A measurement device for measuring a physical property such as temperature difference, displacement, pressure, fluid flow rate, etc. comprises: (a) an amplifying means which receives and amplifies a voltage signal corresponding to a detected physical property; (b) a reference voltage generator which generates and applies a reference voltage to the amplifying means at a predetermined time; (c) a memory which stores the output voltage signal from the amplifying means when the reference voltage generator applies the reference voltage to the amplifying means; and (d) a calculating means which outputs at least one command signal to the reference voltage generator to apply the reference voltage to the amplifying means and to the memory to store the output voltage of the amplifying means into a specified memory location thereof at the predetermined time and calculates the value of the desired physical property from the current output voltage of the amplifying means with reference to the stored voltage value in the memory, whereby an accurate physical property measurement can be made by compensating for individual differences and deterioration of the characteristics of the measurement device.

A system and method for controlling an ignition timing of an internal combustion engine. In the system, an accumulated value of a deviation or a value corelative to the accumulated value is calculated as an error amount whenever the deviation between a crank angle value at a time when pressure in a combustion chamber has reached its maximum and a target value thereof, whether the error amount exceeds a predetermined allowable limit value is determined whether the error amount is calculated, a corrective amount of ignition timing is calculated when the error amount exceeds the predetermined allowable limit value. Consequently, the correction of ignition timing can be carried out in a quick response during the ransient driving state of engine and engine drivability can be improved.

System and method for controlling ignition timing of an internal

A device and method for measuring a temperature difference at different positions which cancels offset voltages produced by a temperature sensitive element, e.g., a thermocouple used in the device and the device itself. The device comprises: (a) an amplifier for receiving and amplifying the output signal produced by the temperature sensitive element and output ting a voltage corresponding to a sensed temperature difference; (b) a comparator for determining that the output signal of the temperature sensitive element should be zero level by sensing a condition that the temperature difference between the two different positions is zero; (c) a memory for storing the value of the voltage of the amplifying means outputted when the comparator determines that the output signal of the temperature sensitive element should be at a zero level; and (d) means for subtracting the stored voltage value in the memory from the current output voltage value of the amplifier so as to obtain a modified output voltage value accurately corresponding to the current temperature difference free from offset voltage errors.

Device and method for measuring a temperature difference

A failsafe system for an engine-control servomotor compares a servomotor command signal to a feedback signal from the servomotor. When the magnitude of the difference between the two signals is greater than a predetermined value for a predetermined time, the failsafe system shuts down the servomotor or performs some other engine shut-down procedure. The failsafe system includes a comparator for comparing the two signals, the output of which leads to two other op-amp-type comparators connected in parallel, which work on negative or positive outputs of the first-mentioned comparator, respectively. Each of the later comparators receives a reference voltage input against which to compare the output of the first-mentioned comparator. Their outputs lead parallelly to time-delay circuits which check for a positive output for a predetermined length of time by a well-known capacitor-integration technique.

Failsafe for an engine control

A fuel injection means for an internal combustion engine of an automobile is disclosed which comprises a pulse length determination circuit which receives a driving condition signal and develops a signal of a pulse length corresponding to the driving condition, a fuel injection starting signal generator circuit which develops a fuel injection starting signal and a driving signal generator circuit which develops a driving signal of a pulse length corresponding to that of the signal from the pulse length determination circuit. The driving signal thus developed is sent to a fuel injection valve, thereby fuel of a reliably controlled quantity is injected with a reliably controlled timing not only during usual driving condition but also during acceleration.

Fuel injection means for an internal combustion engine of an automobile

An output signal of a vibration sensor mounted on an internal combustion engine is compared with a background noise reference signal to produce a knock signal which can accurately represent the intensity of knocking. The background noise level signal is produced by averaging a component of the vibration sensor output signal which represents the vibration of the engine other than knock-induced vibration. In order to produce a feedback signal for inhibiting the knock induced component of the sensor output signal, a first comparator compares the sensor output signal with a first reference signal having a sufficiently low level. Knock signal is produced by a second comparator which receives a second reference signal, which is proportional to the first reference signal but having sufficiently higher level, thereby enabling a precise determination of knock intensity.

Apparatus for generating a knock signal for use with an internal

A first circuit is provided for producing an output which changes at a certain rate by an amount corresponding to a predetermined crank angle in the direction of retarding a spark timing each time a knocking determination signal, representing that knocking occurs, is inputted thereto with a frequency higher than a predetermined frequency and an amplitude larger than a predetermined amplitude. The output from the first circuit further changes at a smaller rate than said certain rate in the direction of advancing the spark timing in the absence of the knocking determination signal. A second circuit is provided for outputting a waveform which is reset each time a spark command signal is inputted thereto and which thereafter changes to a predetermined level at a rate depending upon the rotational speed of the engine. A third circuit is provided for comparing the outputs of the first and second circuits to output a pulse signal of a duration depending upon the level of the output of the first circuit. A fourth circuit means is provided for retarding the spark timing by an amount corresponding to the duration of the pulse signal.

