A variable discharge high pressure pump for pumping a fuel into a common rail of a common rail type fuel injection system has a plunger reciprocable in a cylinder bore and a pumping chamber defined between and end face of the plunger and the inner peripheral surface of the cylinder bore. A solenoid valve has a valve member movable into an open position in which the valve member is moved out of engagement with an associated value seat into the pumping chamber when the solenoid valve is deenergized. When the solenoid valve is energized, the valve member is moved into a closed position in which the fuel pressure in the pumping chamber acts on the valve member to urge the same into engagement with the valve seat. The plunger is of a simple cylindrical structure free from any lead formed therein.

Variable discharge high pressure pump

A fuel injection control device in which a needle valve of a fuel injector is opened and closed by two valves. The fuel injector has a pressure control chamber and a fuel chamber, and the needle valve opens a fuel injection aperture to inject the fuel in the fuel chamber to the engine when a pressure in the pressure control chamber is relatively high. One valve is provided in a passage which connects a pump, the pressure control chamber, and a reservoir, and the other valve is provided in a passage which connects the pump, the fuel chamber, and the reservoir.

Fuel injection control device

A fuel injection system for a diesel engine has fuel pump driven by the engine for producing highly pressurized fuel, a common rail for storing the pressurized fuel therein and injection nozzles for injecting the pressurized fuel stored in the common rail into the engine. The injection nozzles are electrically controlled in accordance with engine operating conditions (N, .alpha.) by the use of injection control solenoid valves provided between the injection nozzles and the common rail. The fuel pump is electrically controlled in accordance with the engine operating conditions by the use of a spill control solenoid valve which spills the pressurized fuel to a low pressure fuel channel so that loss of engine torque required by the pump is reduced.

Fuel injection system

A fuel injection control system for internal combustion engine comprises a fuel injection pump including a plunger slidably reciprocating in synchronism with rotation of the engine and a spill port establishing communication between a low pressure chamber and a pump chamber. An electronic control unit is responsive to engine operating conditions for the determination of fuel injection time period and controls the solenoid-operated valve to close the spill port in response to the requirement of fuel injection into the cylinder and open the same to terminate the fuel injection. The fuel injection control system further comprises a circuit including two fixed resistors and two adjusting resistors so that first and second voltage signals are developed at its terminals. The two adjusting resistors respectively determine the value of the voltage signals. The first voltage signal is regulated to correspond to the response time lag inherent in the solenoid valve and the second voltage signal is regulated to correspond to the error of the generation timing of the detection signal of a reference plunger position detector. Fuel injection control based on spill port opening timing correction

A high-pressure fluid control solenoid valve assembly for use with a spill type fuel injection pump of an internal combustion engine, comprises an actuator portion (101) including a solenoid (8, 9), a stator (7) and an armature (14), and a valve portion (102) including a pilot valve (40, 41) and a main valve (42, 43) where the valve portion (102) is spaced apart from the actuator portion (101) and is responsive to the movement of the armature (14) via a rod (14) connected to the armature (14) and extends axially in a bore of the stator (7) which is cylindrical hollow. The pilot valve (40, 41) is coaxial with and telescopically received in the main valve (42, 43) so that two fluid chambers (54, 51) are formed inside and outside, respectively a spool (42) of the main valve such that the main valve is continuously kept closed irrespective of the fluid pressure in these chambers as long as the pilot valve is closed. The pilot valve comprises a needle (40) which is arranged to be pressed by the rod (13) to close the pilot valve on energization of the solenoid (8, 9), where the needle (40) is normally biased in valve-opening direction. On deenergization, the pilot valve opens causing the main valve to spill fuel thus terminating the fuel injection.

Disclosed is a solenoid valve assembly for use in an fuel injection pump of a motor vehicle basically comprising an electromagnetic actuator section including a stator, a core and a winding and a valve section having a valve for interrupting flow of fuel in a fuel passage. A rod-like member is coupled between the valve and the core and is movable within a guide hole made at the center of the stator so that the movement of the core is transmitted to the valve. The valve is biased by a spring in a direction closing the fuel passage. The valve is actuated to open the fuel passage in response to energization of the winding and is actuated to close the fuel passage in response to deenergization of the winding, the opening degree of the valve being regulated and adjusted by a stopper. The spring and the stopper is provided at a high pressure side of the fuel passage communicating with a compression chamber of the fuel injection pump.

Fuel injection device in diesel engine

A fuel injection pump for an internal combustion engine has a shaft rotatable by the engine. The shaft is formed therein with a radial bore and an axial bore communicated therewith. Pumping plungers are slidably disposed in the radial bore to cooperate therewith to define a compression chamber and cyclically reciprocated to vary the volume of the compression chamber. An injection plunger is slidably disposed in the axial bore to divide the interior thereof into a first pressure chamber always communicated with the compression chamber and a second pressure chamber adapted to be communicated with a delivery port in a discharge stroke of the pump. The first and second pressure chambers are supplied with fuel in a suction stroke of the pump. The fuel in the second pressure chamber is discharged therefrom in the discharge stroke. A single solenoid valve is provided to control the fuel discharge timing and the quantity of fuel to be discharged from the pump.

