A battery pack includes a secondary cell, a selection unit, a judging unit, an elapsed time period comparing unit, and a control unit. The selection unit selects either a first operation state or a second operation state. The control unit controls the selection unit to switch from the first operation state to the second operation state when the elapsed time period is longer than a predetermined time period. The control unit also controls the selection unit to switch from a second operation state to a first operation state either (a) when judged as being in an used state by the judging unit while the second operation is selected (b) when a voltage of the second cell becomes equal to or less than a second voltage threshold value which is smaller than a first voltage threshold value while the second operation state is selected.

Battery pack

A protecting circuit monitors a voltage of a secondary battery and supplies the signal to permit a discharge to a gate terminal of a discharge control FET when the voltage is equal to or more than a lower limit value in a rated voltage range. When the discharge control FET receives this signal, it is connected and passes a discharge current. In the other cases, it shuts off the discharge current. Further, when the voltage is equal to or more than a predetermined value, a signal of a voltage of a battery voltage or more is supplied from a voltage converter to the gate terminal. When the voltage is equal to or less than an upper limit value in the rated voltage range, the protecting circuit supplies the signal to permit a charge to a gate terminal of a charge control FET. Further, when the voltage is equal to or more than a predetermined value, the voltage output from the voltage converter is supplied to the gate terminal. A battery pack in which by applying the voltage of the battery voltage or more to the gate terminal, the discharge control FET and the charge control FET are controlled and an energy loss is suppressed to the minimum is provided.

A battery pack having a secondary battery and a circuit that controls charging and discharging of the secondary battery is provided. The battery pack has a computer and a charging control section. The computer communicates with another computer disposed in a charging device and authenticates the charging device. The charging control section, controlled by the computer, supplies a charging current to the secondary battery when the charging device has been successfully authenticated and shuts off the charging current when the charging device has not been successfully authenticated.

Battery pack, charging control method, and application device

A battery pack having a secondary battery and a circuit that controls charging and discharging of the secondary battery is provided. The battery pack has a computer that communicates with another computer disposed in a charging device, authenticate the charging device, and calculates remaining capacity information of the secondary battery. When the computer has not successfully authenticated the charging device and has detected that the secondary battery has been charged in a predetermined manner, the computer forcibly sets the remaining capacity information to 'no remaining capacity'.
