module

A semiconductor laser module includes a semiconductor laser element, a lens system for condensing laser light onto an optical fiber, a band-pass filter for transmitting laser light having a predetermined wave length, and an optical fiber. The band-pass filter is held by a mechanism for tilting the band-pass filter at a desired angle relative to the traveling direction of the laser light. A reflecting element for reflecting part of the incident laser light is provided in a wave guide of the optical fiber so that a resonator is formed between the reflecting element and the emitting end face of the semiconductor laser element. The reflecting element utilizes a difference in refractive indices of materials forming the reflecting element to provide reflection. Preferably, control of the tilting mechanism is conducted via a control unit in response to an output from a thermal sensor.

An optical fiber amplifier includes a signal light source integral with an exciting light source. The optical fiber amplifier has a Fabry-Perot semiconductor laser element having a light emitting element with a wide spectrum. A fiber grating reflects only light having the same wave length as the signal light. The signal light is amplified by an optical fiber, on the broad wave length side of the Fabry-Perot type semiconductor laser element. An inline isolator has a high isolation in the same wave length range as that of the signal light.
