An image reading device includes: a platen on which a document is placed; a platen cover openable and closable with respect to the platen; a cover-open sensor which detects a fact that the open/close angle of the platen cover has passed a predetermined angle from a close state; a CCD line sensor including charge coupled devices (CCD) arranged for recording a variation in distribution for a fixed period of time of incident light when detecting passing of the platen cover; a variation amount calculator which calculates a variation amount of incident light at each distribution point on the basis of a variation in distribution recorded by the CCD line sensor; and a variation amount determination unit which determines whether or not a variation amount calculated by the variation amount calculator exceeds a predetermined threshold.

Image reading device

An image scanning apparatus performs operations including: upon detection of a first angle, causing light to be emitted to an original and recording a distribution of reflected light of the emitted light as first read data; upon elapse of a predetermined time from detection of a second angle, causing light to be emitted to the original and recording a distribution of reflected light of the emitted light as second read data; detecting a closed state of a pressure plate based on the second read data; and upon determination of an angle of the pressure plate with respect to the platen being equal to or smaller than a third angle smaller than the second angle in the detection of the closed state, detecting a width of the original in an opening-closing direction of the pressure plate based on a difference between the first and second read data.

Image scanning apparatus

An ink jet printer includes an image control unit that controls rotation of image data so that a direction of a short side of a rectangular area in a printing sheet becomes a print width direction that is orthogonal to a sheet transport direction if a first warm-up time calculated by a warm-up time calculation unit is shorter than a warm-up time until an ink temperature of an overall ink discharge target width of an ink jet head reaches an appropriate temperature range.

Ink jet printer

A printing device includes: a registration roller that once stops a transferred sheet and then feeds the transferred sheet toward an inkjet head unit; a sheet feed system that transfers and feeds a sheet to the registration roller; a sheet refeed system that, during both-side printing, reverses a one-side printed sheet and transfers the one-side printed sheet to the registration roller; and a controller that, during both-side printing, controls the registration roller so as to feed a sheet, which is fed by the sheet feed system and the sheet refeed system, toward the inkjet head unit in accordance with a predetermined print schedule. The controller controls the sheet feed system in accordance with the print schedule so that a speed when a sheet fed from the sheet feed system is abutted against the inkjet head unit becomes lower during both-side printing than during one-side printing.

Printing device

A printer comprising: an image former that forms a plurality of images on a plurality of sheets; a circulation transfer route composed of a first transfer route that transfers each sheet fed from a feeding route toward a discharging route, and a second transfer route that is branched from the first transfer route and returns each sheet received from the first transfer route to the first transfer route; a printing rate detector that detects a printing rate of each image; a circulation number determiner that determines a circulation number of each sheet on the circulation transfer route based on the printing rate of each image; a scheduling coordinator that coordinates a sheet transfer schedule based on the circulation number of each sheet; and a transfer drive controller that controls quantities described in the sheet transfer schedule by controlling driving mechanisms on the circulation transfer route and switching between the first and second transfer routes based on the schedule.

Printing apparatus and printing method

A printing apparatus is capable of forming images by overlappingly performing print processes for a plurality of colors with non-aqueous inks and an aqueous ink. When printing with the aqueous ink, it is possible to inhibit paper from being deformed and to realize a high density print process with a low see-through density. At least one of the plurality of colors is printed with a non-aqueous ink containing a water-insoluble solvent, and the remaining colors is printed with an aqueous ink containing a water-soluble solvent. The print process of the non-aqueous ink is performed in advance of the print process of the aqueous ink.

Printing apparatus

A printing apparatus is provided with a circulation route through which a print sheet can be circulated a minimum number of times to avoid the overall print process time from being elongated. The circulation route includes an ordinary transportation route CR which transports a print sheet for printing and discharging through a discharge route, and a switchback route SR which is connected to the ordinary transportation route CR as a branch, such that the print sheet can be circulated a plural number of times. The printing apparatus is provided further with a print coverage detecting unitfor calculating the print coverage of each print sheet, a circulation repeat number determination unitfor determining the number of circulations for each print sheet in accordance with the print coverage, a paper discharge control unitfor selectively discharging each print sheet in accordance with the number of circulations.
