A camera has a movable lens barrel that is stowed in a camera body while the camera is inactive, and is protruded from the camera body to a near range focusing position or a far range focusing position by rotating a drive ring in one direction. The movable barrel returns to the stowed position by rotating the drive ring further in the same direction, because of a cam mechanism interconnecting the drive ring with the movable barrel. To rotate the drive ring, a rotational power of a motor in a first direction is transmitted to the drive ring through a clutch mechanism. The clutch mechanism is switched over according to the rotational direction of the motor and transmits a rotational power of the motor in a second direction to another mechanism. A controller controls driving the motor in response to signals entered through manually operated members, including a power switch, a shutter button and a zone selector, with reference to detection signals from a barrel position detector.

Camera with motor-driven lens barrel

A portrait photograph camera incorporates a taking lens assembly having a predetermined focal length, and photographs a human head on instant film. A pair of indicia are displayed within a field frame of a viewfinder. According to the indicia, the human head is framed or targeted. The framed human head is photographed, so as to create an image having a predetermined size range on the film. In a preferred embodiment, a telephoto converter lens is selectively mountable on the taking lens. Combined with the telephoto converter, the taking lens has a longer focal length. A second pair of indicia are displayed within the finder field frame. The human head as framed by the second indicia is photographed at the longer focal length so as to create on the film an image in the former predetermined size range. A rangefinding device measures the subject distance. When the subject distance is too great for photography through the taking lens without a converter lens, a telephoto indicator lamp displays in the viewfinder an instruction to mount the telephoto converter lens on the taking lens assembly. Another converter lens, with its associated indicia, is provided to shorten the focal length for wide-angle photography.

Portrait photography camera and method

When a distance measured by an AF range finding section is of a predetermined value or thereabove, even if a slide plate is moved in an interlocking relation with a releasing operation of a release button, a gear is locked by the electromagnetic actuator, whereby a diffusion plate is not moved from a position retracted from a strobe, so that an attainable distance of strobe-lights can be extended. On the other hand, when the distance measured by the AF range finding section is of less than the predetermined value, the slide plate is moved in an interlocking relation with the releasing action of the release button and the gear is rotated through a biasing force of a spring, whereby the diffusion plate is positioned in front of the strobe to cover the strobe. Accordingly, the strobe-lights can be reduced in light quantities, so that the optimal exposure can be attained.

Mechanism for driving a diffusion plate of strobe-lights

A changeover mirror is disposed behind a taking lens and is movable between a photographic position on the optical path of the taking lens so as to reflect light passing through the taking lens, on the one hand, and a viewfinder position displaced from the optical path of the taking lens, on the other hand. A conversion lens which is mounted in the camera separately from the changeover mirror, is driven to be positioned on the optical path of the taking lens while the changeover mirror is in the viewfinder position. When the changeover mirror is in the photographic position, a blind member is positioned on the optical path of the viewfinder optics. The blind member shields the photographic optical path from extraneous light that enters through the eyepiece of the viewfinder optics. When the camera is set in a manual focus mode, a split micro prism is positioned in a focal plane of the viewfinder optics. With the split micro prism in place, manual focusing is performed by operating a manual focusing ring.

Single-lens reflex camera

An instant camera is provided with a motor rotatable in normal and reverse directions, a claw member for pushing an exposed film unit out of a film pack, and a pair of spreading rollers for ejecting the exposed film unit from the camera by applying pressure thereto. The motor rotates in the normal direction upon taking a photograph, so that the spreading rollers rotate in normal directions. The force of the motor is simultaneously transmitted to the claw member via a clutch mechanism. An operable member is provided in a film pack chamber. To clean the spreading rollers, the door of the empty film pack chamber is opened. When the operable member is pressed, the motor starts rotating reversely. During the resulting reverse rotation of the spreading rollers, a cloth for wiping the spreading rollers can be applied thereto, so that processing solution or dirt sticking to the rollers can be removed. Reverse rotation of the motor is prevented by the clutch mechanism from being transmitted to the claw member.

An exposure control apparatus has a photometry unit for measuring the brightness at a plurality of divisional areas of a subject screen. A correct exposure time is calculated in accordance with signals obtained by measuring the brightness at the plurality of divisional areas with the photometry unit when a shutter blade is closed. A light-receiving aperture is formed in the shutter blade. The photometry unit or another photometry unit is disposed at the back of the shutter blade to thereby measure light from the subject screen as the shutter blade is opened. When the measured value takes a value corresponding to the exposure time, the shutter blade is closed.

Exposure control apparatus

A data recording camera capable of recording a shooting date includes a memory for storing data as to the current date, a memory for storing data as to the birth date of an individual, an operation circuit for obtaining the age of the individual based on the data as to the current date and the birth date stored in the memories, and a display member for optically displaying the obtained age which is also photographically recorded on a film.

An automatic strobe apparatus for use with a diaphragm-shutter of the type having a programmed mode of operation operates to automatically control the amount of light provided therefrom. The automatic strobe apparatus provides the maintained proportion of illumination light contributing to film exposure under conditions of the level of ambient scene illumination light intensity higher than the first level for the maximum exposure interval allowable for an exposure without incurring blurring effects from camera shake and under conditions of the level of ambient scene illumination light intensity lower than the second level for substantially no proportion of ambient scene illumination light contributing to film exposure when the maximum exposure interval is given. On the other hand, the automatic strobe apparatus provides an increased amount of artificial illumination light for the compensation of the lack of the amount of ambient scene illumination light contributing to film exposure under conditions of the level of ambient scene illumination light intensity between the first and second levels.
