The present invention provides synthetic hair comprising fiber of 30 to 100 decitex, comprising an acrylic copolymer obtained by copolymerizing acrylonitrile, vinylidene chloride and a vinyl monomer containing a sulfonic acid group and a process for preparing the synthetic hair. The synthetic hair of the present invention has favorable surface gloss and excellent knot strength and hair breaking in the sewing machine steps when preparing the weft and in implanting hair to skin when preparing wigs and toupees is improved. The fiber which becomes the synthetic fiber is prepared by preparing a spinning solution containing, in a polymer solution of an acrylic polymer comprising 40 to 74% by weight of acrylonitrile, 25 to 59% by weight of vinylidene chloride and 1 to 5% by weight of a vinyl monomer containing a sulfonic acid group copolymerizable therewith and a good solvent, 5 to 20 parts by weight of water based on 100 parts by weight of the polymer, forming fiber by wet spinning, conducting drawing treatment so that the total drawing ratio becomes 2.5 to 12 times and conducting relaxing treatment so that the total relaxation ratio becomes at least 15%. By this method, synthetic hair is obtained, in which the gloss contrast is at least 0.88, the knot strength is at least 0.5 cN/decitex and the average fineness of the filament is 30 to 100 decitex.

Artificial hair and method for production thereof

A doll's hair comprising synthetic fibers to which a water repellent is applied, said fiber having such a water repellency that when a liquid droplet of 20% by weight aqueous isopropyl alcohol solution is placed on the bundle of said fibers, the droplet is kept as it is for not less than one minute on the bundle. Since the doll's hair comprises the fibers having the excellent water repellency, even if a child plays at a doll in a bathroom, for instance, she dips the doll in water, and combs or shampoos the hair, water can be easily removed from the hair, and the original hairstyle can be quickly restored.

Doll's hair

A doll having hair comprising synthetic fiber consisting essentially of an acrylonitrile polymer comprising 30 to 80% by weight of an acrylonitrile and 70 to 20% by weight of at least one of a vinyl chloride and a vinylidene chloride. The fiber hair of the invention have the excellent flame resistance, the natural touch, the natural and quiet luster, the excellent curl retention and the excellent bulkiness.

Fiber for doll's hair

Compounds having the formula ##EQU1## wherein R is alkyl group having 6 to 22 carbon atoms, M is H, Li, Na, K or NH.sub.4 and n is an integer of 2 to 4, inclusive. The compound is useful as polymerizable emulsifying agent, and enables to improve properties of produced polymer and to provide a modacrylic fiber superior in heat stability and fastness to light. The aqueous emulsion polymerization of .alpha.,.beta.-ethylenically unsaturated monomer by the use of the polymerizable anionic emulsifying agent is capable of preventing a discharge of an environmental pollutant.
