A thrust bearing is equipped with a resin coating applied to the surface of a base material. Lattice-shaped discharge grooves are formed in the surface of the thrust bearing, and planer protrusions having a square shape or the like are formed at the adjacent positions thereof. Each corner part of each planer protrusion form a sliding surface that slides with respect to a counterpart member. Contaminants such as wear particles that have infiltrated between the counterpart member and the sliding surface fail into the discharge grooves and then are discharged outside of the sliding surface. The chamfering of each corner part to a rounded shape prevents the contaminants from accumulating in the discharge grooves, thus preventing the contaminants from biting into the planer protrusions.

Sliding member and manufacturing method therefor

A scroll compressor which can be mounted in an automobile has a slide bearing resulting from baking onto a back metal a sliding layer of 5-60 wt % graphite having an average diameter of 5-50 &#x3bc;m and a graphitization degree of at least 0.6, the remainder containing a polyimide resin and/or a polyamide-imide resin. The form of the graphite has: (a) an average shape factor (YAVE) as defined of 1-4 for the particles excluding the minute particles that are no greater than 0.5 times the average diameter, and there being at least 70% by number of particles having a shape factor (Y) in the range of 1-1.5; or (b) graphite particles having a particle ratio of at least 0.5 being at least 50% of the total by number.

Swash plate compressor

A hemispherical shoeis equipped with a sliding surfaceA which slides with a swash plate, and a hemispherical convexB. Hardening is performed by radiating a laser so that minute circlesmay be drawn on the sliding surfaceA. Then, lapping is given to the sliding surfaceA and, finally, buffing is given thereto. Thereby, the annular swelling portions' and concavities&#x2032; are formed in positions of the circlesand, further, lubricating oil passages&#x2032; which include net-like concavities are formed in the sliding surfaceA. A hardening part is formed of the above-mentioned annular swelling portions&#x2032;. The above-mentioned annular swelling portions&#x2032; are formed so that a ratio of an area of a total of all the above-described annular swelling portions&#x2032; occupying an area of the sliding surfaceA which is a hardening object domain may become 0.3 to 0.8. It is possible to provide a shoewhich is good in seizure resistance in comparison with the past.

A hemispherical shoe (sliding member)has a flat sliding surface, which is quenched to form a quenched portion. A part of the quenched sliding surface is partially annealed to form an annealed portion. When an oil film pressure acts on the sliding surface, the annealed portionis deformed by pressure so that the surface thereof has a concave portionA. In the annealed portion, a remaining quenched portionmay remain at the center part thereof. The concave portionA can be used as an oil reservoir or an oil flow path, so that an excellent seizure resistance can be ensured.

Sliding member and manufacturing method thereof

A swash plate type compressor includes a swash plate rotating around a rotating shaft, pistons that advance and retreat with the rotation of the swash plate and formed with a hemispherical concave sliding surface, and shoes formed with a flat end surface part in sliding contact with the swash plate and a spherical surface part in sliding contact with the sliding surface of the piston. A cylindrical part is formed between the spherical surface part and the end surface part of the shoe, and the shoe is formed with a flange part that surrounds the boundary portion between the cylindrical part and the end surface part and is in sliding contact with the swash plate. Further, the flange part is located on the inside of an imaginary spherical surface including the sliding surface of the piston.

Swash plate type compressor

A sliding deviceincludes a swash platerotated in association with a rotating shaftand semispherical shoessliding on the swash plate The semispherical shoesare formed of a ferrous material and the swash plateis manufactured using high-strength brass as a material. On a sliding surfaceA of the shoe, a large number of minute annular expandingly projecting parts' are formed by laser hardening and a lubricating oil passage&#x2032; consisting of a reticular concave part is also formed. Thereby, a sliding devicehaving excellent seizure resistance as compared with conventional sliding devices can be provided.

Sliding device

A sliding deviceis constituted of a swash plateincluding a first sliding surfaceA and a semispherical shoesliding with the swash plate. The swash plateis constituted of a base materialB of high strength brass containing Mn and Si, and very small granular Mn&#x2014;Si compoundsare exposed on an inside of the base materialB and on the first sliding surfaceA (surface of the base materialB). The above described swash plateincreases in exposure amount of the Mn&#x2014;Si compoundsexposed on the first sliding surfaceA by applying etching to the base materialB after cutting the base materialB. The sliding deviceis favorable in seizure resistance and has a low manufacturing cost as compared with conventional sliding devices.

A sliding member includes convex portions are formed by directly quenching a sliding surface of a sliding member in a line shape or a dot shape, and concave portions are formed in indirectly quenched portions adjacent to the directly quenched portions. An irregular surface is formed on the sliding surface by the directly quenched portions and the indirectly quenched portions. The directly quenched portions are formed in a lattice shape, a parallel straight line shape, a concentric circle shape or a spiral shape. With the irregular surface on the sliding surface by the directly quenched portions and the indirectly quenched portions, the seizure resistance can be improved.

Sliding member

A sliding surfaceA of a shoeundergoes laser radiation in a shape of a large number of parallel lines to form a large number of swollen portionsand concave portionsin adjacent positions thereof. The swollen portionsand the inner side thereof become direct-hardened portionswith a high hardness and the concave portionsand the inner side thereof become double-hardened portions, which are lower in hardness than the swollen portions After the laser hardening, the sliding surfaceA undergoes lapping up to a position of an imaginary lineto delete the relief and form a flat and smooth plane. Thereafter the sliding surfaceA undergoes buffing so that portions with a low hardness are chipped off more than portions with a high hardness to form a large number of minute irregularities on the sliding surfaceA.

Method for making a slide member

There is provided a semispherical shoe which is formed into a substantially semispherical shape by a convex semispherical surfaceand a flat end surface, the semispherical surface having a slidably contacting surfacethat is in slidable contact with a semispherical concave portion and non slidably contacting surfacesandthat are not in slidable contact with the concave portion. When the semispherical shoe is manufactured, first, after a semispherical material having a semispherical surface following the concave portion has been formed, the surface of the portion that is to be the slidably contacting surface on the semispherical surface is quenched to expand the quenched portion from the original surface of the semispherical surface, whereby the sliding surface is formed on the surface of the expanded portion, and the other portions are made the non slidably contacting portions.
