A backup power supply system () includes a first terminal (T), a second terminal (T), a disconnect device (), a current detector (), a charge/discharge device (), an auxiliary power supply (), and a controller (). The disconnect device () is connected between the first terminal (T) configured to be connected to a main power supply () and the second terminal (T) configured to be connected to a load (). The charge/discharge device () is connected between the auxiliary power supply () and a node (P) between the disconnect device () and the second terminal (T). The charge/discharge device () is configured to receive power supplied from main power supply () to cause a charging current to flow to the auxiliary power supply () in a non-defective state in which the main power supply () is not defective. The charge/discharge device () is configured to receive power supplied from the auxiliary power supply () to cause a discharging current to flow to the load () in a defective state. The controller () is configured to have the disconnect device () be in a connecting state while the current detector () does not detect the discharging current, and to have the disconnect device () be in a disconnecting state while the current detector () detects the discharging current.

A backup power supply system is designed to supply, when a power supply has caused a failure, power from a first electrical storage device to a plurality of loads. The plurality of loads includes a first load and a second load. The first load is connected to a first power supply line. The backup power supply system includes a backflow prevention switch provided between the first load and the second load on the first power supply line and making the first power supply line electrically conductive or non-conductive by turning ON and OFF. The backflow prevention switch includes an internal diode having an anode connected to one side including the first load and a cathode connected to the other side including the second load.

A backup power supply control system includes: a first semiconductor switch that switches a main power supply line to an electrically conductive state or an electrically non-conductive state; and an auxiliary power supply switch that switches an auxiliary power supply line to the electrically conductive state or the electrically non-conductive state. A first driving unit controls, in a non-failure state, a second semiconductor switch, connected between a gate and source of a first semiconductor switch, OFF and thereby controls the first semiconductor switch ON. The first driving unit ensures, in the failure state, at least a gate-plateau voltage of the first semiconductor switch as a drive voltage for the second semiconductor switch. When a failure detection unit detects the failure state, the first driving unit controls the first semiconductor switch OFF by controlling the second semiconductor switch ON and a second driving unit controls the auxiliary power supply switch ON.

The power supply unit has a sample-and-hold circuit that samples a voltage supplied from a power source to a load according to a sample timing signal and holds the voltage as an output set value for the DC/DC converter. The unit supplies a load with an output from the DC/DC converter controlled so that an output voltage of a power source becomes an output set value of the DC/DC converter when the voltage of the power source drops. Since a voltage corresponding to the voltage of the power source before the voltage drop is set to the output set value of the DC/DC converter, a stable power supply unit is obtained in which the difference is always small between the voltage of the power source in normal times and the output voltage from the DC/DC converter when the voltage of the power source temporarily fluctuates.

Power supply unit

A variable gain amplifier includes first and second power supply terminals arranged to be connected to a power supply, a transconductance amplifier, first and second PN junction elements, a voltage drop element, first and second resistors, a current-generating transistor, and a current mirror. The transconductance amplifier outputs a current corresponding to a difference between a potential of a base of the first initial stage transistor and a potential of a base of the second initial stage transistor. An emitter of the second initial stage transistor is connected to the emitter of the first initial stage transistor at a node. Each of the first and second PN junction elements has a first end connected to the base of the first initial stage transistor and a second end. The voltage drop element is connected between the second end of the first PN junction element and the first power supply terminal. The first resistor is connected between the base of the second initial stage transistor and a first signal source which is a voltage source. The current-generating transistor has a collector connected to the base of the first initial stage transistor and a base connected to the first signal source. The second resistor is connected between the emitter of the current-generating transistor and the second power supply terminal. The current mirror is connected to the node, and allows a current to flow to the node, the current being identical to a current flowing from the second signal source which is a current source. This variable gain amplifier generates no non-linear distortion, and has a small size.
