A steering column cover body accommodates therein at least one of an electric junction block, a meter and at least one switch which are directly connected with each other. The switch includes at least one of a turn switch, a wiper switch, a hazard switch and an ignition switch. The meter includes a circuit board on which a first circuit for driving the meter and a second circuit for driving the at least one switch is mounted.

Steering column module

An electric connection box for connecting a plurality of sub-wire harnesses is disclosed. The electronic connection box comprises a power supply section, a plurality of sub-wire harness connection plates, a plurality of intermediate connection terminals, and a connection section. The power supply section has terminal sections. The plurality of sub-wire harness connection plates are laminated on the power supply section. Each sub-wire harness connection plate has a plurality of set grooves to put electric wires of a sub-wire harness thereinto. Each set groove of sub-wire harness connection plate has a plurality of through holes formed at a bottom thereof and spaced apart from each other in a longitudinal direction thereof. Each intermediate connection terminal is electrically connected to an electric wire of a sub-wire harness and is set in a set groove of a sub-wire harness connection plate so that a through connection conductor connection section thereof is aligned with a through hole of the set groove. The connection section has a plurality of through connection conductors. Each through connection conductor is connected to a terminal section of the power supply section after being inserted through a predetermined through hole in each of the sub-wire harness connection plates and connected to each through connection conductor connection section aligned with the predetermined through hole.

Electric connection box

A throttle control apparatus includes a throttle opening adjusting device for regulating the throttle valve opening in such a manner that the throttle valve is located in a first position for assuring sufficient opening of the throttle valve upon ignition, with the throttle valve being rotatable after establishment of ignition or combustion. The throttle valve is then moved to a second position located between the first position and a fully closed position upon an electric failure.

Throttle control apparatus

For preventing very small amplitude vibrations of the rod in a tensioner during high speed movement of a belt to be tensioned by the tensioner, a tube which is connected to a plunger which moves together with the rod is overlapped with a stationary member so as to define an annular clearance therebetween in an operating chamber of the tensioner. By filling an operating fluid in the clearance, shear strain is generated upon high speed movement of the plunger, which resists movement of the plunger.

Tensioner

A fluid coupling apparatus has a three stage control for torque transmission. The apparatus has two slots, of which one slot is opened when the temperature reaches a first set temperature. The other slot is opened at a second set temperature. The latter slot has a shape which increases the opening gradually in accordance with the movement of a valve member so that the torque transmission is gradually increased from the second torque transmission state to the third torque transmission state.

Fluid coupling apparatus

A viscous fluid coupling device especially is used for driving the cooling fan of engines and for controlling the rotation speed of the fan smoothly according to the temperature. The smooth change of torque transmission by the coupling device is performed by employing a specially shaped slot for fluid passageway. The increase rate of the opening area of the slot is smaller in a low temperature region than in a high temperature region.

Viscous fluid coupling device

A cooling system for an internal combustion engine, which includes a fan having a boss coupled to an input member, a plurality of blades projecting substantially radially from the boss and a thin cylindrical ring coaxial with the boss and integrated around the blades, and a shroud arranged around the fan with a clearance therebetween. The ring has a cylindrical portion in its intake side and is bent, with a curvature, outwardly toward its exhaust side. The relative arrangement of the fan with the ring and the shroud is such that a maximum diameter of the ring/(the diameter of the cylindrical portion of the ring+the clearance.times.2) is established in the range of 0.97 to 1.04, that the curvature/the diameter of the cylindrical portion of the ring is established in the range of 0.05 to 0.08, and that overlapping length of the shroud with the ring is established in the range of 0.17 to 0.70.

Cooling system for an internal combustion engine

A viscous fluid coupling used as a cooling fan for automobile engines, having a power output member divided into two water chambers by a partition. The refluxing of water between the two chambers are controlled by a valve which opens the first hole of the partition by being associated with a bimetal that operates by detecting the temperature of the air passing through the radiator and opens the second hole of the partition by being associated with a thermostat that operates by detecting the temperature of the water in the water pump, thereby effecting the accurate control of the rotation speed of the fan.

Viscous fluid coupling

An automotive vehicle engine having a coolant circulation system with a radiator, a fan, and a thermostatic valve for controlling coolant flow through the radiator. This thermostatic valve starts to open at a first temperature, is fully opened at a second temperature, and is partly opened at an intermediate third temperature. A system for coupling the fan to a rotation engine member includes: a first member rotationally coupled to the rotating member; a second member rotationally coupled to the fan; and a mechanism for providing rotational coupling between the first and second members. The degree of rotational coupling is lower when a first control valve is closed than opened, and is lower when a second control valve is closed than opened. The first control valve is opened when and only when the temperature of air passing the radiator is greater than a determinate temperature; and the second control valve is opened when engine coolant temperature rises from below to above a fourth temperature, while being closed when it drops from above to below a fifth temperature substantially lower than the fourth temperature. The fourth and fifth temperatures are substantially higher than the third temperature, differing therefrom respectively by first and second temperature differences, the second of which is substantially less than the first and the fifth temperature is higher than the second temperature.

