A liquid crystal display panel includes a TFT substrate, a color filter (CF) substrate opposed to the TFT substrate, a sealant disposed between the TFT substrate and the CF substrate and disposed between portions of both the substrates located immediately outside display regions thereof, and a liquid crystal layer disposed between the TFT substrate and the CF substrate. The CF substrate is provided with a light-shielding layer at a portion located immediately outside its display region. The light-shielding layer is provided with a slit at a region that coincides with a line on the TFT substrate.

The partition wall has a section which is inclined with respect to the surface of the first substrate.

A method of the present invention for manufacturing a liquid crystal display device including a liquid crystal region surrounded by a polymer material, includes the steps of: attaching a pair of substrates to each other, each having at least an electrode film; disposing a precursor mixture containing a liquid crystal material, a polymerizable resin material and a polymerization initiator, between the pair of substrate; precipitating a liquid crystal droplet by varying a temperature of the precursor mixture; growing the precipitated liquid crystal droplet; curing the polymerizable resin material at a temperature allowing the liquid crystal droplet to be 80% or more of a pixel in size and to be independently present within a pixel region; and applying an external field across the substrates to pre-tilt the molecules of the liquid crystal droplet.

Method of fabricating a liquid crystal display device including a liquid

A liquid crystal display device of the present invention includes: first and second substrates; a liquid crystal layer interposed between the first and second substrates; a plurality of pillar-like spacers for defining a gap between the first and second substrates; a plurality of electrodes provided on a side of each of the first and second substrates which faces the liquid crystal layer, for applying a voltage through the liquid crystal layer; and a plurality of pixel regions defined by the plurality of electrodes. The liquid crystal layer has liquid crystal molecules having a negative dielectric anisotropy. A vertical alignment layer is provided on a surface of each of the first and second substrates which faces the liquid crystal layer and on surfaces of the pillar-like spacers. The liquid crystal layer includes a plurality of liquid crystal regions defined by the plurality of pillar-like spacers. Each of the pixel regions includes at least one of the liquid crystal regions. The liquid crystal molecules in the liquid crystal regions are aligned substantially perpendicular to the surfaces of the first and second substrates in an absence of an applied voltage and in axial symmetry in a presence of an applied voltage.
