A solid state image sensor includes an area sensor section having photoelectric conversion pixels arranged in the form of a matrix, a pixel selection section for selecting a pixel of the area sensor section and reading out a video signal, an analog signal processor section for performing signal processing for the video signal, an analog-digital conversion section for converting the processed signal into a digital signal, a digital signal processor section for performing signal processing to convert the digital signal into a digital signal having a predetermined signal format, and an interface section which operates in accordance with an external command, and has the function of selecting a video signal obtained by digitizing a pixel or a signal obtained by performing processing for the luminance and color difference signals of the video signal. These sections are mounted on a single chip.

Solid state image sensor and video system using the same

A control system realizes a playback function by playing back stream data read out from a medium by using a decoder. When special playback functions corresponding to pause, fast forward, and rewind are to be performed, the control system moves a read start pointer to the head of a data block constructing a data format, and sets as a restart position of a playback operation.

Digital recording/playback apparatus

A solid state image sensor controlled by a command signal. An area sensor has pixels arranged two-dimensionally. An interface is configured to receive the command signal. A selector is configured to select one of a plurality of readout schemes of reading out a pixel signal from the area sensor in accordance with the received command signal. A scanner is configured to scan the area sensor in accordance with the selected scheme selected, to read out the pixel signal from the area sensor. Processors subject the pixel signal to signal processing and output a digital video signal having a predetermined signal format. A motion vector detector is configured to detect a motion vector of an image based on the digital video signal and to output motion vector data to the interface. The area sensor, selector, scanner, processors, motion vector detector, and interface are mounted on a single chip.

To transfer an image signal from a electronic camera head to a personal computer, a PC card provides the interface between the camera head and the personal computer. The PC card is removably attached to the personal computer. As instructed by the personal computer, the PC card operates the camera head, sets its states, writes image data into a memory, reads the image data from the memory for transmission to the personal computer, generates control signals for a light refracting member, and informs the personal computer of the state of the camera head.

Image input apparatus for capturing images of multiple resolutions

An electronic still camera comprises a solid state image sensor for outputting a color picture signal corresponding an incident optical image, a signal processor for signal-processing the color picture signal from the solid state image sensor to produce a color still picture signal, a recorder for recording the color still picture signal produced by the signal processor, and a driver for moving at least one of the optical image and the solid state image sensor from an original position in a horizontal direction by a pixel pitch and in an oblique axial direction defined by horizontal and vertical lines extending respectively from the original position in the horizontal and vertical directions by half the pixel pitch.

Electronic still camera with improved picture resolution by image

An electronic still camera includes an imaging device, a signal conversion device and a recording device. The imaging device includes a solid state imaging unit and optical color filters of different spectral characteristics arranged on the solid state imaging unit to convert photoelectrically converting the photographed image. The signal conversion device converts a signal from the imaging device into a luminance signal and two color difference signals. The recording device stores image information including the luminance signal and two color difference signals into a semiconductor memory card.

Electronic still camera with various modes of data compression

An electronic still camera has a memory card, which is detachably provided, for recording photographed image data. The electronic still camera comprises a data compression unit for compressing image data to be recorded, a mode selection unit provided in association with the data compression unit to select a recording mode or compression mode, a buffer memory for once storing the image data compressed in the compression mode selected by the mode selection unit, and a determination unit for determining whether or not the image data stored in the buffer memory can be recorded on the recording medium. In the electronic still camera, when the image data was determined to be unrecordable by the determination unit, the image data stored in the memory is stored in the buffer memory till the recording medias assumes a recordable state.