Fuel injection pump

An apparatus for controlling fuel injection timing, for use in a fuel injection pump of a diesel engine, comprises a toothed wheel coaxially and fixedly mounted on a drive shaft of the fuel injection pump, first and second detectors for detecting the rotational position of the tooth wheel, and a control unit, having a microcomputer, for actuating a fuel injection timing changer of the pump according to the phase difference between signals from the first and second rotational position detectors for controlling fuel injection timing. The first rotational position detector is fixedly mounted on a pump housing and the second rotational position detector is fixedly mounted on a member rotatably provided around the drive shaft of the pump. The member is generally used for converting the rotational movement of the drive shaft to the reciprocation of a plunger of the pump which supplies fuel into cylinders of the engine. The phase difference corresponds to the actual injection timing condition. Therefore, the control unit actuates the injection timing changer so that the phase difference is approached to a desired phase difference predetermined according to the engine condition.

Method and apparatus for controlling fuel injection timing

Disclosed is a fuel injection quantity control system incorporated with a fuel injection pump with a solenoid-operated spill valve wherein a control signal is generated for cutting off a fuel supply to engine cylinders when a rotational phase angle of a drive shaft of the fuel injection pump is coincident with a desired spill phase angle determined in accordance with engine operating conditions. The desired spill phase angle, i.e., the opening timing of the spill valve is controlled in accordance with the rotational variations of the fuel injection pump. The desired spill phase angle is divided by unit angle corresponding to a detection period of rotational angle signals produced in accordance with the rotation of the pump drive shaft, obtaining a quotient and a remainder angle. The remainder angle is converted into a time on the basis of an engine speed. The generation of the control signal basically occurs upon the elapse of the converted time after the count of rotational angle signals is coincident with the quotient. If the engine operating condition varies immediately prior to the coincidence therebetween, the control signal is generated immediately after the coincidence or upon the elapse of a predetermined time period thereafter.

An apparatus for measuring a flow of intake air to an engine includes a bridge circuit including a heat resistor placed in an intake air path of the engine, a resistor for sensing the temperature of the intake air, and a plurality of balance resistors. A heating current is supplied to this bridge circuit through a transistor controlled by a periodical current-passage control signal generated by a microcomputer. A signal Vh, representing a temperature change of the heat resistor heated by the heating current, is detected by the microcomputer. A first correction value is computed by using a difference between the detected value from the microcomputer and a signal Vho, representing temperature of the heat resistor when the bridge circuit is balanced at normal temperature. A time width correction value .DELTA.Do1 is computed from a table on the basis of the first correction value. The correction signal .DELTA.Do1 is used for correcting the current passage time. The current passage time width as corrected is used for computing a flow of the intake air.

Apparatus for measuring a flow rate of intake air for an engine

A control signal is generated to actuate a solenoid-operated valve at an angle phase of rotation of an engine for cutting off a fuel supply to an engine cylinder. The control signal is determined by a reference angle signal produced at a reference angle of rotation of the engine, and a rotational angle signal produced for each crank angle. Rotational angle signals are counted which are produced after each reference angle signal before the angle phase is reached with any remainder angle smaller than the crank angle. The remainder angle is converted into a time based on an average number of r.p.m. of the engine at the time the conversion is effected. The control signal is issued upon elapse of the counted rotational angle signals and the converted time. A ratio of an instantaneous number of r.p.m. of the engine in the vicinity of the angle phase to an average number of r.p.m. of the engine is issued and used for correcting the time converted from the remainder angle with the ratio.

Method and apparatus for controlling an engine

A fuel injection pump is described wherein a plunger is rotatingly and reciprocally movable in an enclosure to define a compression chamber which is connected to a fuel inlet during an intake stroke of the plunger and to a fuel outlet during a compression stroke thereby to initiate injection of fuel to the outlet. A solenoid valve is responsive to a voltage applied from a voltage source for providing a pressure relief action on the fuel in the compression chamber. A control unit is responsive to the onset of fuel injection to determine a basic timing at which fuel is to be terminated and corrects the basic timing as a function of the source voltage to compensate for a voltage variation thereof which would otherwise affect on the operation of the solenoid valve. The solenoid valve is then energized at the corrected timing.

A distribution type fuel injection pump includes a control cylindrical bore into which a control plunger is fitted. The control plunger partitions the control cylindrical bore into first and second chambers. The same pressure as that of fuel in the pumping chamber (which serves to feed fuel) is transmitted to the first chamber, while fuel is supplied to the second chamber through a control passage. An electromagnetic valve is arranged in the control passage and the amount of fuel with which the second chamber is filled is adjusted by controlling the electromagnetic valve.

In a fuel injection pump, an engine drives a rotary plunger having an axially extending bore connected to a compression chamber, plural fuel inlet ports alignable with an inlet passage for introducing fuel to the compression chamber, fuel distribution ports for distributing the compressed fuel through the bore to each one of the fuel delivery passages and plural spill ports. A spill-port timing control unit is provided comprising a stator core, a coil wound on thereon, a magnetized ring having a spill groove, and a spring for resiliently maintaining the ring in a reference angular position with respect to the stator core. The magnetized ring is mounted on the plunger so that it can rotate from the reference angular position to an angularly displaced position in proportion to the magnetic flux of the coil to align the spill groove of the ring with each spill port of the plunger to create a passageway through which the compressed fuel is allowed to escape at the termination of fuel injection.
