The present invention provides an apparatus for processing images that includes a moving body detecting unit that detects an object from moving picture information input and checks the object for identity, thereby to determine whether the object is contained in two or more consecutive frames, a thumbnail displaying unit that displays any objects that have appeared within a prescribed period, as thumbnails extracted from a representative frame, on the basis of object information detected by the moving body detecting unit, an operation input unit that receives an operation input made when one of the thumbnails displayed by the thumbnail displaying unit is selected, and a moving picture displaying unit that displays a moving picture that contains the object identified by the selected thumbnail related to the operation input received by the operation input unit.

An information processing system, apparatus and method is disclosed wherein an image of a predetermined region and an image of moving bodies in the region can be picked up and any of images obtained by such image pickup which is desired by a user can be reproduced readily. Sensor images of the predetermined region are stored, and an image of the moving bodies in the region is picked up separately and stored together with reproduction information relating to reproduction of the sensor image from which the moving bodies are detected. When an instruction to reproduce the sensor image is issued, the reproduction information corresponding to the moving body is read out, and the sensor image is reproduced based on the read out reproduction information. The invention can be applied, for example, to a monitoring system.

A spindle attachment device attached, for use, to a distal end of a spindle of a machine tool is provided. The spindle attachment device () includes a hollow casing () having an internal space; an input shaft () rotatably supported inside the casing; an output shaft () rotatably supported inside the casing; a coupling member () connected to the input shaft in order to join the input shaft to the spindle of the machine tool; a gear train () disposed between the input shaft and the output shaft in order to increase a rotation speed of the input shaft for a transmission to the output shaft; and a tap holder () for mounting a tapping tool on the output shaft. The spindle attachment device increases the rotation speed of the spindle and transfers it to the tapping tool, and thus makes it possible to perform a tapping process on a workpiece at high speed, while maintaining the rotation speed of the spindle at a low level.

In a first step, two conductive plates such as two zinc galvanized (electroplated) steel plates with films formed on surfaces thereof, are prepared; a flexible conductive material is held between these two zinc galvanized (electroplated) steel plates. The influence of a restoring force can be eliminated. The vibration wave motor includes an elastic vibration member which is composed of a permanent magnet and a piezoelectric element which are fixed to each other, a plurality of motion extraction portions provided on the permanent magnet, and a moving member which is pressurized to be in contact with the plurality of motion extraction portions. A closed magnetic circuit of a magnetic flux is formed to connect between the elastic vibration member and the moving member through the plurality of motion extraction portions. A flow direction of the magnetic flux passing through the moving member is aligned with a moving direction of the moving member.

A vibration member of a vibration wave driving apparatus of the present invention comprises the vibration member constituted of an elastic member and an electro-mechanical energy conversion element, and a rotor contacting the vibration member, and the vibration member generates a travelling wave in the elastic member when an alternating signal is applied to the electro-mechanical energy conversion element, in which an electrode film provided on a surface of the electro-mechanical energy conversion element of the vibration member is divided into a plurality of circular areas with different radiuses and each circular area is divided into a plurality of electrodes along its peripheral direction.

There is provided a position control apparatus and method for a table member which is capable of controlling the positioning of the table through very small displacement thereof, to thereby prevent the position of the table from deviating even when a disturbance such as vibration is applied to the table. A table member is movable relative to the base member in a predetermined direction. A threaded shaft is rotatably mounted on a base member and elastically deformable when twisted. A motor is coupled to one end of the threaded shaft, for rotating the threaded shaft to displace the table member. The invention provides an apparatus for positioning a cutter a tool relative to a spindle of a machine tool. The machine tool include a spindle having a rotating axis and a spindle housing for supporting the spindle for rotation about the rotating axis. A piston is provided in the shank for movement along an axis which defines an angle relative to the rotating axis of the spindle. A cutter, for machining a workpiece, is connected to the piston. Each of the first and second fitting members include an abutment provided on the first and second fitting members to contact each other in the direction of the axis. A fitting recess is provided in one of the first and second fitting members and a fitting protrusion is provided on the one of the second and first fitting members for fitting into the fitting recess. The cutter is axially and circumferentially positioned relative to the axis of the movement of the piston by contacting the abutments each other and fitting the fitting protrusion into the fitting recess.

A disc changer is provided to support each of a plurality of bare discs for recording and/or regeneration on a separate disc rack board without requiring a cartridge. The disc rack boards are positioned so as to form a vertical stack. A carrier is provided which moves only in the vertical direction along the vertical stack of disc rack boards. Furthermore, a plurality of disc drives is provided in a vertical stack opposing the vertical stack of disc rack boards. A hand is provided which moves only in a direction perpendicular to the direction in which the carrier moves, and operates to transfer one of the plurality of bare discs between one of the plurality of disc rack boards and the carrier and between one of the plurality of disc drives and the carrier. Thus, the number of discs which may be loaded is increased while the size of the disc changer is minimized.

In a nozzle plate production method and apparatus, a metallic sheet material is punched to form nozzle holes therein by using a press having punches. Each of the punches includes a tapered conical portion, a straight cylindrical portion, and a rounded interconnecting portion. Nibs produced on a bottom surface of the sheet material at the nozzle holes by the nozzle hole punching are removed by use of a tape grinding machine.
