Provided is a duplex stainless steel having a high strength and a high toughness. A stainless steel according to the present invention includes: a chemical composition containing, in mass percent, C: at most 0.030%, Si: 0.20 to 1.00%, Mn: at most 8.00%, P: at most 0.040%, S: at most 0.0100%, Cu: more than 2.00% and at most 4.00%, Ni: 4.00 to 8.00%, Cr: 20.0 to 30.0%, Mo: at least 0.50% and less than 2.00%, N: 0.100 to 0.350%, and sol. Al: at most 0.040%, the balance being Fe and impurities; and a structure, wherein a rate of ferrite in the structure is 30 to 70%, and a hardness of the ferrite in the structure is at least 300 Hv.

Duplex stainless steel and production method therefor

A welded joint of duplex stainless steel, which can suppress precipitation &#x3c3; phase under high heat input welding, is excellent in SCC resistance under high-temperature chloride environments. A weld metal of the welded joint contains, in mass percent, C: at most 0.030%, Si: 0.20 to 1.00%, Mn: at most 8.00%, P: at most 0.040%, S: at most 0.0100%, Cu: at most 2.00%, Ni: 7.00 to 12.00%, Cr: 20.0 to 30.0%, Mo: 1 to 4%, N: 0.100 to 0.350%, sol. Al: at most 0.040%, and O: at most 0.035%, the balance being Fe and impurities. The weld metal satisfies Expressions (1) and (3):2.2Cr+7Mo+3Cu&#x3e;66&#x2003;&#x2003;(1)Cr+11Mo+10Ni&#x2212;12(Cu+30N)&#x3c;100&#x2003;&#x2003;(3)where a content (mass percent) of each element in one of the base metal and weld metal is used for each element in Expressions (1) and (3).

Welded joint of duplex stainless steel

A process for producing a welded joint, which includes a weld metal having high strength and high toughness, and containing fewer blowholes, includes the steps of: preparing a base material containing, by mass %, not less than 10.5% of Cr; and subjecting the base material to GMA welding using a shielding gas containing 1 to 2 volume % or 35 to 50 volume % of COgas, and the balance being inert gas, thereby forming a weld metal includes, by mass %, C: not more than 0.080%, Si: 0.20 to 1.00%, Mn: not more than 8.00%, P: not more than 0.040%, S: not more than 0.0100%, Cu: not more than 2.0%, Cr: 20.0 to 30.0%, Ni: 7.00 to 12.00%, N: 0.100 to 0.350%, O: 0.02 to 0.11%, sol. Al: not more than 0.040%, at least one of Mo: 1.00 to 4.00% and W: 1.00 to 4.00%, and the balance being Fe and impurities.

In a high-tensile steel plate according to the invention, the carbon equivalent Pcm represented in Expression (1) is from 0.180% to 0.220%, the surface hardness is a Vicker's hardness of 285 or less, the ratio of a Martensite Austenite constituent in the surface layer is not more than 10%, the ratio of a mixed structure of ferrite and bainite inside beyond the surface layer is not less than 90%, the ratio of the bainite in the mixed structure is not less than 10%, the thickness of the lath of bainite is not more than 1 &#x3bc;m, the length of the lath is not more than 20 &#x3bc;m, and the segregation ratio as the ratio of the Mn concentration in the center segregation part relative to the Mn concentration at a part in a depth equal to &#xbc; of the thickness of the plate from the surface is not more than 1.3. Pcm=C+Si/30+(Mn+Cu+Cr)/20+Ni/60+Mo/15+V/10+5B . . . (1) where the element symbols in Expression (1) represent the % by mass of the respective elements. In this way, the high-tensile steel plate according to the invention has a yield strength of at least 551 MPa and a tensile strength of at least 620 MPa as well as high toughness, high propagating shear fracture and high weldability.

High-tensile steel plate, welded steel pipe or tube, and methods of manufacturing thereof

A bent pipe corresponding to at least API X100 grade and having a base metal with high strength and toughness and a weld metal with high toughness is provided. A steel plate prepared by cooling after hot rolling at a cooling rate at the central portion in the plate thickness direction of at most 5&#xb0; C. per second at 700-500&#xb0; C. is formed into a bend mother pipe, which is then heated to 900-1100&#xb0; C. and subjected to bending, then it is cooled to a temperature of at most 300&#xb0; C. at a cooling rate in the central portion of the thickness direction of at least 5&#xb0; C. per second at 700-500&#xb0; C., after which it is tempered at 300-500&#xb0; C.

Method of manufacturing a bent pipe

A high-strength hot bend pipe which has a balance between an excellent strength of at least X70 grade and toughness and which has excellent tensile properties and a weld metal with excellent low temperature toughness is manufactured. A UOE steel pipe having a base metal with a composition of C: 0.03-0.12%, Si: 0.05-0.50%, Mn: 1.4-2.2%, S: at most 0.01%, Al: at most 0.06%, N: at most 0.008%, and a remainder of Fe and impurities, with the carbon equivalent (Ceq) being at most 0.36% and the weld cracking parameter (Pcm) being at most 0.22%, and having a weld metal with a weld cracking parameter (Pcm) of at most 0.28%, a B content of at most 5 ppm, and an O content of at most 280 ppm is heated to a temperature range of 900-1100&#xb0; C. and subjected to bending, and then is immediately cooled to a temperature range of 300&#xb0; C. or lower at a cooling rate of at least 3&#xb0; C./sec, and then is tempered in a temperature range of 300-500&#xb0; C.

