There is provided a tape printing device capable of using long tape-like print media such as label tape having a plurality of label areas as targets of printing arranged on a long support tape along the length of the support tape and normal tape allowing printing at any position on a long tape-like image receiving medium, comprising judgment means for judging whether the print medium currently used is label tape or normal tape and feed cut control means for performing a feed cut operation of feeding the print medium and thereafter cutting the print medium. The feed cut control means includes feeding distance control means for controlling feeding distance before the cutting in the feed cut operation depending on the judgment by the judgment means.

A print image of a character string to be printed on a print tape, rotated counterclockwise from the lengthwise direction of the print tape by 90 degrees to be arranged in the width direction of the print tape, is generated (S). The print image is repetitively arranged sequentially in the lengthwise direction of the print tape (S) and thereby label printing is executed (S). Subsequently (S), a normal print image of the character string arranged in the lengthwise direction of the print tape is generated (S) and label printing of the normal print image is executed (S).

When format information is changed, print area check data is generated as per the changed format information (S25). When an enlargement print key is pressed, a label producing apparatus enters a mode for setting the enlargement magnification used for enlargement printing. Next, a number key is operated to actually set the enlargement magnification. After the creation of print image data, respective data are taken from a table in which the respective data about widths of printing tapes, the number of printing tape segments based on width of tape and enlargement magnification, and 'an enlargement start bit position,' 'an enlargement end bit position,' 'an enlargement work start bit position 1,' 'an enlargement work start bit position 2' and 'the number of shifts for adjustment' with respect to each tape width which have been specified to thereby create one-dot string data. When it is desired, for example, to scale up and print data associated with a 12-mm tape width in 3.times. magnification, the enlargement print data is printed on the corresponding printing tape by being divided into three at 12-mm width intervals. Thus, the divided printing can be performed using a plurality of segments of the printing tape having a width that is less than the character size to be printed.

A tape printing apparatus for making printed labels includes a keyboard for entering a character string, a display screen for displaying the character string, a tape cassette printer mechanism for printing the character string on the tape, a tape width detector for detecting the tape width of the tape cassette mounted on the printer mechanism, a first display data generator which generates pattern image data used to define the effective display zone of display screen that is proportional to the detected tape width, and a second display data generator which generates image data of the entered character string based on stored font data so that a print image of the character string in correct proportion to the tape width is displayed in the display zone.

A typewriter having an automatic erasing function, having an erasing device responsive to an erasure-start key, for effecting an erasing operation to successively erase the characters printed by a printing device, and a controller responsive to the erasure-stop key, for permitting the erasing device to interrupt the erasing operation. The typewriter has an input buffer for storing input data which is entered through a keyboard while the erasing device is operated, the typewriter. The typewriter may be arranged so that the input buffer is cleared upon operation of an erasure-stop key. The above arrangement may be adapted to erase successive words on a display device as character and space data are retrieved from a memory. In this case, a device may be provided to suspend a continuous erasing operation for a predetermined time each time the space data representative of a space between the words has been retrieved from the memory after at least one character has been erased.

A matrix switching apparatus for preventing a pseudo input condition caused by a detour of a signal as well as output of an erroneous signal caused by a noise intruding into an apparatus and the like, in which a plurality of key lines having a plurality of switches are arranged in the first and second directions respectively. The apparatus includes a detector for detecting an ON condition of the plurality of the switches by a time-sharing detection, a counter for counting up a number of the switches which are in the ON condition simultaneously, both totally and respectively with the key lines, a storage means for storing a first, second, third and fourth statuses which represent the condition of the switches respectively, and a controller for inverting the second status into the first status.

Matrix switching apparatus for preventing pseudo input

An electronic typewriter is provided with a function that the print head is moved leftward linearly when a backspace key is continuously operated after the printing paper is fed more than a preset amount, while the print head traces the printed characters when the printing paper is fed less than the preset amount. The typewriter is convenient in erasing a mistyped character on a printed line with a superscripted or subscripted character and also useful in printing new characters on the same fed printed line.

Typewriter with a correction function

A printing apparatus comprising a print wheel having a multiplicity type elements, and a detecting unit for detecting angular positions of the print wheel including its fixed home position. The apparatus further comprises a control unit which includes a first counter which stores data representative of an angular distance of a type element currently located at the printing position as measured from the home position, and a second counter which stores data representative of an angular position of a type element designated by a print signal. Both counters are operated as they receive position signals from the detecting unit. The control unit is so arranged that in the event of an unexpected rotation of a wheel driving rotary shaft which is not a result of the actuation of a wheel driving motor in response to the print signal, the print wheel is first reset to the home position before it is rotated to bring a designated type element to the printing position, whereby chances for printing errors due to such unexpected rotation are eliminated. A method for controlling to prevent the printing errors is also disclosed.
