Brake pad backing plates are provided with protrusions at either end and a stationary member straddling the disc is provided with two sets of guide surfaces for supporting the backing plates. When the pads wear excessively, the backing plates shift toward the disc and fall into the lower set of guide surfaces to generate a warning sound either electrically or mechanically.

Disc brake pad wear warning device

A spring member is biased toward the outer peripheral edge of a vented disk and is held out of engagement therewith by a locking device. As the brake pads wear, the pad backing plates come closer together, thus compressing the locking device and releasing the spring so that it may engage the ribs in the outer periphery of the disk. The spring member is shaped to prevent excessive protrusion into the apertures in the disk and to permit reverse rotation of the disk.

Wear alarm device for a ventilated disk brake

For mounting a pin on a supporting member, an axial bore is formed at one end of the pin having a stopper edge, while the supporting member has a throughhole through which the pin is inserted. A radial throughhole is formed in the pin at a position spaced from the stopper edge by a distance slightly greater than the thickness of the supporting member, the radial throughhole having an inner end open to the axial bore. A hairpin-like latch spring has two bifurcated legs which are inserted into the axial bore. One of the legs has a free end portion bent so as to be able to extend through the radial throughhole and project for a predetermined length when the spring legs have been fully inserted into the axial bore. The pin is mounted on the supporting member axially immovably through cooperation of the stopper edge and the projecting free end portion of the spring leg.

Apparatus for mounting elongated rod-like member

A disc cover for disc brakes on a two-wheeled vehicle having a series of fan elements attached to a wheel attaching axis and adapted to be nested in a stored configuration or overlapping and covering the disc when deployed. The elements are attached to each other when deployed and are all locked together when nested by an attaching pin. Each element is in the shape of a U or L such that the outer surface projects over the disc surface but the inwardly turned portion extends only part way about the disc.

A disc brake pad assembly includes a wire mesh screen 6 between the friction pad backing plate 3 and a shim 5 to reduce squeal when the brake piston 10 applies pressure to the backing plate to urge the friction pad 2 against the disc 1. The squeal suppression may be enhanced by applying a lubricant to the wire mesh screen.

A latch spring assembly for brake pad guide pins received in a disc brake caliper, such as the floating type as commonly utilized in automobile brake systems, wherein an opposed pair of disc brake pad members, which support friction pads in turn for engagement of opposite peripheral sides of a brake disc for braking, are retained between opposed caliper body walls on a pair of spaced guide pins which pass transversely through the pad members. The guide pins are latched in position for retention by a latch spring having outwardly extending legs with the ends thereof respectively received in or through the guide pins. A spring retention opening is provided through one of the opposed caliper body walls and the latch spring is provided with a central hook which extends through and hooks this retention opening under spring tension. In addition, a portion of each of the two spring legs engages the caliper body under tension relative to the central hook of the spring in order to retain the spring ends stationary with respect to the axial direction of movement of the guide pins which are received in the caliper body. The guide pins are thus prevented from falling out and are held stationary with respect to their axial direction of displacement by the free end of the spring legs, at least within the limits of flexural elasticity of the spring legs. This latch spring assembly permits one or both of the pins to be provided without the conventional pin head at one end of the guide pin, and places it remote from moving and wearing brake parts.

A disc brake pad having an integral backing plate on its rear surface is provided with a removable wear indicator. An insertion hole for the indicator extends through the backing plate and into the pad for a distance equal to the length of the wear indicator. To prevent the wear indicator from being forced backward out of the hole during operation of the brake, a thin plate is placed over the backing plate and firmly clamped thereto, thereby blocking rearward movement of the indicator.
