A variable displacement compressor including a drive shaft through which a gas passage extends between front and rear ends of the drive shaft. The gas passage is connected to a suction chamber at the rear end of the drive shaft. The drive shaft includes a first gas inlet passage, which connects the gas passage to a crank chamber through a lip seal, an oil chamber, and a thrust bearing, and a second gas inlet passage, which connects the gas passage to a central portion of the crank chamber. The drive shaft further includes a sleeve movable along the drive shaft as a swash plate inclines to adjust an open amount of the second gas inlet passage in accordance with the inclination angle of the swash plate, that is, the displacement of the compressor.

Variable displacement compressor

Compressor are taught that may include a suction port to draw refrigerant and a discharge port to discharge compressed refrigerant. A driving shaft is disposed within a compressor driving chamber. A swash plate is inclinably and slidably coupled to the driving shaft. The swash plate rotates together with the driving shaft at an inclination angle with respect to a plane perpendicular to the rotational axis of the driving shaft. A cylinder bore is disposed adjacent to the compressor driving chamber. A piston is disposed within the cylinder bore and an end portion of the piston is connected to a peripheral edge of the swash plate by a shoe. Preferably, the piston reciprocates within the cylinder bore to compress the refrigerant in response to rotation of the inclined swash plate. A rotor is connected to the driving shaft. A hinge mechanism connects the swash plate with the rotor and transmits torque from the driving shaft to the swash plate regardless of the inclination angle of the swash plate. The hinge mechanism includes a projection disposed on one of the rotor or the swash plate and at least one arm disposed on the other of the rotor or the swash plate. The projection has a recessed structure and at least one arm is coupled to the projection to transmit torque from the driving shaft.

Compressors

A housing (11, 12, 13) accommodates a compressive mechanism. A drive shaft (15) is supported by the housing (11, 12, 13) and is connected with the compressive mechanism. A boss portion (16) is arranged along an outer wall of the housing (11, 12, 13) such that the boss portion (16) encompasses a portion of the drive shaft (15) projecting from the housing (11, 12, 13). A rotational body (18) is connected with the drive shaft (15) for transmitting drive force from an exterior drive source to the drive shaft (15). A seal (17) is arranged in the interior of the housing (11, 12, 13) for sealing at a location between the inner side of the housing (11, 12, 13) and the drive shaft (15). A collector (35, 36, 38) collects oil leaking from the seal (17). A stepped portion (40) is formed on an outer surface of a rotary portion (15, 21.alpha.) at a position between the seal (17) and an opening (16.alpha.) of the boss portion (16) within the interior of the housing (11, 12, 13). The stepped portion (40) is opposed to the collector (35, 36, 38).

Structure for collecting leaking oil in compressor

A refrigerating system for air-conditioning an air-conditioned area, and incorporating therein a variable capacity refrigerant compressor in which the delivery amount of the compressed refrigerant is varied by changing the stroke of the reciprocating pistons which are operatively connected to a swash plate mechanism by changing its angle of inclination in response to a change in the pressure in a crank chamber, a condenser for condensing the compressed gas-phase refrigerant from the compressor, a pressure reducing unit for reducing the pressure of the liquid-phase refrigerant, an evaporator for vaporizing the liquid-phase refrigerant by removing heat from the air, around the evaporator, which cools the air-conditioned area, and a refrigerant supply conduit supplying the crank chamber of the compressor with a part of the liquid-phase refrigerant flowing in a portion of the refrigerant conduit extending from the condenser to the evaporator so that during the minimum capacity operation of the compressor, the compressor is cooled and lubricated by the supplied refrigerant. A flow regulating unit for adjustably regulating the flow of the liquid-phase refrigerant flowing through the refrigerant supply conduit is also arranged.

Refrigerating system incorporating therein a variable capacity

A multiple-cylinder piston type compressor is disclosed. The compressor has a cylinder head fastened to the rear end of a cylinder block assembly of the compressor with a valve plate interposed therebetween and having formed therein a suction chamber formed in a radially outer peripheral region thereof so as to surround a central discharge chamber. The compressor further includes a refrigerant gas intake passage extending along a straight line and radially through the axial center of the compressor and having at least two holes for providing direct communication between the gas intake passage and the suction chamber at positions that are radially spaced. The refrigerant gas intake passage may include a combination of at least two passage portions having different cross-sectional areas.