Engine cooling fan coupling system controlled in concert with a cooling

A motor-driven fan including a hub adapted to be driven by a motor, a plurality of fan blades provided on the hub to extend in radial directions, a shroud including a ring-shaped portion encircling the fan blades and stay members for supporting the ring-shaped portion, each of the fan blades being formed at a tip end thereof with a deflector which is bent in a direction of rotation of the fan by a width which increases from a leading edge to a trailing edge of the blade.

Blade configuration for shrouded motor-driven fan

A viscous fluid coupling device for controlling the transmission of an outpt torque in response to the ambient temperature of the device. The coupling device includes a valve plate for successively effecting first, second and third operational modes to maintain the output torque transmission respectively at low, medium and high levels. The valve plate is provided with a slot which is arranged to effect a fourth operational mode between the second and third operational modes thereby to reliably effect the second operational mode in response to a drop in the ambient temperature of the device.

A temperature responsive coupling device for driving a cooling fan of an internal combustion engine includes a shaft rotatably mounted in an output coupling member coaxially with an input coupling member which is operatively coupled to the output coupling member by means of a coupling. A bimetal spring is operatively connected to one end of the shaft and a valve plate is connected to the opposite end of the shaft for controlling the flow of fluid within the fluid coupling. The shaft is supported in the output coupling member by means of a sealed bearing in order to decrease the sliding torque produced by the rotation of the shaft. A cover plate is positioned in front of the sealed bearing to protect the bearing from moisture and openings are operatively associated with the cover plate to allow any moisture which might have entered between the cover plate and the bearing to be expelled by centrifugal force.

Temperature responsive fluid coupling device

A viscous fluid coupling including an input member having a disc-shaped rotor, an output member rotatable with respect to the input member and having a housing encircling the rotor, a partition wall in the housing for dividing the inside of the housing into an oil chamber and a working chamber. The rotor is located in the working chamber and a labyrinth device is provided between the rotor and the housing for making it possible to transfer rotation of the rotor to the housing under a supply of viscous oil to the labyrinth device. Perforations are formed in the partition wall for establishing a communication between the oil chamber and the working chamber so that the viscous oil can be supplied from the oil chamber to the working chamber. Oil expelling passages are also provided for connecting radially outward portions of the oil and working chambers so that the viscous oil in the working chamber is expelled to the oil chamber under pumping action of the rotor when the rotor is rotated. A valve is associated with the perforations in the partition wall and, a temperature responsive element is provided for actuating the valve so that the valve is moved between an open position wherein it opens the perforations and a close position wherein it closes the perforations in accordance with a temperature condition. Oil displacing blocks are disposed in the oil chamber and normally maintained at a radially inward position but forced radially outwardly under a centrifugal force when housing is rotated.

The viscous fluid coupling is comprised of a drive shaft having a hollow casing rotatably mounted thereon with one end of the drive shaft extending into the hollow casing. The interior of the casing is divided into a reservoir chamber and an operating chamber by means of a dividing plate secured within the housing. The rotor on the end of the shaft is rotatably mounted within the operating chamber and a thermostatically responsive valve member is rotatably mounted within the reservoir chamber for controlling the flow of fluid through a first passage extending through the divider plate. A centrifugally responsive valve member is located within the divider plate for providing additional control of the fluid through the first passage from the reservoir chamber to the operating chamber. A second passage extends through the divider plate for permitting the flow of fluid from the operating chamber to the reservoir chamber in response to a pumping action generated by relative rotation between the rotor and the casing. According to one embodiment, the centrifugally responsive valve also controls the flow of fluid through the second passage so that fluid will continue to be pumped through the second passage subsequent to the closing of the first passage by the valve. In a second embodiment, a separate flexible, resilient one-way valve is provided for controlling the flow of fluid from the operating chamber to the reservoir chamber through the second passage in response to the pumping pressure created by relative rotation between the rotor and the casing.

Viscous fluid coupling having centrifugal valve means

A temperature responsive fluid coupling device which can precisely control the transmitting torque between an input coupling member driven and an output coupling member in three steps in response to changes of ambient temperature of the output coupling member. The fluid coupling device includes two labyrinth operating chambers functioning as a torque transmitting mechanism, and each operating chamber includes a fluid return opening and a pumping mechanism.