Hot bend pipe and a process for its manufacture

A welding method includes performing welding to form a weld metal consisting essentially of, in mass %,  and a remainder of Fe and unavoidable impurities. The amounts of impurities are P: at most 0.03%, S: at most 0.03%, N: at most 0.01%, Ca or Mg: at most 0.005%. High strength steel weld having improved resistance to cold cracking and a welding method

This invention relates to a large-diameter, thick-wall martensitic stainless steel welded pipe. For this welded pipe, the size of the raised weld bead portion on the inside surface is restricted to be small based on a conditional formula derived by considering the bead width and height and the yield strength of the base metal and of the weld metal. As a result, the base metal portion and pipe inside surface seam portion of this welded pipe are superior in corrosion resistance, in particular stress corrosion cracking resistance (SCC resistance). The sulfide stress corrosion resistance (sour gas resistance) and carbon dioxide corrosion resistance can be further improved by selecting the chemical compositions. This welded pipe is very well suited for use as a pipe for a pipeline for conveying a crude oil and a natural gas with no dehydration treatment, which is highly corrosive to metals.

Martensitic stainless steel welded pipe

A high-tensile-strength steel having excellent toughness throughout its thickness, excellent properties at welded joints, and a tensile strength (TS) of at least about 900 MPa (130 ksi), and a method for making such steel, are provided. Steels according to this invention preferably have the following composition based on % by weight: carbon (C): 0.02% to 0.1%; silicon (Si): not greater than 0.6%; manganese (Mn): 0.2% to 2.5%; nickel (Ni): 0.2% to 1.2%; niobium (Nb): 0.01% to 0.1%; titanium (Ti): 0.005% to 0.03%; aluminum (Al): not greater than 0.1%; nitrogen (N): 0.001% to 0.006%; copper (Cu): 0% to 0.6%; chromium (Cr): 0% to 0.8%; molybdenum (Mo): 0% to 0.6%; vanadium (V): 0% to 0.1%; boron (B): 0% to 0.0025%; and calcium (Ca): 0% to 0.006%. The value of Vs as defined by Vs&equals;C&plus;(Mn/5)&plus;5P&minus;(Ni/10)&minus;(Mo/15)&plus;(Cu/10) is 0.15 to 0.42. P and S among impurities are contained in an amount of not greater than 0.015% and not greater than 0.003%, respectively. The carbide size in the steel is not greater than 5 microns in the longitudinal direction.

High-tensile-strength steel and method of manufacturing the same

The present invention is a welded high-strength steel structure having a TS of not less than 900 MPa and excellent low-temperature toughness and a method of manufacturing the steel structure. The base steel is formed of a mixed structure of martensite and lower bainite and has a TS of not less than 900 MPa, and the weld metal is steel which has the following elements based on % by weight: C: 0.01% to 0.15%; Si: 0.02% to 0.6%; Mn: 0.6% to 3%; Al: 0.004% to 0.08%; Ti: 0.003% to 0.03%; O (oxygen): not greater than 0.06%; B: 0.0002% to 0.00%; and as optional components, Cu, Ni, Cr, Mo, V, and Nb and which satisfies the following two equations: 0.25 &lE; Pcm &lE; 0.32 and 0.6 &lE; Al/O (oxygen) &lE; 1.4.

Welded high-strength steel structures and method of manufacturing the same

High-tensile-strength steel having excellent arrestability and a TS of not less than 900 MPa, as well as a method of manufacturing the same. The steel of the invention has the following composition (% by weight): C: 0.02% to 0.1%; Si: not greater than 0.6%; Mn: 0.2% to 2.5%; Ni: greater than 1.2% but not greater than 2.5%; Nb: 0.01% to 0.1%; Ti: 0.005% to 0.03%; N: 0.001% to 0.006%; Al: not greater than 0.1%; and optional elements. Ceq of the B-free steel is 0.53-0.7%, and Ceq of the B-bearing steel is 0.4-0.58%. The microstructure of the steel may be a mixed structure of martensite (M) and lower bainite (LB) occupying at least 90 vol. % in the microstructure, LB occupying at least 2 vol. % in the mixed structure, and the aspect ratio of prior austenite grains is not less than 3.

High-toughness, high-tensile-strength steel and method of manufacturing the same

The present invention provides (1) diffusion bonding methods for joining metallic materials like carbon steels or stainless steels,interposing a bonding material, such as 10 to 80 .mu.m thick Ni-based alloy with the melting point of 1150.degree. C. or lower,between base materials, heating so that the length heated at 800.degree. C. or above measures from 3 to 20 mm, in case of joining stainless steels a bonded layer, further, being heated between the both melting points, and applying the compressive stress, for example 0.5 to 2 kgf/mm.sup.2, so that a lateral expansion ratio is made within 1.0 to 1.1, and (2) a joined structure having the bonded joint formed thereby.