Spark timing control device for an internal combustion engine

The calculation of an adjustment value, which is determined by the concentration of oxygen in the exhaust gas, the opening of a throttle valve provided in an intake air passage to the engine, the engine temperature, etc., is started every time a predetermined number of repeatedly produced start signals, the repetition rate of which corresponds to the rotational speed of the crankshaft, occur. A basic value for fuel supply, T.sub.p =k Q/N, is calculated from the engine operating parameters; the amount of flow of intake air into the engine, Q the rotational speed of the crankshaft, N, and a constant k, and adjusted according to the adjustment value to obtain a control output signal, in the vicinity of the next start signal after said predetermined number.

Method of controlling fuel supply to internal combustion engine

Disclosed is an air/fuel control system for an internal combustion engine which selectively carries out open loop control and feedback control in which the air/fuel ratio is controlled based on the sensed concentration of an exhaust gas component. The system has a means for generating a variable reference signal corresponding to an exhaust gas sensor output and a means for measuring a period after the air-fuel mixture becomes rich and for generating a signal for switching control operation from feedback control to open loop control. The latter means clears the measured period responsive to interrupting feedback control after the expiration of a given period. This effectively prevents control operation from switching too frequently between feedback control and open loop control.

Air/fuel ratio control system for an internal combustion engine

An engine controlling device includes an operating circuit (3) supplied with output signal of a knocking sensor (1) to generate a control signal which is used to effect an optimum control of at least one of ignition timing, exhaust gas recirculation flow rate, fuel injection quantity and fuel injection timing, to optimize combustion state of the engine. The device is further provided with an acceleration detector (5) whose output signal is supplied to the operating circuit (3) to generate a forced control signal during the accelerating condition of the engine regardless of the control signal derived from the knocking sensor (1). The forced control signal is used to control at least one of the above-mentioned control variables, and eliminates adverse influence of delay time in the control device to enable optimization of the combustion state even during a sudden acceleration.

Disclosed herewith an air/fuel ratio control device for and internal combustion engine which is capable of carrying out either feedback control or open loop control. In feedback control, a signal indicating the concentration of exhaust gas components is generated and fed to a fuel supply control device. In open loop control, a fuel injection rate is determined corresponding to intake air flow rate. For switching between feedback control and open loop control, the air/fuel ratio control device is provided with a means for detecting an abnormal condition of signal, and a means operative in response to the abnormal signal to interrupt feedback control. The air/fuel ratio control device is further provided with a means for detecting stopping of the abnormal signal and for returning control operation to feedback control.

Air/fuel ratio control device for an internal combustion engine

A control system is disclosed which includes a digital microcomputer adapted to perform routines for controlling various operating parameters for an internal combustion engine. The system includes at least one switch adapted to detect a specified engine operating condition. Means are provided for causing the microcomputer to perform a routine required for the specified engine operating condition when the time of continuous occurrence of the specified condition exceeds a predetermined value.

According to the method, a plurality of sensor signals are generated related to vehicle operating parameters. Interruption signals are produced in response to certain sensor signals and cause execution of a main control program to be interrupted. Data related to the main control program are transferred to an auxiliary memory. An interruption processing program is executed in a non-interruptible state to determine the source of the interruption signal, after which an interruption program related to the received interruption signal is executed. The interruption program is interrupted in response to each additional interruption signal and data related to the interrupted interruption program is stored in an auxiliary memory. The interruption processing program is then re-executed and a FLAG is stored identifying the interruption program related to each additional interruption signal. Execution of the interruption program related to the first interruption signal is then continued and followed by execution of interruption programs related to the additional interruption signals in an order determined by the stored FLAGs.

Method for program control of components of an automotive vehicle

A control device for an internal combustion engine comprising a knocking detecting means and an operating and controlling means which generates a feedback control signal in response to a knocking detection signal from the knocking detecting means and which feedback controls ignition timing, etc. so as to maintain the firing condition of the engine in optimum condition. The control device further comprises an acceleration detector, the output signal of which controls the knocking detecting means or the operating and controlling means in such a manner that said feedback control signal is amplified to a greater extent in the accelerating condition than in the normal condition, as a result of which the ignition timing, etc. is feedback controlled more quickly in the accelerating condition than in the normal condition, so that the firing condition is maintained in optimum condition even in the accelerating condition.

Control device for an internal combustion engine

A control device for an internal combustion engine is disclosed in which an ignition timing, etc. is feedback-controlled according to the detected knocking state. An output signal of a knocking sensor is half-wave rectified by a signal treating section and smoothed by a smoothing section to obtain a first reference signal. The rectified signal and the smoothed signal thereof are then compared by a first comparator section and the difference signal thus obtained is integrated by an integrator section to obtain a signal substantially depending on the strength of the knocking. The first reference signal is also applied to a function generator which generates a second reference signal as a function of the first reference signal and also corresponds to the components caused by the factors other than the knocking. Finally the integrated signal and the second reference signal are compared by a second comparator section to produce a correct knocking detection signal.
