One embodiment of the present invention is to provide a system for sorting cell particles in a liquid flow, which comprises a flow-defining block including a flow chamber receiving a sample conduit and a flow cell having a flow channel. The system also comprises a strobe block including a imaging device for taking an image of a jet flow ejected from the flow-defining block and a plurality of droplets in a given image area. The flow-defining block and the strobe block are detachably connected each other. Further the strobe block includes a nozzle plate having a nozzle channel between a receiving end and a nozzle. The flow-defining block includes a discharge end opposite to the receiving end and a channel enlarged portion of which cross section taken along a predetermined plane perpendicular to a flow direction has an area increasing towards the discharge end. The discharge end and the receiving end have substantially the same open distance in the predetermined plane perpendicular to the flow direction.

Flow cytometer and flow cytometry

In at least one embodiment, a flow cytometer includes a flow cell defining a sheath flow encompassing a dyed biological particle, a first optical source irradiating first light onto the flow cell, a second optical source irradiating second light onto the flow cell downstream where the first light is irradiated, a first optical detector detecting scattered light or fluorescence from the biological particle to output a first electrical signal corresponding thereto, a plurality of second optical detectors arranged along the flow cell, each of the second optical detectors detecting fluorescence from the biological particle to output a second electrical signal corresponding thereto, and a signal processor summing the second electrical signals output from the plurality of the second optical detectors in a plurality of time windows estimated based upon when the first optical detector detects the scattered light or the fluorescence, thereby to increase the second electrical signals of the fluorescence from the biological particle excited by the second light.

Devices and methods for detecting and sorting biological particles in a liquid flow using substantially uniform intensity along a direction of flow of a flow cell

The embodiment of the present invention is to provide a system for sorting biological particles in a liquid flow, such as a cell sorter, which comprises an optical mechanism emitting laser beam onto each of the biological particles to detect light therefrom, a controller determining a moving speed of each of the biological particles in the liquid flow in accordance with the light detected therefrom, and an electric charger charging each of the biological particles based upon the moving speed thereof. Therefore, the cell sorter according to the embodiment of the present invention can improve recovery rate and purity of the desired cell particles.

System and process for sorting biological particles in liquid flow

In one embodiment of the present invention, a flow cytometer includes a plurality of optical sources, each of which illuminates an excitation beam at a predetermined frequency having a wavelength and a phase different from another; and a guide member for guiding the excitation beams into the same incident optical path to focus onto a dyed particle. According to one aspect of an embodiment of the present invention, it is possible, without requiring introduction of the delay time, to detect a plurality of fluorescence excited at the cell particles labeled with a plurality of fluorescent labeling reagents, by a plurality of laser optical sources.

A system which irradiates light onto a liquid flow containing a biological particle, detects the light therefrom to collect biological information thereon, and sorts the biological particle based upon the biological information, comprises an optical detector for detecting the light from the biological particle; an imaging device for imaging the flow and a droplet split off the flow; means for calculating, based upon the image taken by the imaging device, a distance from a detection point where the optical detector detects the light from the biological particle to a lower end position of the flow, and an interval between adjacent droplets split off the flow, thereby calculating a time that the particle moves from the detection point to the lower end position, based upon the distance and the interval; and means for providing the flow with electrons of a predetermined polarity depending upon the feature of the biological particle, when the calculated time passes after the optical detector detects the light from the biological particle. Thus, the structure of the system for sorting the biological particles can be simplified and the sorting accuracy can be improved.

System and process for sorting biological particles

A system () for collecting biological information on a dyed biological particle (cell or chromosome) by irradiating light onto liquid containing the dyed biological particles and for detecting information light therefrom is provided according to the present invention. The system includes a path-defining structure () of transparent material defining a flow path () through which the liquid containing the dyed biological particles runs, an irradiation apparatus () for irradiating light onto the particles passing through the flow path (), a first detecting apparatus () for detecting first information light obtained from the irradiated particle, and a second detecting apparatus () for detecting second information light obtained from the irradiated particle. At least one of the first and second detecting apparatuses () includes one or more fiber optics (), of which one ends () are arranged adjacent the flow path () so as to collect the information light.