Multiple-cylinder piston type refrigerant compressor

A variable-capacity swash plate type compressor including a tiltable swash plate and a rotor supported by a drive shaft and connected to the swash plate by a hinge mechanism for controlling the tilting angle of the swash plate to change the capacity of the compressor. The hinge mechanism includes a pair of support arms extending from the rotor on either side of the top dead center position of the swash plate having holes, and a pair of guide pins extending from the swash plate and having balls fitted in the holes of the support arms. The holes are circular holes having different diameters. Alternatively, the holes are a circular hole and an oblong hole having a long width in the rotating direction.

Tiltable swash plate type compressor

An axial multi-piston compressor includes a drive shaft, a cylinder block having cylinder bores formed therein and surrounding the drive shaft, and a plurality of pistons slidably received in the respective cylinder bores, wherein the pistons are successively reciprocated in the cylinder bores by a rotation of the drive shaft so that a suction stroke and a discharge stroke are alternately executed in each of the cylinder bores. During the suction stroke, a fluid is introduced into the cylinder bore, and during the compression stroke, the introduced fluid is compressed and discharged from the cylinder bore such that a residual part of the compressed fluid is inevitably left in the cylinder bore when the compression stroke is finished. The compressor further includes a rotary valve for allowing the residual part of the compressed fluid to escape from the cylinder bore into another cylinder bore after the suction stroke is executed in the former cylinder bore over a given short period of time.

A swash plate type variable displacement compressor comprises cylinder bores, pistons, a suction chamber and a discharge chamber. A suction valve introduces a low pressure gas into a working chamber in each cylinder bore. A discharge valve introduces a high pressure gas in the working chamber into the discharge chamber during a compression stroke. A crank chamber communicates to each of the cylinder bores at rear sides of the pistons. A swash plate is tiltably supported on a drive shaft and connected to each of the pistons through associated rods. The swash plate makes the pistons reciprocate in response to its undulating swing motion and varies its inclination angle based upon pressure differential between pressure in the suction chamber and pressure in the crank chamber therefore adjusting discharge displacement. A gas supply passage communicates each cylinder bore to the crank chamber in order to supply gas having a lower pressure than that in the working chamber at the time of completing the compression stroke. A gas bleed passage communicates the crank chamber to the suction chamber in order to introduce gas in the crank chamber into the suction chamber. A pressure control valve is provided in the gas supply passage or the gas bleed passage to control pressure of gas in the crank chamber. A valve is provided for opening and closing the gas supply passage in the middle of the compression stroke of each of the pistons.

A reciprocating-piston-type refrigerant compressor provided with a cylinder block having formed therein a plurality of cylinder bores in which a plurality of pistons are reciprocated to effect suction, compression and discharge of refrigerant gas in response to rotation of a drive shaft, a rotary valve element connected to the drive shaft to be rotated together with the drive shaft within a recessed chamber formed in the cylinder block, the valve element having a suction passageway for sequentially introducing the refrigerant gas before compression of the plurality of cylinder bores during the rotation of the rotary valve element, gas receiving grooves formed in the inner wall of the recessed chamber for receiving a part of the compressed refrigerant gas leaking from respective cylinder bores in the phase of the compressing and discharging operations into a contacting area between the inner wall of the recessed chamber and the rotary valve element, and a gas routing passageway formed in the rotary valve element so as to route the compressed refrigerant gas received by the gas receiving grooves into respective cylinder bores in the phase of the initial stage of the compressing operation.

An improved wobble plate type variable displacement compressor compressing the refrigerant gas with pistons and discharges the gas from a discharge chamber is disclosed. The piston stroke is adjusted according to the tilt angle of the wobble plate which is varied by the magnitude of the inner pressure of the crank case. The first passage connects a suction chamber to the crank case for transferring the pressure of the crank case to the suction chamber. The second passage connects the crank case to the discharge chamber for transferring the pressure of the discharge chamber to the crank case via a restriction when the difference between the pressures and within the discharge chamber and the crank case is in excess of the predetermined value.
